ABSTRACT

Objectives: Previous studies have highlighted associations between certain inflammatory cytokines and Ménière's Disease (MD), such as interleukin (IL) -13 and IL-1ß. This Mendelian randomization aims to comprehensively evaluate the causal relationships between 91 inflammatory cytokines and MD. Methods: A comprehensive two-sample Mendelian randomization (MR) analysis was conducted to determine the causal association between inflammatory cytokines and MD. Utilizing publicly accessible genetic datasets, we explored causal links between 91 inflammatory cytokines and MD risk. Comprehensive sensitivity analyses were employed to assess the robustness, heterogeneity, and presence of horizontal pleiotropy in our findings. Results: Our findings indicate that MD causally influences the levels of two cytokine types: IL-10 (P=0.048, OR=0.945, 95%CI =0.894~1.000) and Neurotrophin-3 (P=0.045, OR=0954, 95%CI =0.910~0.999). Furthermore, three cytokines exhibited significant causal effects on MD: CD40L receptor (P=0.008, OR=0.865, 95%CI =0.777-0.963), Delta and Notch-like epidermal growth factor-related receptor (DNER) (P=0.010, OR=1.216, 95%CI =1.048-1.412), and STAM binding protein (P=0.044, OR=0.776, 95%CI =0.606-0.993). Conclusion: This study suggests that the CD40L receptor, DNER, and STAM binding protein could potentially serve as upstream determinants of MD. Furthermore, our results imply that when MD is regarded as the exposure variable in MR analysis, it may causally correlate with elevated levels of IL-10 and Neurotrophin-3. Using these cytokines for MD diagnosis or as potential therapeutic targets holds great clinical significance.

ABSTRACT

Ultrasound combined with low temperature treatment is a new food processing technology. In this study, low temperature, three ultrasound power levels, and their combinations were adopted in the must before fermentation to study their effects on Merlot red wine. The results showed that ultrasound combined with low temperature pretreatment increased the total and monomer contents of anthocyanins and phenols, affected the color of the wine, and significantly increased its antioxidant capacity. In particular, 240 W of ultrasound combined with low temperature pretreatment reduced the bad odors (caprylic acid, benzaldehyde, and 1-ethanol content) and improved the flower and fruit aroma (1-octanol and phenethyl acetate), as well as the aftertaste, thus improving the quality of the wine. Ultrasound combined with low temperature pretreatment positively affected the quality of Merlot red wine.

ABSTRACT

Cation disorder in hydroxide-based perovskites remains relatively under-researched. In this work, novel hydroxide-based perovskite Sn1/3Na2/3Sn(OH)6 was first fabricated by a direct hydrothermal method, and its ability to photodegrade 2,4-dichlorophenol was evaluated. The synthesized photocatalyst is isostructural with MSn(OH)6 (M = Mg, Ca, Sr, Mn, Fe, Co, Ni, or Zn), where the M site is occupied by disordered Sn4+/Na+. Sn1/3Na2/3Sn(OH)6 exhibits outstanding photocatalytic activity under ultraviolet light. Specifically, 99% of 2,4-DCP is photodegraded in 40 min, with approximately 94% of its total chlorine content converted to Cl- anions. Radical trapping experiments indicated that superoxide radical anions (·O2-) play a critical role during the photocatalytic process. Finally, liquid chromatography-tandem mass spectrometry was conducted to monitor the photocatalytic intermediates. Overall, our findings demonstrate that hydroxide-based perovskites with cation disorder show promise for application in photocatalysis.
