ABSTRACT

Intratumoral similarities and differences between large-cell neuroendocrine carcinomas (LCNECs) and small-cell lung carcinomas (SCLCs) are determined partially by the Notch signaling pathway, which controls the switch from neuroendocrine to slight/non-neuroendocrine cell fate. LCNECs are divided into two subgroups according to genomic alterations: type I LCNECs exhibit a neuroendocrine profile characterized by achaete-scute homolog 1 (ASCL1)high/delta-like protein 3 (DLL3)high/NOTCHlow and type II LCNECs show the pattern ASCL1low/DLL3low/NOTCHhigh. Here, we used immunohistochemistry, transmission electron microscopy, and digital analysis to examine the role of the Notch ligand DLL3 as an immunomarker of the neuroendocrine state and ASCL1 as a regulator of cell-cell interactions in SCLCs and LCNECs. High DLL3 and ASCL1 expression was associated with atypical submicroscopic characteristics involving nuclear size, chromatin arrangement, Golgi apparatus, and endoplasmic reticulum, and was characteristic of type I LCNECs with similarity to SCLCs, whereas low DLL3 and ASCL1 expression was found in both SCLCs and type II LCNECs. In patients diagnosed at an early stage who did not have metastasis and who underwent chemotherapy, DLL3high and ASCL1high SCLCs and type I LCNECs were associated with a better prognosis and a lower risk of death. The present findings suggested that DLL3/ASCL1 are potential therapeutic targets and prognostic indicators in patients with SCLCs or LCNECs.

Neste estudo foi caracterizado o perfil do consumidor do município de Janaúba-MG, em relação ao consumo de ovos de poedeiras comerciais e carne de frango. Foram aplicados 155 questionários, utilizando-se o método “survey”, estruturados com perguntas discursivas e de múltipla escolha e direcionados a pessoas escolhidas aleatoriamente. Constatou-se que a preferência por ovos brancos foi mais elevada (46,45%) comparada aos vermelhos (34,19%), em virtude da aparência (40,65%). Alguns consumidores acreditam que o ovo, dependendo da cor da sua casca, não apresenta equivalência nutricional (23,23%) e a maioria (45,81%) afirmam que a qualidade externa é o fator que mais influencia no ato da compra. No entanto, o consumo semanal pela maior parte dos entrevistados é baixo, não ultrapassando duas vezes por semana (47,74%). Com relação à carne de frango, a maioria consome (72,99%), e o frango caipira é o preferido pelos consumidores (50,32%). Entretanto, o consumo da carne ocorre, no máximo, duas vezes por semana (56,57%). 27,1% dos entrevistados afirmaram não consumir carne de frango; destes 3,87% acreditam que a mesma possui antibióticos e 8,39%, hormônios. Do total de entrevistados, 78,06% já ouviram falar em bem-estar animal. Destes, 83,23% aceitariam pagar mais caro por um produto obtido de aves criadas em sistemas que seguemos padrões de bem-estar. 73,13% dos entrevistados aceitariam pagar mais por um ovo enriquecido nutricionalmente. Mediante o exposto, observa-se que o baixo consumo tanto da carne quanto do ovo está associado a falsas informações divulgadas relativas à alimentação das aves e ao sistema de produção. Portanto, se fazem necessários maiores esclarecimentos sobre as questões levantadas, o que pode refletir em aumento no consumo tanto dos ovos quanto da carne de frango.(AU)

It was found that the preference for white eggs was higher (46.45%) compared to red (34.19%), because appearance (40.65%). Some consumers believe that the egg depending on the color of its bark, has no nutritional equivalence (23.23%) and the majority (45.81%) state that the external quality is the factor that most influences upon purchase. However, the weekly consumption by most respondents is low, not more than twice a week (47.74%). With regard to chicken meat, most consuming (72.99%), and the jerk chicken is preferred by consumers (50.32%). However, the consumption of meat is no more than twice a week (56.57%) 27.1% of respondents said they consume chicken meat; 3.87% of these believe that it has antibiotics and 8.39%, hormones. To total respondents, 78.06% have heard of animal. Destes welfare, 83.23% would accept paying more for a product obtained from birds reared in systems seguemos welfare standards. 73.13% of respondents would accept paying more for an enriched egg nutritionally. Through the above, it is noted that the low power consumption as much meat as egg is associated with false information disclosed for the feeding of poultry and the production system. So are needed further clarifications on the issues raised, which may reflect increased consumption of both eggs as the chicken.(AU)

ABSTRACT Seeds of Acacia farnesiana are commonly sold in the local markets of northeastern Brazil as a therapeutic agent. The present work aimed to evaluate the anti-inflammatory and analgesic activities of proteins obtained from A. farnesiana seeds. Five different protein fractions (albumin, globulin, prolamin, acidic and basic glutelins) were obtained and investigated for the protein pattern, the presence of hemagglutinating and proteolytic activities. The globulin fraction (GLB) was also evaluated for anti-inflammatory and analgesic activities. Globulins reduced the paw edema induced by carrageenan in a dose-dependent manner, which was accompanied by a reduction of myeloperoxidase activity (p < 0.05). Additionally, GLB reduced the neutrophil peritoneal migration induced by carrageenan. However, GLB was not able to inhibit the edema triggered by dextran. Pre-treatment with globulins reduced the abdominal constrictions induced by acetic acid as well as the paw licking time induced by formalin (69.1% at first phase). However, it did not produce a significant antinociceptive effect in the hot plate test (55-56 °C). Treating the GLB with heat (at 100 °C for 30 min) abolished its anti-edematogenic and hemagglutinating activities. Our results showed that seeds from A. farnesiana are a source of proteins with anti-inflammatory and analgesic properties.


RESUMO Sementes de Acacia farnesiana são comumente vendidas em feiras locais no nordeste do Brasil como agente terapêutico. O presente trabalho objetivou avaliar as atividades antiinflamatória e antinociceptiva de proteínas obtidas de sementes de A. farnesiana. Cinco frações protéicas distintas (albuminas, globulinas, prolaminas, glutelinas ácidas e básicas) foram obtidas e investigadas quanto o perfil de proteínas, presença de atividade hemaglutinante e proteolítica. A fração globulina (GLB) também foi avaliada quanto a presença de atividade antiinflamatória e analgésica. Globulinas reduziram o edema de pata induzido por carragenina de modo dependente da dose que foi acompanhada da redução da atividade da mieloperoxidase (p < 0,05). Em adição, GLB reduziu a migração de neutrófilos para cavidade peritoneal induzida por carragenina. Entretanto, GLB não foi capaz de inibir o edema induzido por dextrana. O pré-tratamento com globulinas reduziu as contorções abdominais induzidas por ácido acético, bem como o tempo de lambedura da pata induzida por formalina (69.1% na primeira fase). Por outro lado, GLB não produziu um efeito antinociceptivo significante no teste de placa quente (55-56 °C). O pré-tratamento de GLB com calor (100 °C por 30 min) aboliu sua atividade anti-edematogênica e hemaglutinante. Nossos resultados mostraram que sementes de A. farnesiana são fonte de proteínas com propriedades antiinflamatórias e analgésicas.

Realizou-se um estudo para caracterizar a situação epidemiológica da brucelose bovina no Estado de Sergipe. O Estado foi estratificado em dois circuitos produtores. Em cada circuito produtor foram amostradas aleatoriamente cerca de 300 propriedades e, dentro dessas foi escolhido de forma aleatória um número pré-estabelecido de animais, dos quais foi obtida uma amostra de sangue. No total foram amostrados 4.757 animais, provenientes de 590 propriedades. Em cada propriedade amostrada foi aplicado um questionário epidemiológico para verificar o tipo de exploração da propriedade e as práticas zootécnicas e sanitárias que poderiam estar associadas ao risco de infecção pela doença. O protocolo de testes utilizado foi o da triagem com o teste do antígeno acidificado tamponado e a confirmação dos positivos com o teste do 2-mercaptoetanol. O rebanho foi considerado positivo, se pelo menos um animal foi reagente às duas provas sorológicas. A prevalência de focos e a de animais foram: 12,6 por cento [9,2-16,0 por cento] e 3,4 por cento [2,3-4,4 por cento], respectivamente. As prevalências de focos e de animais infectados para os circuitos pecuários foram: circuito 1, 11,1 por cento [7,9-15,0 por cento] e 2,6 por cento [1,6-3,5 por cento]; circuito 2, 12,9 por cento [9,1-17,6 por cento] e 6,2 por cento [3,0-9,5 por cento]. Os fatores de risco (odds ratio, OR) associados à condição de foco foram: assistência veterinária (OR= 2,89 [1,15-7,23]), tamanho do rebanho ≥30 fêmeas adultas (OR= 1,88 [1,07-3,28]) e uso de inseminação artificial (OR= 1,92 [0,84-4,38]).(AU)


A study to characterize the epidemiological situation of bovine brucellosis in the State of Sergipe was carried out. The State was divided in two regions. Around three hundred herds were randomly sampled in each region and a pre-established number of animals were sampled in each of these herds. A total of 4,757 serum samples from 590 herds were collected. In each herd, it was applied an epidemiological questionnaire focused on herd traits as well as husbandry and sanitary practices that could be associated with the risk of infection. The serum samples were screened by the Rose-Bengal Test (RBT) and positive sera were re-tested by the 2-mercaptoethanol test (2-ME). The herd was considered positive if at least one animal was positive on both RBT and 2-ME tests. The prevalences of infected herds and animals in the State were, respectively: 12.6 percent [9.2-16.0 percent] and 3.4 percent [2.3-4.4 percent]. The prevalences of infected herds and animals in the regions were, respectively: region 1, 11.1 percent [7.9-15.0 percent] and 2.6 percent [1.6-3.5 percent]; and region 2, 12.9 percent [9.1-17.6 percent] and 6.2 percent [3.0-9.5 percent]. The risk factors associated with the presence of the infection were: veterinary assistance (OR= 2.89 [1.15-7.23]), herd size ≥30 adult females (OR= 1.88 [1.07-3.28]), and use of artificial insemination (OR=1.92 [0.84-4.38]).(AU)
