ABSTRACT

Key Clinical Message: Pretibial myxedema is a rare skin lesion in Grave's disease, which required topical glucocorticoid administration in long-term treatment. The patient's lesion has shrunk and become flatter than before treatment. Abstract: We present a case of biopsy-verified pretibial myxedema in a 70-year-old male patient with diagnosed hyperthyroidism and no prior history of Graves' disease. Topical corticosteroid and antithyroid drug administration led to successful resolution of the skin lesions. This case emphasizes the importance of considering pretibial myxedema even in atypical presentations of Graves' disease and underscores the value of prompt treatment.

ABSTRACT

Vietnam is an important crossroads within Mainland Southeast Asia (MSEA) and a gateway to Island Southeast Asia, and as such exhibits high levels of ethnolinguistic diversity. However, comparatively few studies have been undertaken of the genetic diversity of Vietnamese populations. In order to gain comprehensive insights into MSEA mtDNA phylogeography, we sequenced 609 complete mtDNA genomes from individuals belonging to five language families (Austroasiatic, Tai-Kadai, Hmong-Mien, Sino-Tibetan and Austronesian) and analyzed them in comparison with sequences from other MSEA countries and Taiwan. Within Vietnam, we identified 399 haplotypes belonging to 135 haplogroups; among the five language families, the sequences from Austronesian groups differ the most from the other groups. Phylogenetic analysis revealed 111 novel Vietnamese mtDNA lineages. Bayesian estimates of coalescence times and associated 95% HPD for these show a peak of mtDNA diversification around 2.5-3 kya, which coincides with the Dong Son culture, and thus may be associated with the agriculturally-driven expansion of this culture. Networks of major MSEA haplogroups emphasize the overall distinctiveness of sequences from Taiwan, in keeping with previous studies that suggested at most a minor impact of the Austronesian expansion from Taiwan on MSEA. We also see evidence for population expansions across MSEA geographic regions and language families.

ABSTRACT

Background:Asthma is a chronic infectious disease of respiratory which affect to health, study, labor and social activities. It can be occur at all age, the rate of incidence of this disease and mortality is increasing. Objectives:This study aims to learn about the clinical features and treatment results in children with asthma admitted into pediatric department, Thai nguyen Central Hospital. Subjects and method: A retrospective study was carried out on 65 asthma children who admitted to Asthma children of Department of Pediatrics, Thai Nguyen Central hospital in order to find the frequency, risks factor, clinical and management ofasthma from 1st January 2004 to 31st December 2006. Results:The asthma rate was 0.81 % among total inpatients and 2.87% among total patients admitted into the Respiratory Department. 30.8% of patients aged from 3 to 6 years old without sex predominance. The children were admitted more often in April, May, September, October and November. Personal and family history of asthma was seen in 70.77% and 35.38%, respectively. The common signs were: cough in 93.9%, coryza in 89.2%, intercostal retraction in 87.7%, wheezing in 80.0%, dyspnea in 66.2%. 4. Management: Bronchodilatator in 100%, antibiotics in 95.4%, corticoid in 76.9%. Improvement was seen in 98.5% and death in 54%. Conclusion: Drugs to lessen cough, phlegm and infusion were not encourage in asthma treatment.

ABSTRACT

The investigation was done in 74 occupational carbon monoxide exposed workers in a coke factory. The result showed that carbon monoxide concentration in some work places was higher than the allowable limit from 1,2 to 5 times. 70,3% workers' indoor environment was polluted by substances coming from factory. These pollution had influence on the health of 47,2% workers (influence on nervous, circulatory, respiratory, digestive systems and anemia etc.). 1,4% of the cases suffered from occupational carbon monoxide chronic clinical poisoning.

ABSTRACT

Our research was carried out on 133 occupational carbon monoxide exposed workers in a metallurgical factory. The results showed that carbon monoxide concentration in some working places was higher than the allowance limit from 1.4 to 5.3 times. 77.2% indoor environment was polluted by substances coming from factory. This pollution had influenced on the health of 35.3% of workers (influence on nervous, circulatory, respiratory, digestive systems and anemia,..) 16.5% of the cases suffered from occupational carbon monoxide chronic clinical poisoning. The occupational acute carbon monoxide poisoned anamnesis at the factory was 7.3%.
