ABSTRACT

The authors treated 16 patients with advanced prostate carcinoma after previous orchiectomy and further progression of the disease: 9 patients with Cyclophosphamide + Ftorafur + placebo and seven patients with Cyclophosphamide + Ftorafur + Orimeten. They achieved in particular improvement of the subjective complaints, while in both groups there was objective progression of the disease. In the group with Orimeten the objective progression of the disease was slower than in the group where cytostatics alone were administered.

ABSTRACT

The authors discuss the problem of the most suitable anaesthesia for percutaneous extraction of renal concrements. Based on 203 anaesthesias, they compare the combination of local anaesthesia with intravenous administration of ketamine with a tranquilizer, local anaesthesia with administration of phentanyl and a tranquillizer and local anesthesia with phentanyl and a analgetic-spasmolytic mixture. In the great majority of patients they prefer a combination of local anaesthesia and continuous administration of phentanyl and fractionated administration of an analgetic-spasmolytic mixture.

ABSTRACT

In 64 patients with prostate carcinoma localized on a gland or pelvic lymph nodes the authors evaluated the possibility of non-surgical assessment of lymphatic metastases. The results were compared with conclusions of histological examination of the nodes obtained by pelvic lymphadenectomy. The stage and histological classification of primary prostate disease correlates to a certain extent with affection of the nodes. The serum levels of ACP and ACPT are elevated in some of the patients with metastases in the pelvic lymph nodes. Both these method enable us to make certain predictions, in particular when the methods are used in combination. However, they cannot replace lymphadenectomy completely. The reliability of bipedal lymphography is 26.4%. Therefore this method, similarly as isotope lymphography, is quite inadequate for evaluation of the condition of the lymphatic system.

ABSTRACT

The authors submit a report on 225 patients operated by the percutaneous approach on the kidney during the period between March 1985 and February 1987. From 231 operations on account of lithiasis concrements were removed in 94.8%. No major complications were observed. The mean period which elapsed from operation to discharge was 8 days in one-stage operations and 19 days in multiple-stage operations. The authors discuss the indications and some technical conditions of the method.

ABSTRACT

In a series of 134 patients with histologically verified prostatic carcinoma, ultrasonotomography, using the transvesical technique, yielded positive results in 97.0% of the cases; in 11.9% inaccessible localization made rectal palpation of the tumour impossible. Ultrasonographic examination is an important contribution to determination of the extent of a tumour whose palpation accessibility is limited and which can be demonstrated only indirectly by radiography. It allows more exact indication of the form of treatment and a non-aggressive follow-up of its effect.
