ABSTRACT

Mycobacterium lentiflavum infrequently causes pathogenicity in humans, although it has been identified as causing cervical lymphadenitis and lung involvement. It usually has a poorly aggressive clinical course and a nodule-bronchiectatic radiological pattern is associated. In our case, we report a patient with a nonspecific respiratory clinic and presence of bronchiectasis and pseudonodular morphology lesions in thoracic computed tomography. In the thoracic CT scan of positron emission tomography (PET) there was evidence of an increase in the size and metabolism of these lesions. Biopsy is performed to rule out malignancy, with Mycobacterium lentiflavum growing in sample culture

ABSTRACT

Skin histopathology reports of melanoma routinely include important prognostic information used in the staging system of the American Joint Committee on Cancer (AJCC).This information, which influences disease management, includes tumor depth, presence of ulceration, number of mitotic figures, and presence or absence of microsatellites. However, numerous studies have found many other factors that are not included in the AJCC classification but that are nevertheless of prognostic significance. We discuss these factors in this paper (AU)

ABSTRACT

We present a case of lymphoepithelioma of the larynx, a very rare tumour in this location. The relationship between lymphoepithelial carcinoma of the larynx and Epstein-Barr virus, is still controversial. We describe one new case of this tumour involving the supraglottis, and it's surgery and radioterapic treatment. The diagnostic problems and therapy associated with this rare tumour are discussed.

ABSTRACT

ABSTRACT

ABSTRACT

A relation between kidney and inner ear disease, specifically neurosensorial hearing loss, has been established. Likewise, the role of tonsillitis in certain glomerulonephritides is well known. A case of post-streptococcal mesangial glomerulonephritis with IgA deposit (Berger's disease) and neurosensorial hearing loss is reported. The absence of any relevant family or personal history suggests an immunological origin for both disorders.

ABSTRACT

Granular cell tumor is a neoplasm usually benign, which only in two percent of the cases affects the esophagus. Histologically it is composed by two kind of cells: granular and angled body cells. The histogenesis of this tumor remains controversial; however, it has been recently demonstrated, by immunohistochemical methods, the presence of proteins that are specific of the nervous system. The diagnosis is frequently done incidentally and by endoscopic biopsy. We report a case of granular cell tumor of the distal esophagus found incidentally during a routine endoscopic examination. We review the English and Spanish literatures, focussing on the histological and diagnostic peculiarities. The clinical management and the different available therapeutics, according to symptoms and tumor size, are discussed.

ABSTRACT

The finding of a double primitive pulmonary neoplasm in the same patient is a fact rarely published, between 0.5 and 3.5% depending on the series, most of them surgical or necropsies series. We present the case of a patient who after being diagnosed of bronchial epidermoid carcinoma and treated with radiotherapy, developed, one year later, a relapsing homolateral pleural effusion due to an oat-cell type carcinoma. We review the incidence of this association in the scientific literature, outlining the difficulty to establish the diagnosis in patients non treated with radical surgery.
