ABSTRACT

The authors describe their case of primary giant pulmonary leiomyosarcoma as a rare cancer nosological entity. The specific features of the case were not only its rarity, the extent of lung and mediastinal involvement, and the pattern of tumor growth, but also the absence of metastases despite aggressive course. The size of the tumor and its specific growth pattern determined technical surgical treatment problems and early postoperative complications that resulted in death.

ABSTRACT

100 inpatients with chronic hepatitis, mainly with mild hepatitis, underwent serological, histological, and immunohistochemical studies for markers of HBV and HCV infections. The histological features of HBV and HCV infections coincided with serological and immunohistochemical findings. The histological and immunohistochemical features of HBV- and HBV+HCV infection were found in 48.3% patients with chronic hepatitis of unknown etiology. Immunohistochemical studies considerably increased the efficiency of establishing HBV+HCV infection as compared with serological diagnosis. Multivariate statistic methods were used to construct a model of the differential diagnosis of chronic hepatitis B and C based on the most important histological features, the predictive value was 87.7%.

ABSTRACT

Etiological markers for HBV and HBC were studied in 26 cases of chronic hepatitis. In 21 cases coincidence of serological and immunohistochemical results was found, in 9 cases markers of other viruses were registered. Immunohistochemical markers were identified in 3 of 5 liver biopsies in patients with negative serological tests. Histological signs of HBV and HBC corresponded to those of serological and immunohistochemical ones in 17 cases.
