ABSTRACT

Personalized pharmacotherapy based on pharmacogenetic data tends to improve therapeutic outcome in neurological and mental diseases including depression. Combination of available data from genomics, proteomics, metabolomics, neuroimaging and neuroendocrinology would lead to a successful personalized therapy of depression in the near future, which is based on genotypes and biomarkers. Close collaboration between basic and clinical research is indispensable. Different research approaches for a personalized therapy of depression were introduced within the framework of the Robert Pfleger research award 2012.
