ABSTRACT

One hundred patients, randomly chosen, with post-partum salpingochlasia, were studied. The surgical procedures used were Pomeroy's Kroener's or a combination of both. Once the tubal segment was removed, a tube with BHI bacteriologic culture medium received the segment; it was placed latter in a specific medium. The parameters under study were: age of patients, number of gestations, number of deliveries, gestational age, vaginal infection antecedents during gestation, premature membrane rupture, post-partum uterine cavity revision and the time elapsed from the delivery to the time of tubal ligation. Seven positive cultures were seen, four of them due to enterobacteria, correlated with latency periods longer than 24 hours and cavity revision.
