ABSTRACT

Cell culture is undeniably important for multiple scientific applications, including pharmaceuticals, transplants, and cosmetics. However, cell culture involves multiple manual steps, such as regularly analyzing cell images for their health and morphology. Computer scientists have developed algorithms to automate cell imaging analysis, but they are not widely adopted by biologists, especially those lacking an interactive platform. To address the issue, we compile and review existing open-source cell image processing tools that provide interactive interfaces for management and prediction tasks. We highlight the prediction tools that can detect, segment, and track different mammalian cell morphologies across various image modalities and present a comparison of algorithms and unique features of these tools, whether they work locally or in the cloud. This would guide non-experts to determine which is best suited for their purposes and, developers to acknowledge what is worth further expansion. In addition, we provide a general discussion on potential implementations of the tools for a more extensive scope, which guides the reader to not restrict them to prediction tasks only. Finally, we conclude the article by stating new considerations for the development of interactive cell imaging tools and suggesting new directions for future research.

ABSTRACT

In Wireless Sensor Networks which are deployed in remote and isolated tropical areas; such as forest; jungle; and open dirt road environments; wireless communications usually suffer heavily because of the environmental effects on vegetation; terrain; low antenna height; and distance. Therefore; to solve this problem; the Wireless Sensor Network communication links must be designed for their best performance using the suitable electromagnetic wave behavior model in a given environment. This study introduces and analyzes the behavior of the LoRa pathloss propagation model for signals that propagate at near ground or that have low transmitter and receiver antenna heights from the ground (less than 30 cm antenna height). Using RMSE and MAE statistical analysis tools; we validate the developed model results. The developed Fuzzy ANFIS model achieves the lowest RMSE score of 0.88 at 433 MHz and the lowest MAE score of 1.61 at 433 MHz for both open dirt road environments. The Optimized FITU-R Near Ground model achieved the lowest RMSE score of 4.08 at 868 MHz for the forest environment and lowest MAE score of 14.84 at 868 MHz for the open dirt road environment. The Okumura-Hata model achieved the lowest RMSE score of 6.32 at 868 MHz and the lowest MAE score of 26.12 at 868 MHz for both forest environments. Finally; the ITU-R Maximum Attenuation Free Space model achieved the lowest RMSE score of 9.58 at 868 MHz for the forest environment and the lowest MAE score of 38.48 at 868 MHz for the jungle environment. These values indicate that the proposed Fuzzy ANFIS pathloss model has the best performance in near ground propagation for all environments compared to other benchmark models.

ABSTRACT

Low-end LiDAR sensor provides an alternative for depth measurement and object recognition for lightweight devices. However due to low computing capacity, complicated algorithms are incompatible to be performed on the device, with sparse information further limits the feature available for extraction. Therefore, a classification method which could receive sparse input, while providing ample leverage for the classification process to accurately differentiate objects within limited computing capability is required. To achieve reliable feature extraction from a sparse LiDAR point cloud, this paper proposes a novel Clustered Extraction and Centroid Based Clustered Extraction Method (CE-CBCE) method for feature extraction followed by a convolutional neural network (CNN) object classifier. The integration of the CE-CBCE and CNN methods enable us to utilize lightweight actuated LiDAR input and provides low computing means of classification while maintaining accurate detection. Based on genuine LiDAR data, the final result shows reliable accuracy of 97% through the method proposed.
