ABSTRACT

Penis carcinoma morbidity in the city of Moscow in 1973-1979 was 0.5 per 100,000 of male population, most of the patients being older than 60 years. On primary application, stage I of the disease was identified in 17.5%; stage II -- 42.9%; stage III -- 34.9% and stage IV in 4.7% of patients. Therefore, advanced tumors were found in 39.6% of patients. Combined treatment was given to 31.6%, radiation alone -- 37.5%, surgery -- 21.3% and symptomatic therapy -- 7.4% of cases. Three patients refused to take therapy.

ABSTRACT

Since 1969 to 1973 20 711 patients with gastric cancer were primarily registered, 35.6% of them were persons over 70 years of age. There is a certain tendency to increasing of the morbidity rate with age among aged persons. 30.7% of patients were considered to be incurable, surgery was denied due to age and concomitant diseases in 20.0%, 17.2% of patients refused the operation, 32.1% of patients were treated. Resectability makes 23.1% with a marked tendency to fall with age.

ABSTRACT

The data on 26 gastric cancer patients who refused to be treated at different Moscow City hospitals are reported. A questionnaire method was employed to study the cause of such refusals. Some practical recommendations are given to reduce the number of the latter.
