ABSTRACT

Gallbladder carcinoma is a relatively rare malignant epithelial neoplasm, arising from gallbladder mucosa. It is the fifth most common gastrointestinal malignancy and the most common biliary tract cancer. Early diagnosis remains difficult, because clinical symptoms are sparse and non-specific, often resulting in advanced stage disease at the time of diagnosis. The most common feature of gallbladder carcinoma on different imaging modalities is focal wall thickening, associated with a large eccentric tumor mass. In this case we report the imaging characteristics of gallbladder carcinoma on ultrasound, MDCT and 18F-FDG PET/CT.

ABSTRACT

Supravalvar aortic stenosis (SVAS) is a form of congenital left ventricular outflow tract (LVOT) obstruction that occurs as a localized or diffuse narrowing of the ascending aorta beyond the superior margin of the sinuses of Valsalva. SVAS is a rare progressive congenital heart defect with a higher risk of sudden cardiac death. Our patient was a 30-year-old man referred by his GP for an incidental finding of heart murmur. Echocardiography showed a hypertrophic left ventricle with an increased pressure gradient. CT and MRI angiography and eventual arteriography confirmed the diagnosis by showing a narrowing of the aorta at the sinotubular junction with significant accelerated flow. This stenosis was eventually surgically corrected with no complications.

ABSTRACT

Cardiac lipomas are exceedingly rare benign tumors of the heart. They are usually asymptomatic. Occasionally, they are found on MRI as an incidental finding. We report a case of a 68-year-old woman who presented with shortness of breath. Transoesophageal echocardiography depicted a cardiac mass lesion. The diagnosis of an intracardiac lipoma was confirmed by characterization of this mass with MRI imaging. No surgery was required since the lesion did not exert a hemodynamic effect.

ABSTRACT

Erdheim-Chester disease (ECD) is a rare non-Langerhans' cell histiocytosis. Mild but permanent juxta-articular bone pain in mainly knees and ankles is the most frequent associated symptom. Despite the pathognomonic radiographic findings, most cases are still diagnosed by the pathologist. The lesions consist of lipid-storing CD 68 +/CD 1a--non-Langerhans' cell histiocytes, most frequently localized in bone but also involving multiple organ systems in the body. We present a case report in which the diagnosis of ECD was established with 99mTc MDP bone SPECT/CT.

ABSTRACT

In order to avoid unnecessary therapy or treatment delay, it is important for the radiologist to be aware of the wide range of differential diagnoses for cystic lesions of the female reproductive system. This paper gives an overview of radiological findings in the variety of physiologic and pathologic cysts which may be encountered in this field.

ABSTRACT

Gallstone ileus is a rare disease, which is responsible for about 1%-4% of all cases of mechanical obstruction. The findings of gallstone ileus on computed tomography (CT) are pathognomonic. The morbidity and mortality rate remain very high, mainly because of delayed diagnosis. We report a case of gallstone ileus which caused intestinal obstruction which was diagnosed on a contrast-enhanced CT scan of the abdomen.
