ABSTRACT

The authors performed a retrospective analysis of ultrasonographic findings in 63 female patients with mammary cancer verified by histology. The ultrasonographic examination contributed significantly to the diagnostic results in 16.4% of patients. The ultrasonographic picture of mammary cancer was characteristically variable with the occurrence of various deviations, with prevailing main symptoms of cancer (irregularity of the shape in 81% and the contour in 100%, prevailing low and medium echoes in 97%, irregular distribution of internal echoes in 76.2%, retro-tumorous middle acoustic shade in 63.4%). The authors draw attention to the diagnostic role of individually marked deviations of echographic structure; the importance of careful examination of the formation in different planes in view of the tumour is pointed out, since the symptom of malignant process may be present in only one of them.

ABSTRACT

During the investigation of ductographic findings in 200 patients with secretory disease of the breasts it was discovered that pathologically secreting lactiferous ducts were statistically predominantly localized in the retroareolar region and in the lower quadrates of the breasts. This prevalence does not correspond with the regions of the most voluminous portions of the mammary gland and with the most frequent localization of mammography manifestations of its fibroepithelial dysplasia.

ABSTRACT

The authors consider the spondylolysis a polyetiologic abnormality with an important part of congenital factors in its origin. The frequency of spondylolysis can be considered a feature characterizing a population. This opinion is confirmed by finds in skeletal materials from old Slavonic and Slavonic-Avaric cemeteries. The frequency of spondylolysis in the Slavonic part is significantly lower than in the Slavonic-Avaric part of the materials. The share of unilateral spondylolysis is also different (15 and 7%) when comparing these two population groups, but statistically insignificant. The so-called "combined" type of spondylolysis is, however, significantly higher in the number of unilateral cases of spondylolysis than in the bilateral ones.

ABSTRACT

Accessory caudal ribs are reported as an extremely curious anomaly in five patients. Once the fracture of this rib was a source of pains after injury. The different shapes of the ribs are documented in this clinical survey which is the most extensive in the present literature. Anomalous ribs arise due to inappropriate segmentation during the embryonal development of the axial skeleton.
