ABSTRACT

In this article we showed clinic-neurological and neurovisualizative investigation of 20 patients with acute isolated cerebellar infarction and taking into account frequency of symptoms of the cerebellar ataxia peculiarities of ataxic disorders were determined according to involved anatomic structures and arterial territories of the cerebellum.

ABSTRACT

Changes of state of lipid peroxidation and activity of antioxidant defence enzymes katalase, superoxide dismutase, glutathione peroxidase and glutathione reductase - in the brain and liver tissue of guinea-pig in conditions of different stages of experimental autoimmune encephalomyelitis (EAE; 11th, 21st, 27th day after inoculation) and in blood of multiple sclerosis (MS) patients with different types, degrees of severity and length of disease and blood level of reduced glutathione have been investigated. We have found, that the development of oxidative stress in animal organism during the disease development is progressive and intensive lipid peroxide oxidation without compensation by antioxidant mechanisms have been shown in the late period (27th day) of the experiment. In MS conditions this state was accompanied with high activity of demyelination process, severe degree of neuronal injury and length of disease above 5 years. In addition reduced glutathione level was increased in many patient groups: remitting type, light (II) degree of severity and among the patients with strongly disturbed neurological functions and long course of the disease. The obtained data allow us to suppose that the development of oxidative stress under demyelination conditions is a result of strong metabolic disorders and decrease of antioxidant defence in the patients during the disease development. The necessity of individual approaches for antioxidant therapy of patients with MS is discussed.

ABSTRACT

I1-6 in blood serum 109 patients with ischemic stroke was tested on 1st and 7 day after developing the disease. The decrease in concentration of I1-6 on 7 day was found after a complex therapy with Flogensim in the study group in comparison with the control group where a traditional therapy was used. The authors found considerable difference in consequences of the ischemic stroke on 21 day among patients pertaining to different group: the number of patients of the study group where results were better increases and number of the patients of this group with no dynamic or even worsening in neurological status decreases.

ABSTRACT

Results of the examination of more than 51 patients with multiple sclerosis and 20 patients of the control group are presented in this article. It is shown that therapy with immunosuppressive medicines (metilprednisolon, dexametason and synakten-depo) is effective as treatment of patients with multiple sclerosis at the stage of exacerbation, making positive effect on the dynamics of the neurological symptoms and immunal indices. The best results were observed among the patients of II and III level of gravity with mainly remitting type of multiple sclerosis. In the comparative aspect pulse-therapy with metilprednisolon was the most effective.

ABSTRACT

The present article focuses on lacunar brain infarction--that of acute or gradually progressive ischemic cerebral circulatory disorder under arterial hypertension. Major risk factors are described as are pathogenesis, pathomorphology, location of the lesion, clinical picture together with principle symptoms of manifestation, diagnosis, treatment and prophylaxis of the condition.

ABSTRACT

An analysis was performed of features of incipient manifestations of multiple sclerosis in 648 patients with a primary diagnosis having been made at the Ukrainian Centre for Study of Demyelinating Diseases over 1992-1996. Incipient manifestations of disseminated sclerosis revealed themselves predominantly as sensory, motor, visual, and coordination impairment against the background of pain sensations, paresthesias and pronounced asthenia of the nervous system. Knowledge of disseminated sclerosis debut is important for the diagnosis of the condition to be made and treatments to be administered in a timely fashion.

ABSTRACT

Deontological problems in neurology and neurosurgery include behaviour of the medical personnel to patients and their relatives, evaluation of the severity of the patients' condition, performance of manipulations and operations, information of the patients about his disease. Deontological problems are of major importance in the adequate treatment of patients with diseases of the nervous system.
