ABSTRACT

Effects of Mg2+ electrophoresis and galvanization on tooth and bone mineralization was experimentally studied with the use of radioactive Ca and P isotopes. Mg2+ electrophoresis and, to a lesser degree, galvanization enhanced 32P incorporation in incisors and maxillary bones. Mg2+ significantly increased 45Ca incorporation in teeth and maxillary bones. Experimental data permit clinical trials of Mg2+ efficacy in patients with disordered mineralization and remineralization.

ABSTRACT

Local Mg electrophoresis was shown to considerably increase the radiolabeled sulphate contents in an application area: gums, mandibular alveolar processes, lower incisors and molars roots. In areas far beyond the phoresis sites (femoral epiphyses and diaphyses) label incorporation was not affected. Mg-free galvanization had no effect on sulphate incorporation into the mineralized tissues. Heating up to 50 C substantially increased the S radioactivity in alveolar processes, molar and incisor roots. Simultaneous heating with Mg electrophoresis produced an additive effect.

ABSTRACT

Fine structure of distribution of electric potential difference (EPD) in human skin of some points on arms, body and face relative to a referent point on the neck was investigated. Diurnal variations of EPD fine structure for individuals and seasonal differences expressed in an increase of the amplitude of variations and shift of EPD mean values to the positive region in winter as compared with summer were observed. The indicated peculiarities are connected with external factors and reflect changes of metabolic activity of organism living activity processes.

ABSTRACT

In order to study the role of peroxidase in pathogenesis of periodontosis clinical observations were carried out in 132 patients with inflammatory-dystrophic form of periodontal disease and eight species of laboratory and domestic animals were used in experiments. In the patients studied a distinct increase in peroxidase activity was observed in mixed saliva and in gum tissues, which correlated with the severity of the periodontal disease. Inflammatory-dystrophic impairment of cat periodontium was accompanied by an increase in the peroxidase activity only in gum and alveolar process tissues; cats are characterized by the highest amounts of exogenous peroxidase in oral tissues as compared with other laboratory animals. High amounts of exogenous peroxidase did not affect the periododontal tissues of rats during long-term experiments. The main protective effects of the enzyme were as follows: bacteriostatic influence on streptococci in oral cavity and inhibition of leukocyte emifration. Estimation of the peroxidase activity in saliva may be considered as a diagnostic test for periodontosis and may be used to monitore the course of treatment.
