ABSTRACT

The impact of two types of multi-walled carbon nanotubes (MWCNTs) (12-14 nm) with different content of metallic impurities (purified and unpurified nanotubes) on peroxidation processes, the status of immune cells in healthy volunteers and gene expression combined to pathway analysis was studied in vitro. From the study it was shown that the main mechanism of action for both types of MWCNTs is induction of oxidative stress, the intensity of which is directly related to the amount of metallic impurities. Unpurified MWCNTs produced twice as high levels of oxidation than the purified CNTs inducing thus more intense mitochondrial dysfunction. All the above were also verified by gene expression analysis of 2 different human cellular cultures (lung epithelium and keratinoma cells) and the respective pathway analysis; modulation of genes activating the NFkB pathway is associated to inflammatory responses. This may cause a perturbation in the IL-6 signaling pathway in order to regulate inflammatory processes and compensate for apoptotic changes. A plausible hypothesis for the immunological effects observed in vivo, are considered as the result of the synergistic effect of systemic (mediated by cells of the routes of exposure) and local inflammation (blood cells).

ABSTRACT

Oxidative stress has long been recognized to play an important role in the pathogenesis of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) and aging, initiating oxidative damage of biomolecules. In this study the development of imbalances in the system of lipid peroxidation and increase the level of the marker of oxidative damage to DNA - 8-hydroxy-deoxyguanosine (8-ОНdG) in patients with COPD and healthy individuals. Evaluation of the relationship between the parameters of the system of lipid peroxidation and the level of 8-ОНdG allowed to drill down to different oxidative mechanisms in the pathogenesis of COPD in patients of middle or old age.

ABSTRACT

Of paramount importance at the stage of rehabilitative treatment of the patients presenting with combined cardiorespiratory pathology are therapeutic measures aimed at eliminating the principal components of pathogenesis of a given disease and correcting the concomitant immunometabolic disturbances. Our investigations have demonstrated that ozone therapy given to the patients with chronic bronchitis and hypertension produces lipid-lowering, hypoglycemic and fibrinolytic effects. Its combination with anti-hypoxic treatment helps to normalize the functioning capabilities of all organs and systems of the body. Immunomodulatory effects of ozone therapy is attributable to the disintoxicative and anti-hypoxic actions of medical ozone as well as activation of the "lipid peroxidation--antioxidant protection" system.

ABSTRACT

We studied the basic indicators of immune status of healthy persons of different age groups living in the monsoon climate in the southern Far East. The analysis shows age-dependent development of immunodepressive status, combined with increasing levels of CD16, CD25 and HLA-DR in the aging organism. Climatic and anthropogenic factors effect profoundly damaging on the body, which results in the severity of disorders of the immune system in old, old age and longevity.

ABSTRACT

It is investigated conditions of system "lipid peroksidation - antioxidant protection" at rats of the line Wistar at prolonged formation alimentary dyslipidemia (DLP). It is established, that at formation DLP during 46 days in cells there was no increase in resistance and capacity of processes antioxidant protection. In prolonged DLP (90 days) was characterized by occurrence of the compensation-adaptive answer in the system "lipid peroksidation - antioxidant protection".

ABSTRACT

On the white Wistar rats with alimentary dyslipidemia investigated influence 1-O-alkyl-glycerides ethers (AGE), received by a method of hydrolysis 1-O-alkyl-diacylglycerides from lipids of the squid Berryteuthis magister liver, on a lipid metabolism, hepatobiliary functions of liver, antioxidant systems and parameters of blood. Are revealed antioxidant, antianemia and immunoactive properties of AGE. AGE raise a level of glucose and activity of enzymes hepatobiliary systems in blood, interfere the decrease of a cholesterol in blood.

ABSTRACT

The data of research have shown that the biologically active additive of food "Algilosa potassium-magnesium" possess the favorable action on the "lipid peroxidation-antioxidant protection" system, normalized parameters of immunity, action of erythrocytes and platelet aggregation properties of blood. The leaded research recommend to use of "Algilosa potassium-magnesium" for preventive and treatment of diseases of cardiovascular system and other pathological conditions at which infringements mention investigated systems.

ABSTRACT

AIM: To characterize cell dysregulation in chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) at local and systemic levels. MATERIAL AND METHODS: A total of 48 patients with COPD were examined (mean disease duration 11.2 +/- 7.2 years, mean age 58 +/- 4.2 years). Content of glutathione, and activity of glutathione peroxidase, glutathione reductase in whole blood (Novgorodtseva T.P., 2003), catalase in erythrocytes (Karpichenko A.I., 1999) were determined. Products of lipid peroxidation in exhaled breath condensate were defined to reveal diene conjugates of hydroperoxides, ketodienes, coupled trienes (Khyshiktuyev B.S., 1996). RESULTS: An evident oxidation stress at the local level was revealed in patients with COPD in deficiency of enzymatic antiperoxide link of anti-oxidant defense that is characterized by increased quantity of lipid peroxidation intermediants both in heptane and isopropanol phases.

ABSTRACT

Biological properties of a lipid preparation based on the liver of a schoolmaster gonate squid Berryteuthis magister was studied on a group of Wistar male rats with experimental cardioangiopathy model. The preparation containing 10% polyunsaturated fatty acids and 50% alkyl-diacylglycerides ("Magister-Oil" nutritional additive) exhibits (i) a lipid-correction effect (manifested by a decrease in the levels of triglycerides and cholesterol of the atherogenic lipoprotein fraction and by an increase in the level of cholesterol of a high-density lipoprotein fraction); (ii) immunomodulant effect (manifested by activation of the phagocyte neutrophil link); and (iii) stimulation of the erythro- and lymphopoiesis. The obtained results allow the "Magister-Oil" nutritional additive to be recommended as a means of prophylaxis and treatment of disorders accompanied by disturbances in lipid metabolism, immunity system, and peripheral blood parameters.

ABSTRACT

Synthetic cannabinoid WIN-55,212-2 produces a dose-dependent decrease on the TNF-alpha production by LPS-stimulated human mononuclear cells in vitro. The most pronounced inhibition of the TNF-alpha synthesis was observed for a drug concentration of 10 microM.
