ABSTRACT

One of the most promising and innovative developments in medicine are telemedical systems. The system PulmoTel 2010 and its internal validation are presented, focusing on the system architecture, hardware, software and communication solutions. PulmoTel 2010 consists of a distant server managing users and medical devices, as well as data transmission, processing, storage and presentation. The server cooperates with home units used by patients, capable of performing lung function tests. All the elements communicate via the Internet, however other media, as wire and mobile telephony, can be additionally applied in regions with a less developed infrastructure. Internal validation of the system was performed using data generated by application simulating features of a home unit. It demonstrated an appropriate operation of the overall system and fulfillment of the main objectives of the project.

ABSTRACT

Allergy is an increasing problem therapeutic. The development of IgE-mediated allergy is a result of genetic and environmental factors. The severity of disease seems to be increasing. Immunotherapy offers a specific treatment, and a long-term effect and method that can change the development of the atopic state. The treatment allergy should always be carried out in accordance with a careful judgement of related costs: price, efforts, risk and benefits: preventive long-term effect, decreased symptoms and the use of medication.

ABSTRACT

Eosinophil granulocyte plays a crucial role in the pathogenesis of allergic and non-allergic upper and lower respiratory tract diseases. A number of diseases and syndromes of nonallergic mechanisms (non IgE mediated) with nose and sinus symptoms and the presence of eosinophilic cells have been described in the recent decade. The paper focuses on the discussion of the symptomatology and classification of such cases.

ABSTRACT

The development of differential diagnosis of rhinitis has multiplied their present classification. Generally, there are known two types of classifications: a) based on nasal cytology (Connell 1983); b) arising from clinical evaluations (Mygind 1985). Zeiger's work (1989) takes into consideration both types of classifications and describes them widely. This paper presents different methods used as background in contemporary classifications rhinitis.

ABSTRACT

The effects of serum collected from 20 workers involved directly in manufacturing processes upon lymphocytes blastic transformation in healthy subjects have been tested. The controls included: spontaneous blastic transformation of lymphocytes found in healthy subjects (15) and lymphocytes blastic transformation in healthy subjects in the presence of serum from other healthy subjects (13). The tests have demonstrated that the serum of the Motor Car Factory workers statistically significantly stimulated lymphocytes blastic transformation, unlike the serum of healthy subjects.

ABSTRACT

Periodical examinations of 472 industrial workers exposed to noise promoted classification of those workers' hearing into four categories: A. Normal hearing, B. Non-noise-induced impairments, C. Multi-causal impairments, not excluding noise, D. Chronic acoustic trauma. To the particular categories, appropriate qualifying, preventive or therapeutic procedure have been ascribed. Appropriate hearing category (A, B, C or D) entered into the worker's health record book would spare repeating the medical examinations at a new workplace, simplify administrative, certificatory (selection of the workplace, prevention or treatment) and claiming procedures.

ABSTRACT

Results of 5-year periodic examinations and SDH, LAP and GGTP activity in blood serum of 207 workers chronically exposed to ethyl gasoline and other petroleum products were analysed. In addition, in the selected groups, the levels of IgA, IgG and IgM immunoglobulins, complement C3 fraction and alpha2 macroglobulins were determined. Results of objective and enzymatic examinations indicate a slight toxic liver lesion. No significant changes in albuminous fractions were found, except a significant reduction in alpha2 macroglobulins.

ABSTRACT

Examinations were carried out on the frequency of the occurrence of myocardiopathy and arterial hypertension in 492 miners and 175 manual workers employed on mines surface. Physical symptoms of cardiac muscle degeneration were found in 7,3%, electrocardiographical symptoms in 11,1%, whereas in 9,9% miners hypertension was found. No significant difference between the frequency of these diseases in pit miners, as compared with those manual workers working on the surface of the mines, was found.
