ABSTRACT

This study provides the first attempt to identify people at greater risk of COVID-19 infection, enabling more targeted infectious disease prevention and control, which are especially important in the ongoing shortage of COVID-19 testing. We conducted a primary survey of 521 adults on April 1-10, 2020 in Iran, where the official infection rate was 0{middle dot}08%. In our sample, 3% reported being COVID-19 positive and 15% were unsure of their status. This relatively high positive rate enabled us to conduct the analysis at the 5% significance level. At the time of the survey, 44% of the adults worked from home; 26% still went to work in their workplaces; 27% had stopped working due to the COVID-19 pandemic; and 3% were unemployed. Adults who exercised more were more likely to be COVID-19 negative. Each additional hour of exercise per day predicted a 78% increase in the likelihood of being COVID-19 negative. Adults with chronic medical illnesses were 48% more likely to be COVID-19 negative. In terms of work situation, those who worked from home were the most likely to be COVID-19 negative, and those who had stopped working were the most likely to be COVID-19 positive. Individuals in larger organizations were less likely to be COVID-19 positive. Given the testing shortage in many countries, we identify a novel approach to predict the likelihood of COVID-19 infection by a set of personal and work situation characteristics, in order to help to identify individuals with more or less risk of contracting the virus. We hope this research opens a new research avenue to identify the individual risk factors of COVID-19 infection to enable more targeted infectious disease prevention, communication, testing, and control to complement the effort to expand testing capacity.

ABSTRACT

Objective To explore the effects of combined with treating winter disease in summer and acupoint application in obstructive lung disease patients with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease. Methods Based on normal treatment and community nursing, 184 patients with obstructive lung disease were treated with the therapy of combined with treating winter disease in summer and acupoint application. The associated symptoms and lung function index of patients were compared before and after 3 years.Result After 3 years' intervention, the patients' incidence of associated symptoms was less than before and lung function index was better than before with differences is statistical significance(P<0.05).Conclusion Treating winter disease in summer and acupoint application therapy for obstructive lung disease patients reducs the incidence of adverse reactiones of the therapy and improve lung fuction and quality of life.

ABSTRACT

Objective To investigate the curative effect and the clinical value of double intervention in treating recurrent cancer on the stump of stomach after radical operation of gastric antrum. Methods 11 patients with recurrent cancer and stricture on the stump of stomach were treated with stent implantation and celiac arterial chemotherapy. 2 patients with ascites were treated with intravenous chemotherapy at first ,3 patients with hepatometastatic carcinorma were treated by embolization with lipiodol. All patients were retreated with celiac chemotherapy according to their healthy state after three or four weeks. All patients were fllowed-up.Results After therapy 6 months,12 months and 18 months survival rate were 63 6%,45% and 18% respectively, average survive 12 months. Conclusions Celiac arterial chemotherapy and stent implantation can prolong the survival period of the patients with recurrent cancer on the stump of stomach after radical operation for carcinoma of gastric antrum and improve their living quality.

ABSTRACT

Objective To evaluate the clinical applied value of serum vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) in therapeutic process of patients with malignant tumor. Methods Serum VEGF levels and positive rates were measured by ELISA in 337 untreated cancer patients, 25 postoperative and 22 recurring postoperative patients with malignant tumor, while 47 benign tumor and 61 healthy individuals as controls. Results Serum VEGF levels and positive rates were significantly higher in patients with various malignant tumors than in benign tumors and healthy controls (P 0.05). Conclusions It was helpful to get a message of pathogenetic condition of malignant tumor patients whose serum VEGF was dynamically monitored.
