ABSTRACT

The paper describes the elaborated method of computer assisted manufacturing of plastic templates for optimal topography of endodontic access in molars according to CT and laser surface scanning data. The method was tested on extracted teeth, its use in clinical practice will greatly reduce the errors rate and minimize the hard tissues loss by endodontic assess creation.

ABSTRACT

The paper describes a method of root canal retreatment that enables by means of CT data, laser surface scanning of teeth and a number of software to create plastic templates making possible successful retreatment with minimal risk of complications. The effectiveness of the method was evaluated in vitro on 10 extracted teeth. Application of the method in clinical practice enables the highest degree of accuracy and security of the procedure.

ABSTRACT

Effect of administration of selective N-methyl-D-aspartate (NMDA) receptor antagonist Ro 25-6981 on learning and memory in a dose which is known to stimulate neoneurogenesis was assessed in adult rats with different abilities to formation of spatial skills in different time periods after the antagonist injection. Wistar male rats were trained to find hidden platform in the Morris water maze for 5 consecutive days. Rats' learning ability for spatial skill formation was evaluated depending on platform speed achievements. In re-training sessions (cues and platform location changed), it was found that all rats received Ro 25-6981 13 days before the re-training demonstrated impaired spatial memory. At the same time the inhibitor injected 29 days before re-training selectively facilitated the formation of spatial skill in animals with initially low learning abilities.

ABSTRACT

An anaerobic phototrophic bacterial community in Lake Mogilnoe, a relict lake on Kil'din Island in the Barents Sea, was studied in June 1999 and September 2001. Irrespective of the season, the upper layer of the anaerobic zone of this lake had a specific species composition of sulfur phototrophic bacteria, which were dominated by the brown-colored green sulfur bacterium Chlorobium phaeovibrioides. The maximum number of phototrophic sulfur bacteria was observed in June 1999 at a depth of 9 m, which corresponded to a concentration of bacteriochlorophyll (Bchl) e equal to 4.6 mg/l. In September 2001, the maximum concentration of this pigment (3.4 mg/l) was found at a depth of 10 m. In both seasons, the concentration of Bchl a did not exceed 3 microg/l. Purple sulfur bacteria were low in number, which can be explained by their poor adaptation to the hydrochemical and optical conditions of the Lake Mogilnoe water. In June 1999, the water contained a considerable number of Pelodictyon phaeum microcolonies and Prosthecochloris phaeoasteroides cell chains, which was not the case in September 2001. A 16S rDNA-based phylogenetic analysis of pure cultures of phototrophic bacteria isolated from the lake water confirmed that the bacterial community is dominated by Chl. phaeovibrioides and showed the presence of three minor species, Thiocvstis gelatinosa, Thiocapsa sp., and Thiorhodococcus sp., the last of which is specific to Lake Mogilnoe.

ABSTRACT

The purpose of the study was to establish the prevalence of uric acid (UA) metabolism disturbances as a possible risk factor of urate nephropathy in women of various age groups. The authors carried out a retrospective analysis of 757 case histories and performed uricemia and uricosuria screening in women aged 18 to 69 years. The study revealed significant age-dependent elevation of uricemia, with hyperuricemia (HUE) at the age of 60 to 69 years old. The study also found age-dependent increase of HUE rate with its significant elevation in postmenopausal women (older than 50 years), compared with HUE rate in reproductive age women (18 to 49 years old) -37.9% vs. 11.4%. For the first time the researchers established UA excretion level and found a significant tendency of uricosuria to decrease with age (p < 0.016 between the groups of 40 to 49 and 50 to 59 years old). The highest rate of hyperuricosuria was revealed in women of 40 to 49 years old (22.2%), while in women of 18 to 29 and 60 to 69 years old it was 10.1% to 12.1%. For the first time the authors established the rate of hypouricosuria in women, which culminated in women older than 50 (22% of cases). The increase of HUE rate, which is most prominent in postmenopausal women, is associated with the decrease in UA excretion, accompanied by the decrease of hyperuricosuria rate and increase of hypouricosuria rate. Taking into account high prevalence of UA metabolism disturbances in women older than 50, menopause may be considered a risk factor of HUE and urate nephropathy.

ABSTRACT

Meloxicam application in complex of prophylactic treatment of patients with colonic cancer, complicated by an acute obturation ileus, had promoted the lowering of postoperative complications rate, caused by inhibition of the inflammation mediators synthesis and connected with him pathologic reactions of the systemic inflammatory response syndrome (SIRS).

ABSTRACT

Interrelationship of the immune state of patients with the reactive anxiety degree in patients suffering gastroduodenal ulcer disease was established. The most pronounced inhibition of the immunity cell link along with moderate activation of its humoral link was noted in patients with low degree of anxiety, and less pronounced one--with high degree of anxiety, in patients with middle degree of anxiety the changes were absent.
