ABSTRACT

These two deformities are rare and the 8 reported cases give evidence of the cosmopolitan feature of these malformations (Madagascar, Ivory Coast, Central African Empire, Djibouti).

ABSTRACT

In an infant of good condition, skin changes, anemia, hepato-splenomegalia and more over radiological osseous changes are symptoms of great value which are to be confirmed by a serological test of the baby and its mother. Treatment is very effective but it would be better to protect the foetus by an early detection and treatment of the syphilitic pregnant woman.

ABSTRACT

The naso-pharyngo-oral leishmaniasis is not limited to South America. Cases have been reported in Africa showing that its prevalence in this area has been underrated. Its diagnosis is easy and early treatment will prevent facial lesions.

ABSTRACT

Report of a typical syndrome of which the leishmanial origin has been difficult to prove. The decrease of cellular immunity may be responsible for the pulmonary tuberculosis and Hbs hepatitis which occured after the successful treatment of the leishmaniasis with Glucantime and Lomidine.

ABSTRACT

Report of a case of visceral and cutaneous leishmaniasis in an european boy living in Upper-Volta and whose brother had a merely cutaneous form of the disease. Comments on the role of personnal susceptibility, environment and arthropod vectors. In each given area would it exist a special type of leishmania related to the local vectors and which would give various clinical forms according to a second degree ecological system associating man and parasite.

ABSTRACT

A clinical description according to four age groups: before 5 with hand and foot syndrome, hemolytic chronic and sometimes acute anemia; after 5 with frequent surgical-like abdominal syndromes and development troubles; after puberty with patent dystrophia and anemia; adult age group of rare surviving patients. The drepanocytic condition is aggravated by various infections and reversly facilitate lung infections and osteitis caused by staphylococci or salmonellae. Malaria trophozoïte is suspected of inducing sickling which gives way to a rapid phagocytosis of both sickle cell and Plasmodium.

ABSTRACT

Report of an african case of idiopathic mega-oesophagus observed after 6 years of evolution without any treatment. Surgery (Heller technic) gave a good result and brought evidence of a non-expected peritoneal tuberculosis related to cachexy. The patient having discarded all medical follow-up, death occured 2 years later.

ABSTRACT

Ischemic cardiopathies in Eastern Africans at Djibouti are frequent: 2.9 % of the in patients and 73 % of the cardiac diseases. Male prevalence is marked. Coronary insufficiency is most often demonstrated by the usual symptomatology. Three groups of electrocardiopathic manifestations have been individualised: ischemia proving angor (288 cases), anginose syndromes revealing a myocardic infarct (81 cases), acute myocardic infarcts (62 cases). The patients come for the most part from Djibouti and belong to any social class. The part played by a food mainly constituted of complex glucids, refined sugar and lipids is pointed out. Arterial hypertension, diabetes, essential hypercholesterolemia and tobacco intoxication are the most frequent risk factors. This coronary pathology is closer the one met with in the Near East than ischemic cardiopathies observed in tropical Africa which begin to emerge.

ABSTRACT

Case of an 48 year old man who has presented from 1968 to 1973 a lot of diseases such as: --mitral incompletence discovered in 1968 in Madagascar island in spite of many previous clinical examinations; --acute pneumonia and heart failure in January 1973. Serological reactions of Ricketsia were quite positive; --acute thrombosis of right humeral artery in May 1973. It has been treated by surgical way, bay "desobstruction" and by pass and medical treatment chloramphenicol). Pathologic endartery has been inoculated to an hamster, cobaye. These animal became feverish, and presented an inflammation of testis. A least serological reaction of Ricketsia became positive for all of them; --few weeks, thrombosis of left femoral and posterior tibial arteries treated by surgical and medical ways. Some commens are exposed about evolution of Coxiella Burneti infections, about the frequency of arterial and cardiac lesions, and about the effect of tifomycine which seems to be decreasing and the action of cycline (doxicycline).
