ABSTRACT

Chronic abuse of anabolic steroids is widespread. Hypertrophy of skeletal and heart muscle is a well-known effect of chronic anabolic steroid abuse. Structural alterations of blood vessels are new side effects. We report a case of a 32-year-old bodybuilder after long-term use of anabolic steroids who died of cardiac arrest. Coronary angiography and autopsy findings showed especially a hypertrophic heart, structural changes of coronary arteries, intracoronary thrombosis and myocardial infarction, ventricular thrombosis and systemic embolism

ABSTRACT

We report the case of a 29-year-old female who suffers for more than 13 years from Crohn's disease. A small bowel resection had to be performed because of a complicated and insufficiently controlled course of the disease with beginning subileus. At laparotomy a leiomyosarcoma was found. This case represents the forth case in the literature of an association between chronic inflammatory bowel disease and malign mesenchymal tumors. Tumors of epithelial and lymphoreticular origin are known as a much more common complication in Crohn's disease and especially ulcerative colitis. An exact histological characterization of these sarcomas is important to define the prognosis of the disease. If recurrent subileus is poorly controlled in Crohn's disease stromal tumors with their frequent intraluminal growth have to be considered as part of the differential diagnosis.

ABSTRACT

The regulary participation in a jogging-group is a one possibility to do sports under professional surveillance with positive effects of the cardiovascular system. On the other side, the implications of doing sports on the risk of sudden death are debatable. The first jogging-groups were formed twenty-seven years ago in Darmstadt. There were only four serious cardiovascular events ( three deadly) in twenty-seven years. There are several groups for different trained persons, so it's possible to start at all stages of fitness. In addition there are no fees.
