ABSTRACT

Introduction: The present study aimed to examine the effects of online game addiction on reduced academic achievement motivation, and the mediating role of learning engagement among Chinese college students to investigate the relationships between the three variables. Methods: The study used convenience sampling to recruit Chinese university students to participate voluntarily. A total of 443 valid questionnaires were collected through the Questionnaire Star application. The average age of the participants was 18.77 years old, with 157 males and 286 females. Statistical analysis was conducted using SPSS and AMOS. Results: (1) Chinese college students' online game addiction negatively affected their behavioral, emotional, and cognitive engagement (the three dimensions of learning engagement); (2) behavioral, emotional, and cognitive engagement negatively affected their reduced academic achievement motivation; (3) learning engagement mediated the relationship between online game addiction and reduced academic achievement motivation.

ABSTRACT

Hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) is a common malignant tumor with high mortality. Our previous study has confirmed that XPD acts as an anti-oncogene and is downregulated in HCC. The mechanism of XPD downregulation in HCC is unclear. In this work, we obtained the datasets related to HCC patients from GSE76427, LIRI-JP, and TCGA-LIHC cohorts. Among 15 m5C regulators (NSUN2, NSUN3, NSUN4, NSUN5, NSUN6, NSUN7, DNMT1, TRDMT1, DNMT3A, DNMT3B and NOP2, TET1, TET2, and TET3, ALYREF), 14 m5C regulators were upregulated in tumor tissues of HCC patients, except for TET2. HCC patients were divided into Cluster A and B with different m5C methylation patterns. Cluster B was enriched in metabolism-related signaling pathways, and Cluster A was prominently associated with the cell cycle signaling pathway. Moreover, XPD was positively correlated with NOP2. Cluster B exhibited upregulation of XPD and had an obvious survival advantage with respect to Cluster A. Additionally, NOP2 and XPD were downregulated in HCC tumors and cells. In vitro assays revealed that NOP2 overexpression enhanced XPD expression by elevating the m5C methylation of XPD, which contributed to inhibit proliferation, migration, and invasion of HCC cells. In conclusion, this work demonstrated that XPD mRNA stability was elevated by NOP2-mediated m5C methylation modification and then inhibited the malignant progression of HCC, suggesting that XPD may be a potential target for HCC treatment.

ABSTRACT

This retrospective study assessed the feasible effect of Yiqihuoxue Formula (YQHXF) for the treatment of patients with ischemic stroke (IS).A total of 66 patients with IS were included in this retrospective study. All patients received routine treatment, and were divided into two groups: a treatment group (n = 33) and a control group (n = 33). In addition to the routine treatment, all patients in the treatment group also underwent YQHXF treatment. All patients in both groups were treated for a total of 8 weeks. The outcomes were assessed by National Institute of Health Stroke Scale (NIHSS), modified Rankin scale (mRS), Barthel index scale (BIS), stroke-specific quality of life (SS-QOL) scale, and adverse events. All outcomes were measured before and after the treatment. After treatment, patients in the treatment group showed better improvements in NIHSS scale (P = .01), mRS (P < .01), BIS (P = .04), and SS-QOL scale (P = .04), than patients in the control group. No treatment-associated adverse events were recorded in this study. The results of this study indicated that YQHXF may benefit for patients with IS.

ABSTRACT

OBJECTIVE: To explore the diagnosis and surgical treatment of patients with periampullary carcinoma and situs inversus totalis. METHODS: The data of a patient with periampullary carcinoma and complete situs inversus totalis, a rare disease treated in our hospital on Mar. 2006, was reported, and relative articles were reviewed. RESULTS: This patient was diagnosed with stage I to II of periampullary carcinoma. Bilirubin was recovered one week postoperatively. Incomplete adhesive ileus at gastroenteral anastomosis appeared 2 weeks after the operation and was healed by nutritional support, acupuncture, endoscopic drainage and enteral nutrition. From 1936 to 2006, 15 malignant tumors with situs viscerum inversus totalis were reported, only 5 periampullary carcinomas with situs viscerum inversus totalis were reported. CONCLUSIONS: Surgical operation should be considered for malignant tumor patients with situs inversus totalis without contraindication. Attention should be paid to the opposite anatomical structure in this kind of situation.
