ABSTRACT

Corrosion-resistant steel plays a vital role in marine steel structures. This study developed an SS304/HRB400 stainless-steel-clad rebar for application in a cross-sea bridge in Zhejiang Province. CO2 gas shielded welding was employed in the prefabricated steel structure, with SS304 steel as the welding wire. This study investigated the welding on the corrosion resistance of clad rebars and explored corrosion protection measures for welded joints. The results indicated that refined grains appeared in both stainless steel and carbon steel due to distinct dynamic recrystallization (DRX) during welding. The corrosion resistance, as determined by potentiodynamic polarization curve analysis of the material's interaction with the solution ranked as follows: clad rebar (polished) > clad rebar welding (CRW) > painting the clad rebar after welding (PCRW) > clad rebar (unpolished) > carbon-steel welding (CSW) > carbon-steel bar > cold spraying zinc after clad rebar welding (ZCRW). However, an accelerated corrosion test with four samples for 600 s with a corrosion current of 0.8 A revealed minimal corrosion damage on zinc-coated surfaces. Hence, welding joints for clad steel structures are considered feasible and must be subject to cold zinc spraying after polishing to enhance their corrosion resistance.

ABSTRACT

Motion blur is common in video tracking and detection, and severe motion blur can lead to failure in tracking and detection. In this work, a motion-blur hysteresis phenomenon (MBHP) was discovered, which has an impact on tracking and detection accuracy as well as image annotation. In order to accurately quantify MBHP, this paper proposes a motion-blur dataset construction method based on a motion-blur operator (MBO) generation method and self-similar object images, and designs APSF, a MBO generation method. The optimized sub-pixel estimation method of the point spread function (SPEPSF) is used to demonstrate the accuracy and robustness of the APSF method, showing the maximum error (ME) of APSF to be smaller than others (reduced by 86%, when motion-blur length > 20, motion-blur angle = 0), and the mean square error (MSE) of APSF to be smaller than others (reduced by 65.67% when motion-blur angle = 0). A fast image matching method based on a fast correlation response coefficient (FAST-PCC) and improved KCF were used with the motion-blur dataset to quantify MBHP. The results show that MBHP exists significantly when the motion blur changes and the error caused by MBHP is close to half of the difference of the motion-blur length between two consecutive frames. A general flow chart of visual tracking displacement detection with error compensation for MBHP was designed, and three methods for calculating compensation values were proposed: compensation values based on inter-frame displacement estimation error, SPEPSF, and no-reference image quality assessment (NR-IQA) indicators. Additionally, the implementation experiments showed that this error can be reduced by more than 96%.

ABSTRACT

The existing process for the preparation of cladded rebars is too complicated for large-scale industrial production. Therefore, this paper proposes a 55#/316L rebar preparation method based on vacuum hot rolling. The microstructure and mechanical properties of the composite interface of the rebar, along with the connecting technique, were studied using transmission electron microscopy, X-ray diffraction, and Vickers hardness testing. The obtained results showed that the minimum thickness of the 55#/316L rebar cladding was 0.25 mm, which was twice that of the M 329M/M 329-11 design standard used in the United States of America. Due to the diffusion of carbon, large numbers of second-phase particles were precipitated on the stainless-steel side, which resulted in intergranular chromium depletion. After multi-pass hot rolling, the minimum bonding strength of the composite interface reached 316.58 MPa, which was considerably higher than the specified value of 210 MPa. In addition, we designed three different types of rebar connection joints: sleeve, groove-welded, and bar-welded. According to the tensile test, the bar-welded joint had higher yield strength (385 MPa) and tensile strength (665 MPa) than the base rebar (376.6 MPa and 655 MPa), as well as a very high corrosion resistance.

ABSTRACT

Given the comparatively lower rotational barriers, the catalytic asymmetric construction of axially chiral biaryl structures, especially those containing a five-membered heterocycle, still remains a challenge. Herein, we described a general and modular protocol to access atropisomeric arylpyrazole scaffolds containing a phosphorus unit by a dipeptide phosphonium salt catalyzed reaction involving an oxidative central-to-axial chirality conversion. This reaction features excellent yields and enantioselectivities, broad substrate scope, and a low catalyst loading, delivering axially chiral phosphine compounds.

ABSTRACT

Clad rebar is one of the key structures of marine and construction services. Therefore, it is of great importance to acknowledge the mechanical property parameters of the composite region in the structural integrity evaluation of clad rebar. The different base materials of clad rebar (20MnSiV/316L steel, 35#/316L steel, 45#/316L steel, and 55#/316L steel) are researched in this study. The composite area is further refined, and simultaneously, a refinement model of the composite region of clad rebar is established. In view of the fact that a surface hardness experiment is quite easy to conduct, a proposed method consists of obtaining the mechanical property parameters of materials using the surface hardness test. The mechanical property parameters are acquired; moreover, the relationship between yield stress and surface hardness of the stainless steel clad rebar is set up. We used this method to acquire the mechanical parameters of a composite surface uneven area of clad rebar, and we established a mechanical parameters mathematics model of clad rebar, it is a significant basis for a structural integrity evaluation of cladding materials.

ABSTRACT

Rough- and intermediate-rolled composite billets and finished clad rebars were cut using flying shears. The law of metal rheology and the mechanism of composite interface generation during clad rebar formation were then investigated using metallographic microscopy, electron backscatter diffraction, and scanning electron microscopy. The radial deformation trend of the clad rebars was greater than that of HRB400 rebars and "ears" were more likely to appear during the rolling process. The widths of the decarburization and composite zones and diffusion distances of each element decreased as the cumulative reduction rate increased. Furthermore, as deformation increased, the number of oxides on the composite interface significantly decreased, the proportion of recrystallized grains increased, and the grains became more refined. These changes led to increases in the bond and tensile strengths of the composite interface. According to the research above, the pass filling degree should be within 0.85-0.9 and the cumulative reduction rate should be over 80% when rolling clad rebars.

ABSTRACT

OBJECTIVE: To investigate the effects of sacubitril/valsartan (S/V) on cardiopulmonary function and blood pressure response to exercise during hospitalization in patients with acute myocardial infarction (AMI) based on the cardiopulmonary exercise test (CPET). METHODS: A total of 265 AMI patients were treated with either perindopril or S/V within 24 hours of admission. CPET was completed for all patients before discharge. There were 182 cases in the perindopril group and 83 cases in the S/V group. RESULTS: The proportion of exercise oscillatory ventilation (EOV) was higher in the S/V group than in the perindopril group (10.8% vs 1.6%, X2 = 11.148, P = .001). The resting heart rate (HR), resting diastolic blood pressure (DBP), and warm-up DBP were lower in the S/V group than in the perindopril group (P < .05). The resting systolic blood pressure (SBP) was 9.0 mmHg lower (115.7 ± 17.5 vs 106.7 ± 15.0, P < .001), the SBP during warm-up was 9.5 mmHg lower (124.8 ± 23.7 vs 115.3 ± 22.5,P = .002), the SBP at the anaerobic threshold (AT) was 10.5 mmHg lower (135.3 ± 24.8 vs 127.1 ± 25.1,P = .021),the SBP at max watts was 11.5 mmHg lower (148.9 ± 26.4 vs 137.4 ± 26.4,P = .001), and the SBP during one-minute recovery was 12.3 mmHg lower (146.5 ± 27.1 vs 134.2 ± 24.4, P = .001)in the S/V group than in the perindopril group. The S/V group had a higher oxygen ventilation equivalent and carbon dioxide ventilation equivalent (VE/VCO2) at AT and a lower oxygen uptake-work rate relationship during max watts (P < .05). The differences in the oxygen pulse, stroke volume, peak oxygen uptake (VO2 peak), and VE/VCO2 slope were not statistically significant between the two groups. CONCLUSION: Treatment with S/V was able to reduce the exercise blood pressure in patients with AMI during hospitalization, but did not significantly improve the VO2 peak, VE/VCO2 slope, or exercise tolerance.

ABSTRACT

Optically pure pseudo-natural products (PNPs), particularly exemplified by azabicyclo[3.3.1]nonane molecules and their analogs provide an attractive platform for structure-activity relationship studies, and also lead new compound discovery in drug development. However, there are currently no examples of guiding catalytic asymmetric strategies available to construct such important PN-scaffolds, thus limiting their broad use. Here, we report a general and modular method for constructing these pseudo-natural N-bridged [3.3.1] ring systems via cascade process by bifunctional phosphonium salt/Lewis acid relay catalysis. A wide variety of substrates bearing an assortment of functional groups (59 examples) are compatible with this protocol. Other features include a [3 + 2] cyclization/ring-opening/Friedel-Crafts cascade pathway, excellent reactivities and stereoselectivities, easily available starting materials, step economy and scalability. The obtained enantioenriched products showed potential of preliminary anticancer activities. Insights gained from our studies are expected to advance general efforts towards the catalytic synthesis of challenging even unprecedented chiral PNPs, offering new opportunities for bioactive small-molecule discovery.

ABSTRACT

The blood pump is an implantable device with strict performance requirements. Any effective structural improvement will help to improve the treatment of patients. However, the research of blood pump structure improvement is a complex optimization problem with multiple parameters and objectives. This study takes the splitter blade as the object of structural improvement. Computational fluid mechanics and neural networks are combined in research and optimization. And hydraulic experiments and micro particle image velocimetry technology were used. In the optimization study, the number of blades, axial length and circumferential offset are optimization parameters, and hydraulic performance and hemolytic prediction index are optimization targets. The study analyzes the influence of each parameter on performance and completes the optimization of the parameters. In the results, the optimal parameters of number of blades, axial length ratio, and circumferential offset are 2.6° and 0.41°, respectively. Under optimized parameters, hydraulic performance can be significantly improved. And the results of hemolysis prediction and micro particle image velocimetry experiments reflect that there is no increase in the risk of hemolytic damage. The results of this study provide a method and ideas for improving the structure of the axial spiral blade blood pump. The established optimization method can be effectively applied to the design and research of axial spiral blade blood pumps with complex, high precision, and multiple parameters and targets.

ABSTRACT

In this paper, a method of intelligent identification and data smooth processing of flying flexible joint pivoting center based on machine vision is proposed. The intelligent identification is realized by the following process: first of all the geometric center of the two markers attached to the flying body is located on a straight line at a certain angle to the center-line of the measured pivoting body, secondly then continuous image sampling is carried out by industrial camera when the marker swings with the pivoting body, and image data is transmitted through a data interface to an industrial computer, Finally the image processing module de-noises the image, removes the background and locates the markers to obtain the plane coordinates of the markers in the coordinate system of the test system. The data smooth of obtained coordinates is carried outby Matlab software including the following steps: the coordinates of the mark points detected based on machine vision are optimized to obtain the smooth curve by fitting of the parabola and arc. Then the coordinates of the points on the curve are used to optimize the coordinates of the marked points from measurement. The optimized coordinate values are substituted into the calculation module of pivoting center, so the average pivoting center of the sampling interval of two images is calculated according to the mathematical model to approach the instantaneous pivoting center during the motion of the pivoting body. The result processing module displays and records the curve of pivoting center shift directly and effectively. Finally, it is validated by simulation and experiments that the precision of pivoting center measured by such measuring system is ~0.5%.

ABSTRACT

Background: Immunological failure during pregnancy is considered one of the etiologies of recurrent miscarriage (RM). The decreased production of mixed lymphocyte reaction-blocking factors (MLR-Bf) may play a major role in this condition. Lymphocyte immunotherapy (LIT), which induces the production of MLR-Bf, has been used in treating RM patients since 1984. However, the effectiveness of LIT is currently being heatedly debated. In addition to that, possible changes to the maternal immune system upon induced MLR-Bf production by LIT remains unclear. Objectives: To explore the possible impacts that MLR-Bf may have on the expression of immune biomarkers and pregnancy outcomes, and deduce whether the prevention of miscarriages is possible with LIT or MLR-Bf in RM patients. Materials and Methods: Women with previous early RM (eRM) were enrolled in this retrospective study after they got pregnant again. LIT was implemented before pregnancy and during the first trimester. MLR-Bf and immune biomarkers were checked as the clinical routine. Patients were followed up until 12 gestational weeks. Levels of immune biomarkers and successful pregnancy rates were compared between MLR-Bf- group and MLR-Bf+ group stratified by LIT. Independent associations between LIT, or MLR-Bf, and miscarriage were estimated. All data management and analysis were conducted using SPSS 20.0. Results: A total of 1,038 patients, 497 MLR-Bf- (49 cases accepted LIT), and 541 MLR-Bf+(463 cases induced by LIT) were included in the study. Percentage of lymphocytes, the ratio of CD4+ T cells/lymphocytes, and levels of some rheumatoid biomarkers (anti-U1-nRNP, anti-SAA-52kd, and anti-CENOP B) were statistically higher in MLR-Bf+ group than in MLR-Bf- group among women without LIT. With LIT treatment the successful pregnancy rate was statistically higher in MLR-Bf+ group than in MLR-Bf- group (66.7% vs. 51.0%, P = 0.028) among women with LIT. Meanwhile, LIT was estimated to have an independent negative association with miscarriage. Conclusion: Upon LIT treament levels of immune biomarkers were different in women with and without MLR-Bf when stratified by whether they received LIT. Not MLR-Bf, but LIT, has an independent protective effect on miscarriage.

ABSTRACT

Due to the importance of safety detection of the drum's rope arrangement in the ultra-deep mine hoist and the current situation whereby the speed, accuracy and robustness of rope routing detection are not up to the requirements, a novel machine-vision-detection method based on the projection of the drum's edge is designed in this paper. (1) The appropriate position of the point source corresponding to different reels is standardized to obtain better projection images. (2) The corresponding image processing and edge curve detection algorithm are designed according to the characteristics of rope arrangement projection. (3) The Gaussian filtering algorithm is improved to adapt to the situation that the curve contains wavelet peak noise when extracting the eigenvalues of the edge curve. (4) The DBSCAN (density-based spatial clustering of applications with noise) method is used to solve the unsupervised classification problem of eigenvalues of rope arrangement, and the distance threshold is calculated according to the characteristics of this kind of data. Finally, we can judge whether there is a rope arranging fault just through one frame and output the location and number of the fault. The accuracy and robustness of the method are verified both in the laboratory and the ultra-deep mine simulation experimental platform. In addition, the detection speed can reach 300 fps under the premise of stable detection.

ABSTRACT

Background: Female Genital Tract (FGT) is an important micro-ecological area of human body. Microbiota in the lower reproductive tract may subsequently invade the uterine cavity during embryo implantation and produce immune responses. CBA/J×DBA/2 mating combination has been widely used as an abortion-prone mice model but whether microbiota existed in their uterine cavity remains unclear. In this context, the role of the microbial communities in immune response deserves attention. Objective: To investigate the relationship between the distribution of microbiota in the uterine cavity of CBA/J×DBA/2 abortion-prone mouse model and the immune imbalance of the maternal-fetal interface. Methods: In this study, female CBA/J mice were paired with male DBA/2 mice to develop an abortion-prone model (BA group), and with male BALB/c mice to build a standard pregnancy model (BC group). The non-pregnant female mice were served as the control group (C group). Uterine flushing fluid and sera were collected on day 13.5 of pregnancy. 16S rRNA sequencing technology was used to analyze the distribution of intrauterine microbiota. Phylogenetic Investigation of Communities were conducted to predict the microbiota functions by Reconstruction of Unobserved States (PICRUST) and Kyoto Encyclopedia of Genes and Genomes (KEGG). The serum IL 10, INF-γ, and TNF-α levels were examined using Enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA) method. Results: All samples were detected with microbial communities. The α diversity (p = 0.00077) had significant differences among three groups. Proteobacteria was the most dominant phylum in C group (mean = 83.21%) and BA group (mean = 43.23%). Firmicutes was dominant in BC group (mean = 46.4%), as well as the second dominant one in C group (mean = 12.63%) and BA group (mean = 40.55%). Microbiota functions were associated with metabolism and immune response through the NOD-like receptor signaling pathway. The serum IL 10 level in BA group were significantly lower than that in BC group (10.14 ± 1.90 pg/ml, n = 8; vs. 19.03 ± 1.82 pg/ml, n = 10; p = 0.004). The serum TNF-α and INF-γ level in BA group were also significantly higher than that in BC group (523.1 ± 58.14 pg/ml, n = 8 vs. 310.3 ± 28.51 pg/ml, n = 10, p = 0.0029; 69.22 ± 5.38 pg/ml, n = 8 vs. 50.85 ± 2.45 pg/ml, n = 10, p = 0.0042). Conclusion: Microbial communities were colonized in uterine cavity of CBA/J mice both at non-pregnant stage and pregnant stage when mated with both BALB/c and DBA/2 male mice. The differentially abundant microbiome may be attributed to the immune tolerance through binding to the NOD-like receptor.

ABSTRACT

Shear stress is often present in the blood flow within blood-contacting devices, which is the leading cause of hemolysis. However, the simulation method for blood flow with shear stress is still not perfect, especially the multiphase flow model and experimental verification. In this regard, this study proposes an enhanced discrete phase model for multiphase flow simulation of blood flow with shear stress. This simulation is based on the discrete phase model (DPM). According to the multiphase flow characteristics of blood, a virtual mass force model and a pressure gradient influence model are added to the calculation of cell particle motion. In the experimental verification, nozzle models were designed to simulate the flow with shear stress, varying the degree of shear stress through different nozzle sizes. The microscopic flow was measured by the Particle Image Velocimetry (PIV) experimental method. The comparison of the turbulence models and the verification of the simulation accuracy were carried out based on the experimental results. The result demonstrates that the simulation effect of the SST k-ω model is better than other standard turbulence models. Accuracy analysis proves that the simulation results are accurate and can capture the movement of cell-level particles in the flow with shear stress. The results of the research are conducive to obtaining accurate and comprehensive analysis results in the equipment development phase.

ABSTRACT

A highly enantiodivergent organocatalytic method is disclosed for the synthesis of atropisomeric biaryls via kinetic resolution inspired by a dipeptide-phosphonium salt-catalyzed Atherton-Todd (A-T) reaction. This flexible approach led to both R- and S-enantiomers by fine-tuning of bifunctional phosphonium with excellent selectivity factors (s) of up to 1057 and 525, respectively. The potential of newly synthesized O-phosphorylated biaryl diols was illustrated by the synthesis of axially chiral organophosphorus compounds. Mechanistic investigations suggest that the bifunctional phosphonium halide catalyst differentiates between the in-situ-generated P-species in the A-T process, mainly involving phosphoryl chloride and phosphoric anhydride, thus leading to highly enantiodivergent O-phosphorylation reactions. Furthermore hydrogen bonding interactions between the catalysts and phosphorus molecules were crucial in asymmetric induction.

ABSTRACT

BACKGROUND Premature labor is an important cause of infant death and long-term disability. This study aimed to explore the safety and effectiveness of combining the tocolytic agents atosiban and ritodrine to extend gestation. MATERIAL AND METHODS The study included 52 patients with late threatened abortion and threatened premature labor between 20°â¸7 and 336⸍7 weeks' gestation who were administrated continuous tocolytic agents for 48 h. Patients were divided into a research group receiving ritodrine combined with atosiban, owing to having no response to ritodrine alone (n=30), and a control group receiving ritodrine alone (n=22). The mean infusion rate and duration of tocolytic administration, gestation extension, pregnancy outcomes, and adverse effects were recorded. Routine blood tests, including C-reactive protein, and cultures for leukorrhea, candida, and mycoplasma were performed before and 1 week after treatment. RESULTS Patients receiving ritodrine with atosiban had a mean gestation extension of 42.53±31.70 days. The extension of gestation of the research group was statistically shorter than that of the control group (P<0.05). The fetal loss rate, newborn birth weight, and Apgar score at 1 min were similar between the 2 groups (all, P>0.05). The research group had a lower incidence of palpitations than the control group (P<0.05). CONCLUSIONS For patients with late threatened abortion or threatened premature labor not controlled with ritodrine alone, ritodrine combined with atosiban extends gestation and improves pregnancy outcomes. For patients with abnormal uterine contractions, routine testing for reproductive tract infection should be performed. When infection is present, anti-infective therapy should be administered.

ABSTRACT

Multifunctional sensing devices with high flexibility, high sensitivity, and scalable fabrication are inevitable components of Internet of Things (IoT) for human-machine interfaces, structural health monitoring, and soft robots. Herein, high-performance flexible sensor arrays using carboxymethylcellulose (CMC) and its composite were developed for mechanical and thermal stimuli detection by laser direct writing. CMC contains abundant carbon precursors for strain-sensitive laser-carbonized CMC (LC-CMC), while the incorporation of graphene oxide (GO) into CMC leads to the formation of thermal-sensitive laser-carbonized GO/CMC (LC-GO/CMC). The LC-CMC-based strain sensor delivers gauge factors of 487.7 (strain < 8.5%) and 8557 (8.5% < strain < 14%), with long-term stability over 10 000 cycles. With 0.2 wt % GO, the LC-GO/CMC-based device provides a temperature coefficient of resistance of -0.289% °C -1, higher than the Cr-based commercial sensor. The potential application of the devices in IoT is proved by combining the near-field communication technology with the LC-CMC-based device to monitor the strain suffered by 316L stainless steel during the fatigue test. Moreover, an integrated device based on the strain and temperature sensing arrays accomplishes the simultaneous measurement of temperature and mechanical deformation in real time.

ABSTRACT

BACKGROUND: Epidemiological studies have revealed that sulfur dioxides (SO2) can increase the risk of pregnancy complications such as missed abortion in the first trimester, stillbirth, preterm birth, small for gestational age, gestational diabetes mellitus and preeclampsia, but the mechanisms underlying these findings remains unknown. What is known, however, is that trophoblasts, a type of fetal cell exerting vital immunologic functions to maintain a successful pregnancy, are usually involved in the pathogenic mechanism of pregnancy complications. OBJECTIVE: To study the effect of SO2 derivatives (bisulfite and sulfite, 1:3 M/M) on the function of trophoblasts. METHODS: Swan.71 trophoblast cells were treated with various concentrations of SO2 derivatives to determine the effect of SO2 derivatives on cellular viability by CKK8. Flow cytometry was performed to analyze the effect of SO2 derivatives on apoptosis, cell cycle and intracellular ROS. Wound healing assay and transwell assay were conducted to examine the migration and invasion of Swan.71 cells. Inflammation-related cytokines in the supernatant (IL-1ß, IL-6, IL-8, IL-10 and TNF-α) were measured by IMMULITE®1000 Systems (SIEMENS). The expression level of NLRP3, Caspase1, MMP9, MMP2, STAT3, and p-STAT3 were evaluated by Western Blotting. RESULTS: Exposure to SO2 derivatives significantly decreased cellular viability, arrested cell cycle at S/G2/M phase and induced cell apoptosis of Swan.71 trophoblasts. In addition, the migration and invasion of Swan.71 cell were significantly inhibited. SO2 derivatives also significantly increased IL-1ß secretion while it is NLRP3/Caspase1 independent. IL-6 secretion was significant inhibited accompanied by decreased STAT3 phosphorylation and expression of MMP2 and MMP9. The intracellular ROS level was significantly suppressed by SO2 derivatives. CONCLUSION: SO2 derivatives exert toxic effects on trophoblasts which results in: suppressing cellular viability and intracellular ROS level, interfering with cell proliferation through arresting cell cycle, inducing cell apoptosis, disturbing inflammation-related cytokines secretion and inhibiting motility. Decreased ROS/IL-6/STAT3 levels play a role in inhibited cell viability, cell cycle arrest, apoptosis and defective motility.

ABSTRACT

The blood pump is a medical device used to assist or replace the diseased heart. Research on the structure of blood pumps has been committed to achieving better hemolysis and hydraulic performance. The purpose of this study was to find some effective ways to improve design methods and hydraulic structures. The research contents of improvement include: (1) improved blade streamline design method; (2) conical impeller hub; (3) additional auxiliary blades. Characteristic analysis and parameter design were carried out on the above three aspects. The methods used in this study included Dynamics (CFD) simulation, hydraulic experiments, and Particle Image Velocimetry (PIV) experiments. The results showed that this improved streamline design method could improve the distortion of blades and ensure a smaller impeller length. And, in the enhanced design of the hub, it is designed to be conical with inlet and outlet diameters of 7.5 and 12.8 mm, respectively. Furthermore, the auxiliary blades between the main blades are analyzed and designed. The results have the best performance optimization effect when the length of the auxiliary blades is 55% of the main blades. In general, the structural improvements in this study achieved the effect of improving hydraulic performance and avoiding increased hemolysis. These methods can be considered as an effective means of improving blood pump performance.
