ABSTRACT

OBJECTIVES: To investigate the usefulness of the routinely planned six-week outpatient visit and x-ray in patients treated surgically for the most common upper extremity fractures including clavicle, proximal humerus, humeral shaft, olecranon, radial shaft and distal radius. METHOD: This was a retrospective cohort study of all patients treated surgically for the most common upper extremity fractures between 2019 and 2022 in a level 1 trauma center. The first outcome of interest was the incidence of abnormalities found on the x-ray made at the 6-week outpatient visit. Abnormalities were defined as all differences between the intra-operative (or direct postoperative) and 6-week x-ray. In case an abnormality was detected, the hospital records were screened to determine its clinical consequence. The clinical consequences were categorized into requiring either additional diagnostics, additional interventions, change of standard postoperative immobilization, weightbearing or allowed range of motion (ROM). The second outcome of interest was the incidence of deviations from the local standard post operative treatment and follow-up protocol based on the 6-week outpatient visit as a whole. Deviations were also categorized into either requiring additional diagnostics, additional interventions, change of standard postoperative immobilization, weightbearing or allowed range of motion. RESULTS: A total of 267 patients were included. Abnormalities on x-ray at 6 weeks postoperatively were found in only 10 (3.7%) patients of which only 4 (1.5%) had clinical implications (in three patients extra imaging was required and in one patient it was necessary to deviate from standard weightbearing/ROM limitation regime). The clinical/radiological findings during the 6-week outpatient visit led to a deviation from standard in only 8 (3.0%) patients. Notably, the majority of these patients experienced symptoms suggestive for complications. CONCLUSION: The routine 6-week outpatient visit and x-ray, after surgery for common upper extremity fractures, rarely has clinical consequences. It should be questioned whether these routine visits are necessary and whether a more selective approach should be considered. LEVEL OF EVIDENCE: Level IV; Case Series; Prognosis Study.

ABSTRACT

BACKGROUND: Attractive Targeted Sugar Baits (ATSBs) offer a complementary vector control strategy to interventions targeting blood feeding or larval control by attacking the sugar feeding behaviour of adult mosquitoes using an attract-and-kill approach. Western Zambia was the first location to receive and deploy ATSB Sarabi version 1.2 stations in a Phase III cluster randomized controlled trial. This paper describes ATSB station installation, monitoring, removal, and disposal, quantifies ATSB station coverage, and reports major reasons for ATSB station replacement. METHODS: ATSB stations were deployed during two annual transmission seasons, through scheduled installation and removal campaigns. During deployment, monitoring was conducted per protocol to maintain high coverage of the ATSB stations in good condition. Routine monitoring visits during the trial captured details on ATSB station damage necessitating replacement following pre-defined replacement criteria. Annual cross-sectional household surveys measured ATSB station coverage during peak malaria transmission. RESULTS: A total of 67,945 ATSB stations were installed in Year 1 (41,695 initially installed+ 26,250 installed during monitoring) and 69,494 ATSB stations were installed in Year 2 (41,982 initially installed+ 27,512 installed during monitoring) across 35 intervention clusters to maintain high coverage of two ATSB stations in good condition per eligible household structure. The primary reasons for ATSB station replacement due to damage were holes/tears and presence of mold. Cross-sectional household surveys documented high coverage of ATSB stations across Year 1 and Year 2 with 93.1% of eligible structures having ≥ 2 ATSB stations in any condition. DISCUSSION: ATSB station deployment and monitoring efforts were conducted in the context of a controlled cRCT to assess potential product efficacy. Damage to ATSB stations during deployment required replacement of a subset of stations. High coverage of eligible structures was maintained over the two-year study despite replacement requirements. Additional research is needed to better understand the impact of damage on ATSB station effectiveness under programmatic conditions, including thresholds of threats to physical integrity and biological deterioration on product efficacy. CONCLUSIONS: Optimizing ATSB stations to address causes of damage and conducting implementation research to inform optimal delivery and cost-effective deployment will be important to facilitate scale-up of ATSB interventions.

ABSTRACT

Electron transfer reactions play an essential role in many chemical and biological processes. Fermi's golden rule (GR), which assumes that the coupling between electronic states is small, has formed the foundation of electron transfer rate theory; however, in short range electron/energy transfer reactions, this coupling can become very large, and, therefore, Fermi's GR fails to make even qualitatively accurate rate predictions. In this paper, I present a simple modified GR theory to describe electron transfer in the Marcus inverted regime at arbitrarily large electronic coupling strengths. This theory is based on an optimal global rotation of the diabatic states, which makes it compatible with existing methods for calculating GR rates that can account for nuclear quantum effects with anharmonic potentials. Furthermore, the optimal GR (OGR) theory can also be combined with analytic theories for non-adiabatic rates, such as Marcus theory and Marcus-Levich-Jortner theory, offering clear physical insights into strong electronic coupling effects in non-adiabatic processes. OGR theory is also tested on a large set of spin-boson models and an anharmonic model against exact quantum dynamics calculations, where it performs well, correctly predicting rate turnover at large coupling strengths. Finally, an example application to a boron-dipyrromethane-anthracene photosensitizer reveals that strong coupling effects inhibit excited state charge recombination in this system, reducing the rate of this process by a factor of 4. Overall, OGR theory offers a new approach to calculating electron transfer rates at strong couplings, offering new physical insights into a range of non-adiabatic processes.

ABSTRACT

The Seychelles magpie-robin's (SMR) five island populations exhibit some of the lowest recorded levels of genetic diversity among endangered birds, and high levels of inbreeding. These populations collapsed during the 20th century, and the species was listed as Critically Endangered in the IUCN Red List in 1994. An assisted translocation-for-recovery program initiated in the 1990s increased the number of mature individuals, resulting in its downlisting to Endangered in 2005. Here, we explore the temporal genomic erosion of the SMR based on a dataset of 201 re-sequenced whole genomes that span the past ~150 years. Our sample set includes individuals that predate the bottleneck by up to 100 years, as well as individuals from contemporary populations established during the species recovery program. Despite the SMR's recent demographic recovery, our data reveal a marked increase in both the genetic load and realized load in the extant populations when compared to the historical samples. Conservation management may have reduced the intensity of selection by increasing juvenile survival and relaxing intraspecific competition between individuals, resulting in the accumulation of loss-of-function mutations (i.e. severely deleterious variants) in the rapidly recovering population. In addition, we found a 3-fold decrease in genetic diversity between temporal samples. While the low genetic diversity in modern populations may limit the species' adaptability to future environmental changes, future conservation efforts (including IUCN assessments) may also need to assess the threats posed by their high genetic load. Our computer simulations highlight the value of translocations for genetic rescue and show how this could halt genomic erosion in threatened species such as the SMR.

BACKGROUND: Hip resurfacing arthroplasty (HRA) is an alternative to total hip arthroplasty (THA) that is typically reserved for young active patients because it preserves bone. However, the benefits of HRA only hold true if conversion THA after failed HRA provides acceptable outcomes. AIM: To compare patient reported outcomes for conversion THA after HRA failure to primary THA. METHODS: A retrospective review of 36 patients (37 hips) that underwent conversion THA for failed HRA between October 2006 and May 2019 by a single surgeon was performed. Patient reported outcomes [modified Harris Hip Score (mHHS), University of California Los Angeles (UCLA) activity score] were obtained via an email-based responder-anonymous survey. Outcomes were compared to normative data of a primary THA cohort with similar demographics. Subgroup analysis was performed comparing outcomes of conversion THA for adverse local tissue reaction (ALTR) vs all other causes for failure. RESULTS: The study group had a lower mHHS than the control group (81.7 ± 13.8 vs 90.2 ± 11.6, P < 0.01); however, both groups had similar UCLA activity levels (7.5 ± 2.3 vs 7.2 ± 1.6, P = 0.51). Patients that underwent conversion for non-ATLR causes had similar mHHS (85.2 ± 11.5 vs 90.2 ± 11.6, P = 0.11) and higher UCLA activity levels (8.5 ± 1.8 vs 7.2 ± 1.6, P < 0.01) compared to the control group. Patients that underwent conversion for ATLR had worse mHHS (77.1 ± 14.5 vs 90.2 ± 11.6, P < 0.01) and UCLA activity levels (6.1 ± 2.3 vs 7.2 ± 1.6, P = 0.05) when compared to the control group. CONCLUSION: Patient outcomes equivalent to primary THA can be achieved following HRA conversion to THA. However, inferior outcomes were demonstrated for ALTR-related HRA failure. Patient selection and perhaps further studies examining alternative HRA bearing surfaces should be considered.

ABSTRACT

Background: Parkinson's disease (PD) affects more than 6 million people worldwide. Along with motor impairments, patients and animal models exhibiting PD symptoms also experience cognitive impairment, fatigue, anxiety, and depression. Currently, there are no drugs available for PD that alter the progression of the disease. A body of evidence suggests that increased GABA levels contribute to the reduced expression of tyrosine hydroxylase (TH) and accompanying behavioral deficits. TH expression may be restored by blocking GABAA receptors. We hypothesized that golexanolone (GR3027), a well-tolerated GABAA receptor-modulating steroid antagonist (GAMSA), may improve Parkinson's symptoms in a rat model of PD. Objectives: The aims of this study were to assess whether golexanolone can ameliorate motor and non-motor symptoms in a rat model of PD and to identify some underlying mechanisms. Methods: We used the unilateral 6-OHDA rat model of PD. The golexanolone treatment started 4 weeks after surgery. Motor symptoms were assessed using Motorater and CatWalk tests. We also analyzed fatigue (using a treadmill test), anhedonia (via the sucrose preference test), anxiety (with an open field test), and short-term memory (using a Y maze). Glial activation and key proteins involved in PD pathogenesis were analyzed using immunohistochemistry and Western blot. Results: Rats with PD showed motor incoordination and impaired locomotor gait, increased fatigue, anxiety, depression, and impaired short-term memory. Golexanolone treatment led to improvements in motor incoordination, certain aspects of locomotor gait, fatigue, anxiety, depression, and short-term memory. Notably, golexanolone reduced the activation of microglia and astrocytes, mitigated TH loss at 5 weeks after surgery, and prevented the increase of α-synuclein levels at 10 weeks. Conclusions: Golexanolone may be useful in improving both motor and non-motor symptoms that adversely affect the quality of life in PD patients, such as anxiety, depression, fatigue, motor coordination, locomotor gait, and certain cognitive alterations.

ABSTRACT

INTRODUCTION: Black emerging adults (18-28 years) have the highest risk of short sleep duration and obesity. This increased risk may be partly explained by greater stress levels, which may result from race-related stress (racial discrimination and heightened race-related vigilance) or living in more disadvantaged home and neighbourhood environments. Insufficient sleep may also impact obesity risk via several weight-related mechanisms including energy balance, appetite and food reward, cortisol profiles and hydration status. This paper describes the rationale, design and methods for the Sleep, Health Outcomes and Body Weight (SHOW) study. This study aims to prospectively assess the effects of sleep, race-related stress and home/neighbourhood environments on weight-related mechanisms and obesity markers (body weight, waist circumference and fat mass) in 150 black emerging adults. METHODS AND ANALYSIS: The SHOW study follows a measurement burst design that includes 3, 7-day data collection bursts (baseline, 6-month and 12-month follow-ups). Sleep is measured with three methods: sleep diary, actigraphy and polysomnography. Energy balance over 7 days is based on resting and postprandial energy expenditure measured via indirect calorimetry, physical activity via accelerometry and self-reported and ad libitum energy intake methods. Self-reported methods and blood biomarkers assess fasting and postprandial appetite profiles and a behavioural-choice task measures food reward. Cortisol awakening response and diurnal cortisol profiles over 3 days are assessed via saliva samples and chronic cortisol exposure via a hair sample. Hydration markers are assessed with 24-hour urine collection over 3 days and fasting blood biomarkers. Race-related stress is self-reported over 7 days. Home and neighbourhood environments (via the Windshield Survey) is observer assessed. ETHICS AND DISSEMINATION: Ethics approval was granted by the University of North Carolina at Greensboro's Institutional Review Board. Study findings will be disseminated through peer-reviewed publications, presentations at scientific meetings and reports, briefs/infographics for lay and community audiences.

OBJECTIVE: To compare salivary flow rates between females and males, before and after radiation therapy (RT) for head and neck cancer (HNC). METHODS: Prospective observational multicenter cohort study (OraRad). Stimulated whole salivary flow was measured before RT and at 6 and 18 months after RT. RESULTS: Mean (95% confidence interval) salivary flow in g/min before RT was 0.81 (0.71, 0.90) in females (n = 107) and 1.20 (1.15, 1.25) in males (n = 391) (p < 0.001); at 6 months was 0.34 (0.24, 0.44) in females and 0.50 (0.44, 0.55) in males (p = 0.01); at 18 months was 0.49 (0.38, 0.59) in females and 0.70 (0.64, 0.75) in males (p < 0.001). Median nadir salivary flow after RT was 0.22 in females and 0.35 in males (p < 0.001). A lower nadir salivary flow in females, but not males, was associated with an increased risk for tooth failure (p = 0.02). CONCLUSIONS: Females with HNC have lower stimulated whole salivary flow than males, before and after RT. Low salivary flow after RT may be a risk factor for tooth failure among females. The lower pre-RT salivary flow rates in females, combined with prior literature in other populations, indicates that, in general, females have lower stimulated salivary flow than males.

OBJECTIVES: To assess artificial intelligence (AI) ability to evaluate intraprostatic prostate cancer (PCa) on prostate-specific membrane antigen positron emission tomography (PSMA PET) scans prior to active treatment (radiotherapy or prostatectomy). MATERIALS AND METHODS: This systematic review was registered on the International Prospective Register of Systematic Reviews (PROSPERO identifier: CRD42023438706). A search was performed on Medline, Embase, Web of Science, and Engineering Village with the following terms: 'artificial intelligence', 'prostate cancer', and 'PSMA PET'. All articles published up to February 2024 were considered. Studies were included if patients underwent PSMA PET scan to evaluate intraprostatic lesions prior to active treatment. The two authors independently evaluated titles, abstracts, and full text. The Prediction model Risk Of Bias Assessment Tool (PROBAST) was used. RESULTS: Our search yield 948 articles, of which 14 were eligible for inclusion. Eight studies met the primary endpoint of differentiating high-grade PCa. Differentiating between International Society of Urological Pathology (ISUP) Grade Group (GG) ≥3 PCa had an accuracy between 0.671 to 0.992, sensitivity of 0.91, specificity of 0.35. Differentiating ISUP GG ≥4 PCa had an accuracy between 0.83 and 0.88, sensitivity was 0.89, specificity was 0.87. AI could identify non-PSMA-avid lesions with an accuracy of 0.87, specificity of 0.85, and specificity of 0.89. Three studies demonstrated ability of AI to detect extraprostatic extensions with an area under curve between 0.70 and 0.77. Lastly, AI can automate segmentation of intraprostatic lesion and measurement of gross tumour volume. CONCLUSION: Although the current state of AI differentiating high-grade PCa is promising, it remains experimental and not ready for routine clinical application. Benefits of using AI to assess intraprostatic lesions on PSMA PET scans include: local staging, identifying otherwise radiologically occult lesions, standardisation and expedite reporting of PSMA PET scans. Larger, prospective, multicentre studies are needed.

ABSTRACT

We introduce a general definition of a quantum committor in order to clarify reaction mechanisms and facilitate control in processes where coherent effects are important. With a quantum committor, we generalize the notion of a transition state to quantum superpositions and quantify the effect of interference on the progress of the reaction. The formalism is applicable to any linear quantum master equation supporting metastability for which absorbing boundary conditions designating the reactant and product states can be applied. We use this formalism to determine the dependence of the quantum transition state on coherences in a polaritonic system and optimize the initialization state of a conical intersection model to control reactive outcomes, achieving yields of the desired state approaching 100%. In addition to providing a practical tool, the quantum committor provides a conceptual framework for understanding reactions in cases when classical intuitions fail.

ABSTRACT

Holo-omics refers to the joint study of non-targeted molecular data layers from host-microbiota systems or holobionts, which is increasingly employed to disentangle the complex interactions between the elements that compose them. We navigate through the generation, analysis, and integration of omics data, focusing on the commonalities and main differences to generate and analyze the various types of omics, with a special focus on optimizing data generation and integration. We advocate for careful generation and distillation of data, followed by independent exploration and analyses of the single omic layers to obtain a better understanding of the study system, before the integration of multiple omic layers in a final model is attempted. We highlight critical decision points to achieve this aim and flag the main challenges to address complex biological questions regarding the integrative study of host-microbiota relationships.

ABSTRACT

Granular cell tumour is a rare, mostly benign, soft tissue, neuroectodermal tumour, most commonly seen in the skin and peripheral soft tissue. There are no publications to date of PSMA-PET avidity in a granular cell tumour. In this 60 year old male, staging PSMA-PET for a localized intermediate risk prostate cancer incidentally identified a PSMA-avid left supraspinatus lesion, which was subsequently biopsy-proven as a granular cell tumour. We present the first case of PSMA-avid granular cell tumour and add to the growing literature documenting PSMA-PET avidity in benign and malignant lesions apart from prostate cancer.

ABSTRACT

Although amplification/overexpression is the predominant mechanism for the oncogenic properties of MDM2, an increasing number of MDM2 somatic missense mutations were identified in cancer patients with the recent advances in sequencing technology. Here, we characterized an MDM2 cancer-associated mutant variant W329G identified from a patient sample that contains a wild-type p53 gene. Trp329 is one of residues that were reported to be critical to MDM2's binding to ribosomal protein L11 (RPL11). We found that the MDM2 W329G mutant was resistant to the inhibitory effect of RPL11 on MDM2-mediated p53 ubiquitination and degradation, in line with its defect on RPL11 binding. Using isogenic U2OS cells with or without endogenous MDM2 W329G mutation, we demonstrated that the expression of classic p53 targets induced by ribosomal stress signals was reduced in mutant cells. RNA-seq analysis revealed that upon 5-FU treatment, the p53 response was significantly impaired. Also, the 5-FU-mediated repression of genes in cell cycle progression and DNA replication was diminished in W329G mutant-containing cells. Physiologically, U2OS W329G cells were more resistant to cell growth inhibition induced by ribosomal stress and exhibited higher glycolytic rates upon 5-FU treatment. Together, our data indicated that cancer-associated MDM2 W329G mutant attenuates ribosomal stress-mediated p53 responses to promote cell survival and glycolysis.

Patients admitted to a pediatric intensive care unit (PICU) need individualized nutrition support that is tailored to their particular disease severity, nutritional status, and therapeutic interventions. We aim to evaluate how calories and proteins are provided during the first seven days of hospitalization for children in critical condition with organ dysfunction (OD). A single-center retrospective cohort study of children aged 2-18 years, mechanically ventilated > 48 h, and admitted > 7 days to a PICU from 2016 to 2017 was carried out. Nutrition support included enteral and parenteral nutrition. We calculated scores for the Pediatric Sequential Organ Failure Assessment (pSOFA) on days 1 and 3 of admission, with OD defined as a score > 5. Of 4199 patient admissions, 164 children were included. The prevalence of OD for days 1 and 3 was 79.3% and 78.7%, respectively. On day 3, when pSOFA scores trended upward, decreased, or remained unchanged, median (IQR) caloric intake was 0 (0-15), 9.2 (0-25), and 22 (1-43) kcal/kg/day, respectively (p = 0.0032); when pSOFA scores trended upward, decreased, or remained unchanged, protein intake was 0 (0-0.64), 0.44 (0-1.25), and 0.66 (0.04-1.67) g/kg/day, respectively (p = 0.0023). Organ dysfunction was prevalent through the first 72 h of a PICU stay. When the pSOFA scores trended downward or remained unchanged, caloric and protein intakes were higher than those that trended upward.

ABSTRACT

The literature on the nutritional needs and outcomes of critically ill children is scarce, especially on those with critical neurological illnesses (CNIs). Current evidence shows a lower mortality in patients who achieve two-thirds of their nutritional needs during the first week of pediatric intensive care unit (PICU) admission. We hypothesized that achieving 60% of the recommended dietary intake during the first week of a PICU stay is not feasible in patients with CNI. We designed an observational retrospective cohort study where we included all index admissions to the PICU in our institution of children (1 month to 18 years) with CNI from January 2018 to June 2021. We collected patient demographics, anthropometric measures, and caloric and protein intake (enteral and parenteral) information during the first week of PICU admission. Goal adequacy for calories and protein was defined as [(intake/recommended) × 100] ≥ 60%. A total of 1112 patients were included in the nutrition assessment, 12% of whom were underweight (weight for age z score < -2). Of this group, 180 met the criteria for nutrition support evaluation. On the third day of admission, 50% of the patients < 2 years achieved caloric and protein goal adequacy, compared to 25% of patients > 2 years, with p-values of 0.0003 and 0.0004, respectively. Among the underweight patients, 60% achieved both caloric and protein goal adequacy by day 3 vs. 30% of non-underweight patients with p-values of 0.0006 and 0.002, respectively. The results show that achieving 60% of the recommended dietary intake by days 5 and 7 of admission was feasible in more than half of the patients in this cohort. Additionally, children who were evaluated by a clinical dietician during the first 48 h of PICU admission reached higher nutrition adequacy.

BACKGROUND: Research on hip instability has focused on establishing "safe" ranges of combined component position in supine posture or functional placement of the acetabular component based on the hip-spine relationship. A new angle, the polar axis angle (PAA), of the total hip arthroplasty (THA) components describes the concentricity of both components and can be evaluated in functional positions that confer a greater risk of instability (i.e., sitting). The goal of this study was to compare the polar axis angle in functional positions between patients who experienced a postoperative dislocation, and a matched control group who did not have a dislocation. METHODS: An institutional database was searched for patients experiencing a dislocation after primary THA. Patients who had postoperative full-length standing and seated lateral radiographs were included in the dislocator group. A control group of non-dislocator patients was matched 2:1 by age, body mass index (BMI), sex, and hip-spine classification. Radiographic measurements of the neck angle, acetabular ante-inclination, and polar axis angle (PAA) were performed by two separate blinded, trained reviewers. RESULTS: The lateral seated neck angle and lateral seated polar axis angle measurements were significantly lower in the dislocator groups (n = 37) when compared with the control group (n = 74) (23 versus 33 degrees, P < 0.001; 74 versus 83 degrees, P = 0.012, respectively). Significant differences were also observed in changes in the polar axes and neck angles between standing and seated positions (P < 0.001 and P < 0.001, respectively). When comparing patients who have mobile spines versus stiff spines within the dislocator group, there were no differences in the acetabular, neck, or polar axis angles. The effect of neck angle on the polar axis angle showed a linear trend across cohorts. CONCLUSIONS: Patients who experience postoperative instability have a significantly lower polar axis angle on lateral seated radiographs when matched for age, sex, BMI, and hip-spine classification. In addition, the lower seated polar axis angle is driven more strongly by decreased functional femoral anteversion, which emphasizes the role of functional femoral version on stability in THA.

ABSTRACT

We enrolled 21 patients with laboratory-confirmed yellow fever (YF), hospitalized at Eduardo de Menezes Hospital, Brazil, to be treated with sofosbuvir, a drug approved for hepatitis C. Given the absence of specific YF antiviral treatments, the off-label nonrandomized sofosbuvir treatment aimed to address high disease severity and the risk of fatal outcomes. Patients received a daily dose of 400 mg sofosbuvir from 4 to 10 days post-symptom onset. YF viral load (VL) comparisons were made between treated and nontreated patients who either survived or died. The genomic VL for the treated group steadily decreased after day 7 post-symptom onset, suggesting that sofosbuvir might reduce YF VL. This study underscores the urgent need for YF antiviral therapies, advocating for randomized clinical trials to further explore sofosbuvir's role in YF treatment.

ABSTRACT

Oxygen homeostasis is maintained in plants and animals by O2-sensing enzymes initiating adaptive responses to low O2 (hypoxia). Recently, the O2-sensitive enzyme ADO was shown to initiate degradation of target proteins RGS4/5 and IL32 via the Cysteine/Arginine N-degron pathway. ADO functions by catalysing oxidation of N-terminal cysteine residues, but despite multiple proteins in the human proteome having an N-terminal cysteine, other endogenous ADO substrates have not yet been identified. This could be because alternative modifications of N-terminal cysteine residues, including acetylation, prevent ADO-catalysed oxidation. Here we investigate the relationship between ADO-catalysed oxidation and NatA-catalysed acetylation of a broad range of protein sequences with N-terminal cysteines. We present evidence that human NatA catalyses N-terminal cysteine acetylation in vitro and in vivo. We then show that sequences downstream of the N-terminal cysteine dictate whether this residue is oxidised or acetylated, with ADO preferring basic and aromatic amino acids and NatA preferring acidic or polar residues. In vitro, the two modifications appear to be mutually exclusive, suggesting that distinct pools of N-terminal cysteine proteins may be acetylated or oxidised. These results reveal the sequence determinants that contribute to N-terminal cysteine protein modifications, with implications for O2-dependent protein stability and the hypoxic response.
