ABSTRACT

We present a rare case of amyloidosis initially presenting with giant calcified inguinal adenopathy. Further imaging revealed diffuse calcifications within the mesentery and greater omentum. Amyloid deposition may mimic chronic granulomatous disorders and primary or secondary neoplastic conditions. Although definite diagnosis is made on histology, the radiologist should include amyloidosis in the differential diagnosis in the absence of a clinical history of neoplastic disorders or chronic infection, especially if extensive intra- lesional calcifications are seen. Ultrasound may be useful to target solid noncalcified areas in easily accessible extra- abdominal locations.

ABSTRACT

Chondrosarcoma of the larynx: a report of two cases and a review of the literature. This paper describes two cases of low-grade laryngeal chondrosarcoma. In both cases, the tumours were located on the cricoid, and could be visualized with a CT scan and magnetic resonance imaging. The diagnosis was made by a deep wedge biopsy with a CO2 laser, and after subtotal supracricoid laryngectomy. Most of the reported cases have been successfully managed by voice-sparing surgery, but the two cases reported here, needed more radical treatment.

ABSTRACT

The case of a 17-year-old boy with Chronic Recurrent Multifocal Osteomyelitis (CRMO) is presented. Clinical manifestations included a three month history of marked antalgic scoliosis, thoracic and mid-sternal pain, mild fever, elevated erythrocyte sedimentation rate, and skin lesions such as acne and psoriasis. Radiologically, osteolytic lesions were seen in the sternum and the thoracic spine. Histopathological examination of the sternal lesion revealed chronic osteomyelitis. Bone cultures of the resected specimen were negative for known pathogens. The combination of the clinical, radiological, histopathological and microbiological features was the clue to the diagnosis of CRMO.

ABSTRACT

A patient with right hearing loss, in whom computed tomographic scanning demonstrated a mass in the right cerebellopontine angle with widening of and extension into the internal auditory canal, but with important posterior extension and broad implantation on the surface of the petrous bone, is reported. On both T2-weighted and gadolinium-enhanced T1-weighted magnetic resonance images, there were clearly two separate tumoral lesions: an acoustic neurinoma extending into the internal auditory canal and a meningioma with broad implantation on the petrous apex. These findings were confirmed at surgery.

ABSTRACT

Two cases of endometriosis of the cecal area are reported. In one case, the endometriosis was located in the appendix causing intussusception into the cecum. Both cases were associated with localizations of endometriosis in the rectosigmoid.
