ABSTRACT

The aim of the study was to evaluate the healing of the gingival grafts covered with Solcoseryl dental adhesive paste (Solco Basel AG) in comparison with the grafts covered with Peripac. By means of thermistor thermometer coupled with a chart recorder, three series of temperature as time recordings of grafted tissues after normalized cooling were performed--before grafting, 2 and 12 weeks after grafting. On the basis of temperature recovery curves obtained, the blood supply coefficients were computed. It was revealed that in the Solcoseryl group there was an improvement in blood supply in 75% of the cases--2 weeks, and 66%--12 weeks after grafting. In the other group, the same reaction was observed only in 50% and 30% of the cases respectively.

ABSTRACT

For an assessment of the therapeutic effectiveness of peat poultices in parodontal diseases in 156 patients of either sex aged 24-68 years the authors used the gingival index, Suleus Fluid Rate, selective cytometric examination of salivary sediment and electrothermometric testing of the gingiva before and after this treatment. Moreover, after the treatment the patients answered an inquiry for expressing their opinion on the course and effectiveness of peat treatment. The difference test used in the calculations demonstrated statistically significant differences before and after the treatment with respect to the gingival index and Suleus Fluid Rate. Statistically significant differences were found also between the values of the leucocyte index and the keratinization index before and after peat treatment. The opinions of the patients were mostly positive.

ABSTRACT

Usefulness of CPITN indicator in specialistic parodontological care in 70 patients aged between 15-59 years has been estimated. One specialist was denoting the CPITN indicator on a special card and sending these patients to 1 out of 4 parodontologists in order to determine therapeutic management in a traditional way without knowing the value of CPITN. Comparing therapeutic needs based on CPITN value and on specialistic clinical examination it has been found that in 55.7% there existed a difference in parodontological needs and in 24.3% cases CPITN indicator determined therapeutic needs more precisely. It has resulted from utilization of diagnostic tool--WHO 621 tube. In 37.1% of the cases there existed inconsistency in determining therapeutic needs by both methods. It has resulted from the differences of both programs' assumptions. Although the CPITN system is intended for determination of parodontological needs of a certain community it can also be applied in specialistic parodontological care.

ABSTRACT

2439 men and employed in 4 industrial plants of Szczecin area had their masticatory system examined. Onto the cards prepared for electronic data processing the information has been written on: oral cavity caries (IMF), oral mucosa membrane, periodontium, parafunction and T.M.J. dysfunction. The main exposure factors of those plants have been determined, namely: welding gas, aromatic hydrocarbons, fluorine compounds, and copper dusts. The IMF values, oral hygiene, periodontal diseases as well as the TMJ-dysfunction in the test workers have been found to be approximately similar to the relevant values of other populations and to vary with sex, age or poor hygienic conditions. On the other hand, the prevalence of oral leukoplakia and parafunction seems to be dependent on the working environment.
