ABSTRACT

A new method for analysis of volatile endogenous compounds in exhaled air using portable gas chromatographer with photoionization detector has been developed. Detection threshold for ethanol and acetone is 0.1 mg/ml, this permitting one to omit the step of concentrating the exhaled air samples. The accuracy of detection is 5.9 to 7.7%. The concentration of endogenous ethanol in health was 0.12 to 0.3 mg/m3, that of acetone 0.6 to 2.8 mg/m3, that in cardiopulmonary patients 0.8 to 6.4 mg/m3 for ethanol and 2.9 to 47.2 mg/m3 for acetone. Fasting for 24 h led to 15-fold increase of acetone concentration in exhaled air.

ABSTRACT

The authors offer a new method for continuous monitoring of endogenic carbon monoxide elimination in expired air of rats during inhalation of different oxygen mixtures. For the real-time CO detection at a 10 ppb level and at high CO2 and H2O concentrations the adjustable diode laser spectroscopy was used. Short intense peaks of CO in exhaled air after the onset of O2 inhalation was observed. The 60 min inhalation of 100% O2, 80% O2 and 60% O2 caused 44, 37 and 27% increases of endogenic CO as compared to initial concentrations, respectively. The duration of the effect of increased CO elimination had the tendency for a decrease with reduced concentrations of O2 in the inhaled gas mixture.

ABSTRACT

The changes of phospholipid fatty acid composition of the viscera were investigated in a model of aconitinic arrhythmia in rats by the GC method. Aconitinic arrhythmia leads to a reduction in a proportion of polyenic fatty acids (arachidonic, docosahexaenoic) and to an increase in that of saturated acids (palmitic and stearic acids) in visceral phospholipids as a result of developed respiratory and circulatory hypoxia and to activation of lipid peroxidation. The most hypoxia-sensitive are phospholipids of the heart and brain, the least are renal phospholipids. The ratio of saturated to polyunsaturated fatty acids is the most informative value of lipid peroxidation in aconitinic arrhythmia.

ABSTRACT

In the hyperbaric chamber with the help of chromatographic, spectrophotometric and gravimetric methods the dynamics of the sorption of the volatile chemical matters (11 substances) on the activated charcoal and ion exchange fibrous material has been investigated. By the 30 kg/cm2 (He) the purifying speed of the gas environment from the chemical matters was less, than by the 1 kg/cm2, and the saturation state of the sorbents in the hyperbaric conditions was coming late. The change of the external gas pressure change a parameters of the volatile matters diffusion in the gas environment and sorbents, but do not influence on the qualitative character of the sorption in the homological line of the investigated matters.
