ABSTRACT

The authors present the results of a clinical trial of Hexabrix, a new radiopaque low osmolar agent, to be used in visceral catheterization translumbar angiography. Hexabrix was shown to reduce the frequency of side-effects by 40% as compared to triiodinated agents. The new agent causes no marked reactions in intraarterial administration even at a dose over 2 ml/kg. Hexabrix is an agent of choice to be used for patients at risk of angiographic investigation (allergy, advanced age, a severe general condition).

ABSTRACT

Functional digital subtraction sialography with a water soluble radiopaque agent (verografin) made it possible to investigate the structure and functional changes in the salivary glands of 26 patients with a minimum injury of the glands. The method permitted a decrease in a dose of the agent 4 times as compared to routine sialography; the consumption of x-ray film was decreased 5-fold. Digital processing of images helped avoid superimposing of the cranial bone components, improving the quality of images of the salivary glands. The method is indispensable during differential diagnosis, especially at early stages of diseases of the salivary glands.

ABSTRACT

A method of transcutaneous transhepatic injection hepatography with local fine-needle anesthesia was developed. Its informative value is shown in investigations of the intrahepatic veins, lymphatic system and their interrelationships at the sinusoidal level. The method is noninvasive and can be performed in a therapy department. Injection hepatography can be followed by liver biopsy in the same liver segment. The quality of investigation increases with the use of an attachment for computerized radiography.

ABSTRACT

The paper is concerned with original methods of balloon dilatation with high-pressure low-profile balloon catheters of Grüntzig type of pyloric and duodenal stenoses. A new informative method of recording of this procedure and its results with computer for radiography was described. In 10 patients this method was used alone as well as in combination with sparing operation--selective proximal vagotomy. In 80% of cases a positive effect of this procedure was obtained and confirmed by clinical observation and instrumental methods. No complications were noted. Therefore this methods could be recommended for a wider clinical use.

ABSTRACT

The authors have summed up a long-term experience of dilatation of stenosis of the esophagus, stomach, duodenum, biliary and urinary tracts using high-pressure balloon catheters. The procedure and a choice of adequate balloon catheters were optimized. The method was used for a great variety of nosological entities, and long-term therapeutic results (up to 5 yrs) were studied. A high efficacy and relative safety of the procedure was shown.

ABSTRACT

Schemes for the sequence of therapeutic interventions were worked out based on experience in the recognition of 56 pancreatic cavitations (cysts, abscesses), US-assisted diagnostic punctures, 28 external drainages of the cavities (mainly prolonged catheterization), 4 diagnostic and therapeutic transcutaneous wirsungographies. The authors also worked out recommendations for a choice of instruments for prolonged external transcutaneous drainage of pancreatic cysts and abscesses, cleansing of the cavity and its sclerosing, inoperative cystogastrostomy between a cyst and a stomach stent.

ABSTRACT

A statistical investigation of the effectiveness of endoscopic retrograde cholangiography in 223 patients and percutaneous transhepatic cholangiography in 204 patients was performed. In typical cases of obturative jaundice of unclear etiology the endoscopic retrograde cholangiography is recommended to patients with the level of general bilirubin lower than 10 mg%, percutaneous transhepatic cholangiography--to patients with the level higher than 10 mg%.

ABSTRACT

Based on his experience with 170 cholangiographies performed with using transhepatic access and curative measures in the course of cholagiographies the author gives recommendations on modelling certain devices. Characteristics of catheters and endoprostheses for a simple percutaneous external bile elimination, bougieurage and endoprosthesis of dilated bile ducts are given.

ABSTRACT

Vital roentgenocontrast investigation of the pancreatic veins has been performed in 125 selective phlebographies of the portal system performed by means of probing through the skin and hepatic catheterization, as well as by means of blood samples from the pancreatic veins. Standard points of the ostia position of the most constantly revealed veins are demonstrated. Accordance between the veins and the glandular parts they drain is described. This makes it possible to localize with certainty hormonally active neoplasms in the organ.
