ABSTRACT

As one of the key rate limiting enzymes in glycolysis process, the characteristics of pyruvate kinase (PK) play an important role in regulating the muscle quality. Given the close relationship between kinase phosphorylation level and its stability, the present study investigated the impact of exogenous l-histidine (l-his) on PK phosphorylation and activity at 1% NaCl level in the early postmortem. An incubation system was also constructed and the results showed that the introduction of 0.06% l-his caused the dephosphorylation and increased the activity of PK at 1% NaCl. Compared with 1% NaCl treatment, three differential phosphorylation sites were produced when l-his was introduced. The PK secondary structure was shift from order to disorder, leading to a distinct degradation. This present study provided us with inspiration that meat quality could be improved by exogenous l-his at early postmortem under low NaCl conditions.

ABSTRACT

The strict tolerance space of three-dimensional (3D) crystalline structures is still a significant challenge in the area of switching dielectrics in comparison with lower-dimensional structures. Generally, the function of crystalline materials can be given or adjusted by controlling the environment in which synthesis takes place or the packing rearrangement. Using this method, special functional enhancements or changes in the dielectrics can be realized by improving the synthetic strategies. Here, a 3D switchable dielectric compound [MeHdabco]K(BF4)3 was achieved by employing the temperature selective effect. In particular, its structure is completely different from the usual 3D perovskite structure, which is constructed using two different cation-template frameworks. Moreover, the 3D [MeHdabco]K(BF4)3 shows a structural phase transition at 358 K. The thermal analysis (differential scanning calorimetry (DSC)) and X-ray diffractometry results provided evidence of these phase changes. This work provides a feasible strategy that can be used to achieve the different structures of an 'isomer', and enrich the method used for designing diverse functional materials.

ABSTRACT

To study the absorption kinetics of paeoniflorin lipid liquid crystalline nanoparticles (Pae-LLCN) in different intestinal segments of rats and compare them with paeoniflorin(Pae) solution. Rat everted gut sac models were adopted for intestinal absorption test, and Pae content was determined by HPLC method to study the absorption characteristics of Pae-LLCN in rat duodenum, jejunum, ileum and colon, and investigate the effects of different drug concentrations on intestinal absorption. Results showed that Pae-LLCN and Pae were well absorbed at different intestine segments and different concentrations. The absorption constant Ka was increased with the increasing of the drug concentration, indicating possible passive absorption. The accumulative absorption volume Q and absorption constant Ka of Pae-LLCN were higher than those of Pae at each intestinal segment(P<0.05). The results revealed that Pae-LLCN and Pae could be well absorbed in whole intestinal segments and its mechanism may be passive absorption. LLCN can effectively improve the intestinal absorption of Pae.

ABSTRACT

OBJECTIVE: To investigate the effect of Shuganlipi decoction on Th1/Th2 cytokines, liver function and HBV replication in patients with chronic hepatitis B (CHB). METHODS: Eighty-six confirmed CHB cases were randomly divided into control group (n=42) and experimental group (n=44) for treatment with routine western medication and additional treatment with Shuganlipi decoction, respectively. The production of IFN-γ, IL-2, IL-6, IL-10 and liver function, HBV DNA, and HBeAg were detected in all the patients. RESULTS: The total response rate to the treatment was significantly higher in the experimental group than in the control group (78.13% vs 57.14%, P<0.01). ALT, AST, TBIL and ALB were all improved obviously in the two groups after the treatments (P<0.01). In terms of ALT and ALB, the experimental group showed more obvious improvement than the control group(P<0.05). The treatments also resulted in significant increases of IFN-γ and IL-2 levels and reductions of IL-6 and IL-10 levels in the two groups (P<0.01). CONCLUSION: Shuganlipi decoction can improve the liver function and activity of Th1/Th2 cytokines to promote the clearance of liver cell HBV infection.

ABSTRACT

AIM OF THIS STUDY: Qiwei Baizhu Powder (QWBZP) is a traditional herbal prescription that has been used traditionally for the treatment of infantile diarrhea, including the infantile diarrhea caused by Human Rotavirus (HRV). In this study, we investigated the pharmacological activity of QWBZP extract. MATERIALS AND METHODS: NIH suckling mice with HRV induced diarrhea were used. Density of CD3(+), CD4(+) and CD8(+) T cells, mRNA expression of IL-2, IFN-gamma, IL-4 and IL-10 in intestinal mucosa epithelial cells were assayed. RESULTS: QWBZP extract promoted the expressions of mRNA of IL-2, IL-4, IL-10 and IFN-gamma in intestinal mucosa epithelial cells. Also, we found that the density of CD8(+) cells in intestinal mucosa epithelial cells was significantly lower in QWBZP group than in Model group, while the density of CD8(+) cells was significantly higher in QWBZP group than in Model group. CONCLUSION: These data suggest that QWBZP extract may exhibit antiviral effects through modulating the densities of T-cell subsets and the expressions of their cytokines in small intestinal mucosa epithelial cells.
