ABSTRACT

Multifactorial statistical analysis was used to identify differential diagnostic cytological features of glandular hyperplasia, atypical hyperplasia and well-differentiated adenocarcinoma of the endometrium. Twelve cytological features were identified for calculating linear discriminant function. The effectiveness of the diagnostic algorithm depends upon the diagnostic value of the sample and proficiency of the cytologist.

ABSTRACT

The paper reveals shortcomings of medical care for cancer outpatients. Basing on cancer incidence and analysis of the activities of outpatient oncological units, measures are brought forward to advance prophylactic, diagnostic and therapeutic service for cancer outpatients.

ABSTRACT

The paper discusses the results of a cooperative study concerned with the immediate and end results of treatment of stage III cancer of the antral part and body of the stomach in patients randomly assigned to receive surgery either alone (142 cases) or in combination with preoperative Co 60 gamma teletherapy (139). Preoperative radiotherapy was not followed by increase in postoperative complication rate as compared to surgery alone. Combined treatment appeared to assure higher three- and five-year survival. Irradiation in the total dose of 20 Gy induced grade I-II pathomorphosis of tumor. Ways towards raising the efficacy of the radiation component of combined (radiosurgical) treatment of gastric cancer need to be further investigated.

ABSTRACT

Out-patient diagnosis of cancer is carried out in three stages which involve activities of different physicians. Cancer is first suspected by a general practitioner. Prophylactic measures other than examination by specialists and chest photo-roentgenography proved insufficient, and the authors give reasons for this. During the second stage, the patient undergoes further thorough examination which should be well organized to succeed. The third stage, viz. making the final diagnosis, should be performed in an oncologic establishment only.

ABSTRACT

It is pointed out that distinctive features of malignant neoplasms of the female genital system determine peculiarity of organization of medical care for patients with cancer of uterus, ovary and external genital organs. Violation of the basic principle, i.e., examination and treatment of oncogynecologic patients should be carried out only in specialized departments, mostly is the cause of the main defects of the above kind of medical care (late diagnosis, inadequate treatment). The number of oncogynecologic departments and their bed fund should be planned on the basis of malignant neoplasm morbidity rates among the female residents of the given territory.

ABSTRACT

Computerized multifactorial analysis of 56 cytologic features was performed in 135 cases suffering glandular and atypical hyperplasia and well-differentiated endometrial carcinoma (45 patients in each group). The established regularities enabled students to differentiate between hyperplasia and cancer in 95% of cases in classes and in 73-83% at examination.
