ABSTRACT

OBJECTIVE: The aim: To investigate the influence of serological markers of blood groups of the AB0 system upon the development of short-term visual memory in high schoolers and students. PATIENTS AND METHODS: Materials and methods: The research involved 13-16-year-old high schoolers (boys) (n = 139) who were involved in various sports: group A - speed and strength sports (n = 74); group B - endurance sports (n = 65). The control group consisted of 13-16-year-old high schoolers (n = 106) and 17-20-year-old students (n = 212) who were not engaged in sports. The study of short-term visual memory was conducted using the "Memory for geometric shapes" method. RESULTS: Results: It was found that high schoolers and students with the 0(I) blood group have the best associative coupling with the properties of short-term visual memory. CONCLUSION: Conclusions: The use of serological markers of blood groups according to the AB0 system is possible in the genetic prediction of the development of visual memory in high schoolers and students. Herewith, the associative coupling is more pronounced in juvenility than in adolescence.

OBJECTIVE: The aim is to investigate the state of health of the students of Ukrainian higher education institutions. PATIENTS AND METHODS: Materials and methods: The study of state of health was conducted at Polissia National University and Zhytomyr Ivan Franko State University in 2008-2019. The results of a medical examination of 3737 students of different faculties between the ages of 17 and 22 were examined. Medical examinations were conducted by the doctors of the medical centers of universities. Totally 1208 pupils (male and female) of the schools of Zhytomyr region were involved in the questionnaire, which was conducted to analyze the attendance of physical education classes by pupils while studying at school. 648 students of Polissia National University participated in the study of the self-assessment of their own health, causes, and structure of disease incidence, the dynamics of the loss of labor capacity. RESULTS: Results: It was established that from 24 to 30.8 % of the students had diseases and a low level of physical development that indicated a low level of physical education at schools. It was revealed that the number of sick students was increasing during the study at higher educational institutions (HEI) that led to missing classes. Besides, up to 35.5 % of students had health disorders and belonged to a special medical group. And 1.7 % of the students had chronic diseases and disabilities and were exempted from sports. It was found that physical education and sports took the 5th place in the system of life values of male students and the 12th place in the system of life values of female students. CONCLUSION: Conclusions:Physical education, aimed at enhancing the functional capacity of an organism, the development of physical qualities, the improvement of the special physical and technical readiness in the sphere of physical activity types and the acquisition of professionally applied skills and abilities, is the basis for strengthening the health of students of Ukraine.

ABSTRACT

OBJECTIVE: The aim: Is to investigate the bad habits of the students of higher education institutions and their impact on health. PATIENTS AND METHODS: Materials and methods: The research of the students' bad habits was conducted at Polissia National University and Zhytomyr Ivan Franko State University in 2014-2019. 647 students of different specialties between the ages of 17 and 23 were interviewed. The research methods included theoretical methods (the analysis and generalization of literary sources, the evaluation of the quality of students' performance in classes, the study and analysis of the medical records of students); empirical methods (pedagogical observations, questionnaires, surveys); the methods of mathematical statistics. RESULTS: Results: The study found that 32.4 % of male students and 14.9 % of female students smoke. It was defined that male students of the special education department smoke the most - 37.7 %; 32.5 % and 27.1 % of the male students of the main and sports departments smoke respectively. Among female students, 18.4 % of the students of the sports department, 14.6 % - of the main department and 13.4 % - of the special department smoke. The study determined that 2.7 % of both male and female students of the first year of study drink alcohol almost every day, 3.7 % - 2-3 times a week, 18.2 % - once a week, 66.0 % - only on holidays. Besides, the research indicated that some students use drugs. It was found that the students know that smoking, alcohol, and drugs are harmful but cannot or do not want to get rid of these bad habits. CONCLUSION: Conclusions: The study established that the environment of students is unfavorable for the activation of the healthy lifestyle components; it contributes to the spread of bad habits, the consequences of which students do not realize fully. Many students do not have a need to take care of their own health.

ABSTRACT

OBJECTIVE: Introduction: The level of health and physical fitness of the students of Ukrainian higher educational institutions has worsened in recent years. It conditions the search for effective solutions to this problem and determines the significance of the investigation. The aim: To investigate the level of physical development and functional state of the students of agricultural educational institutions during study. PATIENTS AND METHODS: Materials and methods: The investigation was conducted in Zhytomyr National Agroecological University in 2016-2018. Seventy three students (38 male and 35 female students) took part in the investigation. The level of physical development and functional state of students was defined according to the next tests: body length, body weight, wrist dynamometry, lung capacity, heart rate, systolic and diastolic blood pressure. The level of students' physical health was examined according to the methodology by G. L. Apanasenko and determined the interrelation of the levels of physical health of the students of different genders during the investigation. RESULTS: Results: It is determined that the majority of the students' investigated indicators are not improved during the first and the second years of study (p>0.05). The level of the students' physical health remained unchanged during study. Moreover, the health level of both male and female students is rated as low during all stages of the investigation. CONCLUSION: Сonclusions: The conducted analysis proves the necessity of the current physical education system improvement at Ukrainian higher educational institutions in order to improve the students' physical development and functional state, health and efficiency of the educational and future professional activity.
