[Evaluation of interleukin-6 level and its soluble receptor concentration in children with chronic renal failure]. / Ocena poziomu interleukiny-6 i jej rozpuszczalnego receptora u dzieci z przewlekla niewydolnoscia nerek.

The cytokines play a main role as mediators in immunological response. IL-6 with IL-2 and INF-gamma take a part in stimulation and differentiation of cytotoxic lymphocytes T, in stimulation and production of antibodies by lymphocytes B, in stimulation of production of acute phase proteins by hepatocytes and in proliferation of mezenchymal cells. The aim of this study was a comparison of concentrations of IL-6 and sIL-6R in children with chronic renal failure on dialysis treatment (11 children), continuous ambulatory peritoneal dialysis (10 children) and conservative therapy (18 children). They concluded that the concentration of IL-6 in children on hemodialysis therapy comparing with children on conservative therapy was nearly significant.

[Economical benefits of one-day surgery treatment in children: 10 year of experience]. / Korzysci ekonomiczne leczenia niektórych schorzen chirurgicznych w oddziale chirurgii jednego dnia--10 lat doswiadczen.

The authors present economical benefits of one day surgery treatment in children on the ground of own 10 years experiences. Analysis was made on the basis of 5855 children treated in Department of Pediatric Surgery in Zabrze (Poland) from March 1987 to March 1997. During this time 50.8% operations were performed in ambulatory surgery form. Global savings for hospital budget were achieved 77.2%. Authors point that one day surgery increases the efficiency of the surgical ward.
