ABSTRACT

This study compared the biocompatibility in vitro and the osseointegration in vivo of zirconium and titanium implants regarding implant surfaces and the bone-implant contacts. The different implant surfaces and the biocompatibility of zirconium versus titanium implants were determined by vitality and cytotoxic tests in vitro. The contact of the osteoblasts to the implant surface was determined by scanning electron microscopy (SEM). The in vivo study for osseointegration was performed in domestic pigs over 4 and 12 weeks. In each animal, 4 zirconium and 4 titanium implants (WhiteSky, BlueSky, Bredent, Germany) were inserted in the os frontale and analysed by histomorphometry. Cytotoxicity and SEM showed good biocompatibility in relation to the investigated implant materials. Histological results showed direct bone-implant contact of the implant surfaces. The zirconium implants showed a slight delay in osseointegration in terms of bone-implant contact as measured by histomorphometry (after 4 weeks, zirconium (59.3 ± 4.6%) versus titanium (64.1 ± 3.9%); after 12 weeks, zirconium (67.1 ± 2.3%) versus titanium (73.6 ± 3.2%). A statistically significant difference between the two groups was not observed. The results indicated similar biocompatibility and osseointegration for zirconium compared to titanium implants.

ABSTRACT

Retropubic colposuspension (RC) is one of leading surgical treatments of stress enuresis in women. A low-traumatic method of RC with application of special surgical instruments is proposed. Retropubic urethrocervicopexy and low-invasive colposuspension were made in 27 and 17 women, respectively. 25 women have undergone endoscopic operations. Postoperative complications were minimal in endoscopic and low-invasive interventions. Long-term results were similar to literature data. Low-invasive colposuspension is an effective and low-traumatic treatment of stress enuresis in women.

ABSTRACT

The authors provide information concerning an experimental model of a suturing instrument for the formation of linear biliodigestive anastomoses, by means off which the communications are created in different parts of the ducts, even the intrahepatic ducts, 5 mm or more in diameter. The instrument was used in operations on 29 patients who had cicatricial stenosis of the major duodenal papilla, carcinoma of the pancreas or ducts in the region of the porta hepatis. The instrument is universal in range and can be used for the creation of various types of biliodigestive anastomoses, it makes the operative techniques simpler and more reliable. Complications associated with the use of the instrument did not occur.

ABSTRACT

The topography of the hepatic arteries in the lower half of the hepatoduodenal ligament was studied on 230 human cadavers. In 64.8% of cases the common hepatic artery was, as usual, in the left margin of the hepatoduodenal ligament, in 0.87% it was between the common bile duct and the portal vein i.e. to the right from the latter. The location of the right hepatic artery to the right or to the right and backwards from the common bile duct constitutes a supplementary risk of an accidental lesion of this artery in choledochotomy and drainage of the duct.
