ABSTRACT
In 29 patients with chronic pancreatitis, 15 patients with malignant tumours of the pancreas and in 30 controls lactoferrin in fluid aspirated from the duodenum was assessed during the cholecystokinin-secretin (CCK-S) test. As compared with the control group, its concentration is significantly higher in patients with chronic pancreatitis, but not in patients with malignant tumours of the pancreas. It is probable that estimation of lactoferrin in the CCK-S test may prove helpful in the differential diagnosis of pancreatic disease.

The argon laser was used in 30 persons with various lesions of the alimentary canal. Of 17 patients with an intensive haemorrhage (gastric or duodenal ulcer, gastric erosions, haemorrhage after an endoscopic polypectomy) the treatment was successful in 15 cases. In 8 patients the basis of an endoscopically removed malignant rectosigmoid polyp was treated: in one case a recidivation developed, in the remaining 7 cases during the following 13 to 24 months no local recidivation was to be observed. Of the 4 patients with an obturating carcinoma (oesophagus, rectum) we were only once successful in removing the tumour masses and thus again rendering possible the passage. In the last patient in question a recidivation of a rectum carcinoma in the anastomosis was concerned, in which the prominuing tumour mass could be removed; after 20 months no other recidivation could be established.

Authors report on their experiences with the evaluation of lactoferrin in the duodenal juice in patients with pancreatic diseases. The duodenal juice was collected after preceeding stimulation of the pancreas by means of a cholecystokinin-secretin-Test (CCK-S-test). Authors show that the evaluation of lactoferrin in connection with the CCK-S-test can better differentiate between inflammatory and neoplastic pancreatic diseases. The estimation shows the sufficiently sensitive, simply and quickly practicable. Therefore it is recommended as a diagnostic procedure for pancreatology.
