ABSTRACT

Dipteryx odorata and Dipteryx punctata are species native to the Amazonian, traded by extractivists to obtain coumarin. We aimed to analyze the presence of coumarin in the ethanolic extracts of leaves, branches and fruits of D. odorata and D. punctata and to evaluate the antimicrobial activity of these extracts against phytopathogenic fungi and bacteria of clinical interest. Chemical analyses were performed by thin layer chromatography (TLC) and by gas chromatography coupled to mass spectrometry (GC-MS). For the antifungal assays, the fungi used were Cercospora longissima, Colletotrichum gloeosporioides, two isolates of Fusarium spp. and Sclerotium rolfsii, and the antibacterial assay was performed using the minimum inhibitory concentration (MIC) test with Burkholderia cepacia, Escherichia coli, Pseudomonas aeruginosa and Staphylococcus aureus bacteria. In D. odorata seed extracts and in D. punctata husks, endocarps, and seeds, we identified 1,2-benzopyrone. D. odorata endocarp extracts and D. punctata seeds provided the greatest decrease in mycelial growth of the evaluated phytopathogens, showing promise as an alternative control. The husk and endocarp extracts of both species had a weak effect on E. coli. This research is the first to compare the different parts of species of the genus Dipteryx and to evaluate the use of husks and endocarps of D. punctata fruits to obtain coumarin. Chemical analyses used to quantify the compounds existing in the extracts, and tests with phytopathogens in vitro and in vivo are currently being carried out.

ABSTRACT

The COVID-19 pandemic has caused and is still causing many infections. An important change brought about by prevention actions was the closing of schools, and the adoption of teaching by digital means in private institutions. In this article, we aim to analyze the subjective well-being and stress of children aged 8 to 12 years in digital education during the COVID-19 pandemic in a city in the Brazilian Amazon. For data collection, we used the Children's Global Life Satisfaction Scale, the Multidimensional Scale of Life Satisfaction for Children (MSLSC), and the Infantile Stress Scale, all via Google Forms. To analyze the data, we used descriptive statistics, correlation between variables and logistic regression. The Family domain obtained higher scores (4.54 ± 0.45). The Infantile Stress Scale showed that the children were in a normal phase, with some of them in an alert and even resistance phase. There was a strong positive correlation between the Family domain (r = 0.70; p-value < 0.05) and the Self domain (r = 0.70; p-value < 0.001). The higher the value of the predictor variable (Family domain), the lower the chances of a child belonging to the Resistance category. Therefore, the Family domain is an important component of children's well-being, acting as a protective factor against child stress.

ABSTRACT

Isolates of Trichoderma spp., a soil fungus, has been used to control diseases and promote plant growth, reducing the use of chemicals in the production of seedlings of different plant species. We evaluated the effect of some Trichoderma spp. isolates on seed treatment and seedling production of Theobromacacao. Five isolates from the Amazon region were tested. In laboratory, the following variables were evaluated for seed treatments: germination, germination speed index, radicle and hypocotyl lengths, and fungi incidence. In nursery, the following forms of application were tested: via seeds; in the substrate at pre-planting; monthly in post-planting substrate, and also their combination. The following was evaluated: height, diameter, number of leaves, root length, leaf area, and shoot dry mass and root system. Inoculation with Trichoderma increased the length of the radicle and hypocotyl and showed no fungi in the seeds. In seedlings, some treatments increased height and plant root dry mass. The use of Trichoderma was beneficial for seeds and appeared favorable for T. cacao production.

ABSTRACT

Fungi of the genus Trichoderma are important microorganisms used in biocontrol processes and the promotion of plant development. However, they remain poorly studied in the context of forestry programs, especially those related to native Amazonian species. Thus, it is the aim of this study to evaluate the effects of different Trichoderma isolates on the germination and development of Handroanthus serratifolius seedlings. During in vitro germination tests, seeds were immersed for 24 h in respective fungal suspensions each prepared using one of five Trichoderma isolates. The suspensions were held in plastic trays and kept at a temperature of 24 ± 2 °C. Metrics related to germination and development assessed under laboratory conditions include: germination speed index (GSI), germination percentage, length of the roots, and hypocotyls, as well as fungal perseverance. In the nursery, Trichoderma were used in two different applications: pre-planting treatment and as a monthly, post-planting treatment. Pre-planting treatments consisted of 10 g of colonized rice grains bearing each isolate being placed into experimental bags five days before seeding. The post-planting treatment involved the application of 10 mL of fungal suspension per experimental bag. Each month, the height, stem diameter, and leaf number were measured for each seedling. At the end of the experiment, the length and mass of roots as well as the total dry mass were recorded. In laboratory conditions, seeds treated with Trichoderma asperellum -TAM03 obtained the greatest fractional germination (76.5%) and GSI. In the nursery experiments, isolates TAM01 and TAM03, when applied as a post-planting treatment, increased the height, stem diameter, and number of leaves of treated plants with respect to the control group by 180 days post-treatment. After 365 days, plants which received TAM01 pre-planting treatments were observed to have increased root and aerial part length, as well as root mass and overall dry mass. These results suggest that T. asperellum -TAM01 positively affects H. serratifolius development.

ABSTRACT

The efficiency of Azadirachta indica as natural barrier against the attack by Hypsipyla grandellaon mahogany in different arrangements and planting densities was evaluated. The study was carried out in degraded pasture in Vigia, Pará. The experimental design was a randomized block in split plot in time with five replications, the forms of cultivation of mahogany as plots and the evaluation periods (months) as the subplots. The natural barrier formed by neem did not prevent the attack of H. grandella on mahogany, but delayed and minimized the attack in mixed plantings. It is recommended that mahogany should not be planted simultaneously with the neem, but a year after planting the neem, when it has more than three meters in height, forming a natural barrier more effective to pest attack.


A eficiência da espécie Azadirachta indica como barreira natural ao ataque da Hypsipyla grandella sobre o mogno em diferentes arranjos e densidades de plantio foi, avaliada. O estudo foi realizado numa área de pastagem degradada em Vigia, PA. O delineamento experimental utilizado foi em blocos ao acaso em esquema de parcelas subdivididas no tempo, com cinco repetições, sendo as formas de cultivo do mogno as parcelas, e as épocas de avaliação (meses) as subparcelas. A barreira natural formada pelo nim não evitou o ataque de H. grandella sobre o mogno, mas retardou e minimizou o ataque em plantios mistos. Para o maior controle do ataque de H. grandella, o mogno não deve ser plantado simultaneamente com o nim, mas um ano após o plantio do nim, quando este apresenta mais de três metros de altura, formando uma barreira natural mais eficaz ao ataque desta praga.

ABSTRACT

Este trabalho objetivou avaliar os Sistemas Agroflorestais-SAF comerciais multiestratificados de agricultores familiares de Igarapé-Açu, bem como identificar as espécies que compõem os sistemas agroflorestais. A partir de entrevistas foram catalogadas as espécies de maior interesse dos agricultores familiares e por meio de inventário florístico foram avaliados os SAF produtivos. Os cultivos de pimenta-do-reino, mandioca, feijão, cupuaçu, caju, açaí, pupunha, mogno e o nim indiano foram os mais freqüentes pelos agricultores. Os SAF são manejados na sua maioria de forma tradicional.


This paper aimed to evaluate the multistrata agroforestry systems of small farmers of Igarapé-Açu, as well as to identify the species that compose of they interest. Through interviews were listed the interest species of small farmers and from inventory floristic were evaluated the productive AFS. The species: pepper-of-kingdom, cassava, beans, cupuaçu, caju, açai palm, pupunha palm, mahogany and indian neem were the most cultivated by these farmers. Most of the AFS are managed in the traditional manner.
