The main aim of the investigation was to work out accessible techniques of calculation of the parameters of the mammary gland (MG) necessary for the surgeons performing organ-preserving operations. Given one parameter only--the arch size of the MG--and using the table of standard parameters of the MG, one can determine the MG volume, the volume of the dissected tissues and the necessary sizes of the myotransplant.

Formation of "wrapping" gastrointestinal anastomosis is suggested to reduce lethality after subtotal resection of the stomach for cancer in patients at high risk for pyo-septic complications. The procedure allows to completely avoid anastomotic leakage and thus decreases lethality by half.

An estimation of functional results of gastrectomy for gastric cancer in 183 patients has been made. Radical operations with the formation of Y-shaped interintestinal anastomosis and an artificial food reservoir in the area of the small intestine portion anastomozed with the esophagus were performed in 102 patients. Macroscopic signs of reflux-esophagitis were noted in 2 patients (1.96%), dumping-syndrome in 4 patients (3.9%) and hyperproteinemia in 1 patient (0.98%), i. e. the operations performed gave favourable functional results.

102 cases of primary multiple breast cancer (bilateral and multicentric tumors-61; synchronous tumors of the breast and genitals-12) were treated at the Regional Oncological Dispensary in Chelyabinsk in 1976-83. Tumors generally occurred in patients of the 40-50 years bracket at an interval of 5.2 +/- 0.3 years. A certain role in the pathogenesis of primary multiple breast cancer was played by reproductive function as well as previous treatment modality (gamma-therapy, cytostatic treatment and ovariectomy).

Under consideration are the results of the analysis of 209 questionnaires from females, subjected to surgical and radiotherapy for cancer of the mammary gland. Among 134 patients with group 2 invalidism 100 patients resumed their former activities. During first two years following the treatment 28 of them had to change their occupation. Sixty three females did not work at all after the treatment. The main causes leading to partial or complete loss of the efficiency were complications of radical mastectomy for cancer such as: pain, edema of the upper extremity at the site of the operation and its limited motion in the shoulder joint.
