ABSTRACT

Influence of complete transversal section of spinal cord on secretion of hormones by hypothalamo-hypophyseal system under adaptive restoration of hyrosecretory function of kidneys was studied in chronic experiments on 28 dogs. In separate terms after the operation the level of antidiuretic hormones and oxytocin in blood plasma did not correspond to degree of organism's hydration--in contrast to intact animals. The mechanism of reciprocal secretion of hormones into the blood and CSF after the spinal section became disordered. The blood--brain barrier remained impenetrable for hormones of neurohypophysis in conditions of the spinal trauma.

ABSTRACT

Antidiuretic and oxytocic activities of venous blood plasma and liquor of ambient cistern of the cerebrum were studied in chronic experiments on alert dogs at different levels of hydration. Liquor was found to have oxytocic activity and practically no antidiuretic activity at ordinary hydration and after two days of thirst. After three days of thirst, dog's liquor caused antidiuretic reaction in rats anesthetized with alcohol, the reaction being lesser than those caused by simultaneously received plasma samples. Liquor displayed an obvious antidiuretic reaction similar to that of vasopressin after prolonged i.v. administration of hypotonic NaCl solution, while plasma samples only had the diuretic effect.

ABSTRACT

Interaction between exogenous and endogenous oxtocin and vasopressin was found to affect the mechanism of milk ejection by the alveoli of the mammary gland in lactating rats. Inhibition and stimulation of the effect of oxytocin on milk ejection by vasopressin was demonstrated. On the basis of the principles observed the concentrations fo these hormones were investigated in the plasma of dogs deprived of water for 3 days and then allowed to drink.
