ABSTRACT

The reported study was carried out in 80 healthy subjects from the population of the City of Lódz not exposed occupationally to metals. Manganese was determined by the method of atomic absorptiometry (method error +/- 12%). The concentration of manganese in the serum ranged from the values below the detectability of the method (below 0.10 micrograms/100 ml - 1 case) to 0.78 micrograms/100 ml, the mean value was 0.39 +/- 0.18 micrograms/100 ml (means +/- SD). No significant differences were found in manganese concentration in relation to age, sex and smoking.
