ABSTRACT

Two gold based catalysts supported on ceria prepared by different methods (urea gelation coprecipitation, UGC, and coprecipitation, CP) have been synthesized and tested in the WGS reaction, showing quite different catalytic behaviors. Interestingly, the two catalysts have the same gold loading (3 wt% Au was inserted by deposition-precipitation) and the FTIR spectroscopy of the adsorbed CO revealed the same amount of gold exposed sites. With the aim to elucidate how the preparation method affects the properties of the support, a morphological, structural and textural characterization has been performed by HRTEM, XRD, BET and Raman analyses, as well as FTIR spectroscopy to probe both the Au and the support exposed sites. It was found that the UGC method gave rise to an enhancement of the defectivity of ceria and to an increase of the reactivity under reductive treatment. Further FTIR measurements of adsorbed acetone demonstrated the presence of two kinds of Ce(4+) sites with different coordination, (CUS) Ce(4+) A and (CUS) Ce(4+) B, on the UGC sample. Such sites can influence the catalytic activity, possibly favoring the water dissociation, making ceria prepared by UGC a better support for Au catalysts than the CP-prepared one.

ABSTRACT

The authors have performed an analysis of main indicators of celiac duplex scanning in 180 patients with celiac compression syndrome before operation, during decompression and at the postoperative period. All the patients underwent surgical celiac trunk decompression. The indicators of the intraoperative celiac duplex scanning (stenosis degree, linear peak systolic circulation rate) of the celiac trunk shower hemodynamic reliable stenosis and were sufficiently different from preoperative findings. The stenosis degree and linear peak systolic circulation rate were less during intraoperative examination than before the operation. Intraoperative, duplex canning allowed compressive stenosis of the seliac trunk to be differentatied in some patients from intravasal one (atherosclerosis and arteritis), and its adequate decompression to be performed. When performing the celiac trunk decompression it is thought to be necessary to fulfill its intraoperative ultrasound duplex scanning before and after elimination of the compression.

ABSTRACT

541 workers with long-term history of occupational contact with antibiotics and chemicals were examined by a dermatologist, ENT specialist, neuropathologist, surgeon, ophthalmologist. Many workers complained of occasional skin eruption, rhinitis, skin itching, sneezing, cough, Quincke's edema. Allergic examination revealed the presence of allergic symptoms (allergic dermatitis, itch, vasomotor rhinitis, chronic eczema, obstructive bronchitis, bronchial asthma, Quincke's edema, acute and chronic conjunctivitis) in 98 examinees. Somatic affections are represented by hypertension, chronic hepatitis, ulcer.

ABSTRACT

The effect of drugs on the early and late phases of repeated allergic reactions (RAR) was studied in experiments on rabbits. The action of the drugs was estimated by the number of challenge doses of antigen, endured by survived and dead rabbits, percentage of the animals' death, and by the place of each group on the lethality scale. Diphenhydramine, ouabain and their combinations, silver nitrate (20 mg/kg) and DOCA enhanced whereas histamine, unithiol, cholesterol, and silver nitrate (20 and 0.2 mg/kg) decreased allergization in the period of RAR. The characteristic features of the action of the drugs on RAR were revealed and compared to the first allergic reaction. Qualitative and quantitative differences were shown in the action of different drug doses and combinations on RAR. The authors provide evidence for the possibility of treating allergic diseases by drug administration in a quiet period.

ABSTRACT

A regular medical examination of 234 workers at a chemical pharmaceutical factory was performed. Skin rash, rhinitis and bronchospasm were detected in 7.3% of the examinees. A microthermal method was applied to 69 workers engaged in antibiotic production. In 26% the results were conditionally positive, in 7.6%--sharply positive. Preclinical diagnosis of drug allergy under occupational conditions made it possible to consider properly the problems of effective employment of the workers preserving their working capacity.

ABSTRACT

The presence of the lymphocyte migration inhibition factor consequent upon sensitization of the organism to the antigen of denaturalized protein of the heart muscle was studied in 72 patients with myocardial infarction and in 40 healthy individuals. It was established that the migration inhibition factor appears in the blood 6 hours after the occurrence of myocardial infarction. The migration index is 52 +/- 2% in such patients and no less than 90% in the controls.

ABSTRACT

Humoral and cellular immunological paramaters were studied in 3 groups of patients with ischemic heart disease. A distinct correlation was revealed between these parameters and clinical symptoms of the disease. It was shown that an immunological reconstruction took place already in the ischemic stage of coronarosclerosis. This reconstruction is expressed by the growth of hemagglutinating and precipitating antibody titers, as well as by the emergence of sensitized lymphocytes and excretion of the lymphocyte migration inhibiting factor. The use of various homogenates (a normal or atherosclerotic aorta, an infarctial myocardium) or the nonspecific mitogen PHA showed the presence of a specific antigenoactive complex in the blood of patients with ischemic heart disease. The complex was capable of penetrating and affecting the vascular wall as well as of producing antitissular (antivascular) antibodies which, together with the other factors, can help lipoprotein penetration through the arterial wall to form atheromatous plaques.
