ABSTRACT

General characteristics of nucleoli in all layers of stratified squamous epithelium were studied in 234 cases of dysplasia and intraepithelial cancer of cervix uteri. Cytomorphometric measurements were carried out. The nuclear-cytoplasmic ratio was determined. Certain regularities pertinent to neoplastic process progression and aging were established. 2,375 patients with moderate dysplasia and 1,625 patients with marked dysplasia underwent clinical examination. Various schemes of treatment and long-term results were evaluated. Rationale for all-round examination and individually-tailored schemes of treatment is discussed. The data on the end results in 150 untreated cases of dysplasia are presented. The importance of detection and treatment of dysplasia in the control of cervical cancer is suggested.

ABSTRACT

Within a period of 1966-1970 in the three republics according to standardized indices for 100.000 females cancer of the female genitalia was found in 42.32 (in Georgia--29.1; in Kazakhstan--43.02; in Latvia--54.85). Dynamically, there was noted a stabilization of indices on cervial cancer and growth in ovarian and, especially, endometrial cancer incidence. In dynamics there is an "ageing" of cancer of the female gentalia.

ABSTRACT

To treat ovarian cancer of stage III-IV the authors have used an antimetabolite-fluorafur. A total dosage of 17-23 g. "marked improvement" was noted in 15 patients, "insignificant improvement" - in 9, there was no improvement in one case. It was found that the level of FSH excretion was reduced twice under the influence of fluorafur, the greater decrease corresponding to a better clinical effect. The drug used in doses applied by the authors, proved to be nontoxic.
