ABSTRACT

Clinical characteristics of pseudostroke conditions in connection with the nature of somatic pathology, responsible for those conditions, were investigated in 52 patients. According to the character of somatic pathology all the elder patients were divided into 4 groups: myocardial infarction and progressive heart insufficiency, acute lung and heart insufficiency, inflammatory kidney disorders with signs of renal insufficiency, different intoxications. According to the results of macroscopic brain investigation, there were post-ischaemic cysts. Pathogenetic aspects of post-stroke conditions are discussed.

ABSTRACT

The state of the cardiovascular system was studied over time in 171 patients with a history of acute impairment of the brain circulation; 135 of them were suffering from coronary heart disease (CHD) (the study group) and 35 patients were free of CHD (the control group). The majority of the study group patients showed little if any clinical manifestations of CHD in the acute period of cerebral stroke. Five (3.7%) patients displayed small focal myocardial infarction on the ECG, two showed focal dystrophy of the myocardium, 71 (52.2%) patients had compromised coronary circulation and 47.5% of the patients had various disorders of rhythm and conductivity. The impairment of the coronary circulation in the acute period of cerebral stroke was shown to correlate with a subsequent course of CHD.

ABSTRACT

The method of ultrasound dopplerography (USDG) was used for the diagnosis of common and internal carotid artery occlusions on the neck. The linear velocity of the blood flow in the common, internal and supratrochlear arteries was examined. Four dopplerographic criteria were established, which permitted to detect an occlusion of the carotid arteries in 38 out of 39 cases. The coincidence of a dopplero- and angiographic diagnosis was marked in 97,4% of the observations. The technique of USDG is relatively simple and safe. Although the method cannot completely substitute angiography, it can significantly expand the diagnostic possibilities during examination of patients with cerebrovascular disorders.
