ABSTRACT

DNA steganography is a technique for securely transmitting important data using DNA sequences. It involves encrypting and hiding messages within DNA sequences to prevent unauthorized access and decoding of sensitive information. Biometric systems, such as fingerprinting and iris scanning, are used for individual recognition. Since biometric information cannot be changed if compromised, it is essential to ensure its security. This research aims to develop a secure technique that combines steganography and cryptography to protect fingerprint images during communication while maintaining confidentiality. The technique converts fingerprint images into binary data, encrypts them, and embeds them into the DNA sequence. It utilizes the Feistel network encryption process, along with a mathematical function and an insertion technique for hiding the data. The proposed method offers a low probability of being cracked, a high number of hiding positions, and efficient execution times. Four randomly chosen keys are used for hiding and decoding, providing a large key space and enhanced key sensitivity. The technique undergoes evaluation using the NIST statistical test suite and is compared with other research papers. It demonstrates resilience against various attacks, including known-plaintext and chosen-plaintext attacks. To enhance security, random ambiguous bits are introduced at random locations in the fingerprint image, increasing noise. However, it is important to note that this technique is limited to hiding small images within DNA sequences and cannot handle video, audio, or large images.

ABSTRACT

BACKGROUND: Midlife Black women suffer disproportionately from cardiovascular disease and are 65% more likely to die following a cardiac event compared with White women. Recruitment and retention of midlife Black women in clinical trials has been historically low. The culturally tailored Midlife Black Women's Stress Reduction and Wellness (B-SWELL) intervention was codeveloped with the community and designed to lower cardiovascular disease risk in midlife Black women. OBJECTIVES: We sought to assess participant satisfaction in the randomized feasibility trial of the B-SWELL intervention. METHODS: A feasibility trial comparing the B-SWELL to a wellness intervention was conducted in the winter and spring of 2021 in compliance with pandemic research protocols. An adapted survey tool was used to rate satisfaction with the intervention and its technology using a Likert-type scale (1 [strongly disagree] to 5 [strongly agree]). Survey subscales assessed usefulness, ease, and acceptability of the intervention(s). RESULTS: Randomization yielded no statistical demographic differences (N = 48). Satisfaction for the interventions was high in both the B-SWELL and Wellness intervention groups with mean scores of 4.57 and 4.56, respectively. Mean scores for technology were 4.49 for the B-SWELL and 4.47 for the Wellness group. Subscales were also rated highly. Narrative responses were positively aligned with satisfaction scores. CONCLUSIONS: Results support use of cultural adaptation and community participatory methods to develop and deliver interventions targeted to at-risk populations. Culturally adapted interventions designed in collaboration with the community have greater authenticity, increasing the potential for higher recruitment, retention, and participant satisfaction of underrepresented populations. The trial is registered in ClinicalTrials.gov (NCT04404478).

ABSTRACT

Hydrogen gas (H2 ) is the primary storable fuel for pollution-free energy production, with over 90 million tonnes used globally per year. More than 95% of H2 is synthesized through metal-catalyzed steam methane reforming that produces 11 tonnes of carbon dioxide (CO2 ) per tonne H2 . "Green H2 " from water electrolysis using renewable energy evolves no CO2 , but costs 2-3× more, making it presently economically unviable. Here catalyst-free conversion of waste plastic into clean H2 along with high purity graphene is reported. The scalable procedure evolves no CO2 when deconstructing polyolefins and produces H2 in purities up to 94% at high mass yields. The sale of graphene byproduct at just 5% of its current value yields H2 production at a negative cost. Life-cycle assessment demonstrates a 39-84% reduction in emissions compared to other H2 production methods, suggesting the flash H2 process to be an economically viable, clean H2 production route.

BACKGROUND: Poststroke shoulder pain (PSSP) is a common poststroke complication. Even though it is a common phenomenon, it is unclear how it impacts the patient's life. OBJECTIVE: To investigate the differences in upper extremity function, sleep quality, and functional independence between patients with and without PSSP. METHODS: This cross-sectional study included 63 participants with stroke (32 patients with PSSP and 31 patients without PSSP). Shoulder pain was evaluated with a Visual Analog Scale and the participants were divided into two groups as those with and without PSSP. The upper extremity function was assessed with the Disabilities of the Arm, Shoulder, and Hand Questionnaire, the Arm Motor Ability Test, and the Nine Hole Peg Test. Sleep quality was assessed with Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index and the functional independence was assessed with the Functional Independence Measure. All data were analyzed using the program IBM SPSS Statistics 22.0. The Mann-Whitney U test was used to compare the non-normally distributed parameters, and the Chi-square test was used to compare the ordinal variables. The Spearman correlation test was used for the relationship and a linear regression test was used for regression. RESULTS: Upper extremity function decreased (p < .05), only the sleep disturbance sub-parameter of sleep quality increased (p = .01), and functional independence increased in patients with PSSP (p < .001). There was a moderate relationship between pain and upper extremity function and a fair relationship between pain and sleep quality (use of sleep medications, daytime dysfunction sub-parameters) (p < .05). CONCLUSIONS: PSSP impairs upper extremity functions, which play an important role in activities of daily living, and reduces functional independence. These results suggest that it is important to evaluate shoulder pain and examine the factors affecting pain in the rehabilitation of patients with stroke.

This study aimed to assess the ability of community pharmacists to recognize cases of loperamide abuse at the point of sale, their perspective of and experience toward potential abuse cases. METHODS: A cross-sectional study was conducted in Jordan, using a self-administered online questionnaire. The questionnaire consisted of three main parts: demographics, the experience of pharmacists with abusers' behavior, as well as their perspectives toward loperamide abuse. RESULTS: A total of 250 community pharmacists completed the survey, 54% (135) of which were female. Almost one-third (33.2%; 83) of the participants reported exposure to suspected cases of loperamide abuse during the last six months. Pharmacists declared that most of the suspected loperamide abusers were male (60.2%), of middle-low socioeconomic status (69.9%), and between 20 and 30 years of age (57.8%). The largest quantity (packs) of loperamide requested by a single patient was around 33.2 ± 14.9 at once. As reported by pharmacists, the suspected reasons behind loperamide abuse included 50% seeking euphoria, 17% relieving anxiety, and 33% controlling addiction (weaning off other opioids). The multivariate logistic regression analysis demonstrated a significant correlation between the male sex (OR = 1.2, 95% CI 0.12-1.59), pharmacy location in the center of Jordan (OR = 21.2, 95% CI 2.45-183.59), late-night working shift (Shift C, OR = 1.29, 95% CI 0.12-2.08), and abuse to loperamide during the last six months. CONCLUSIONS: This study sheds light on loperamide abuse potentials, which could be influenced by different sociodemographic characteristics. Accordingly, close monitoring and thorough tackling of the abuse practices are mandated through an increase in educational and awareness campaigns about proper medication use.

Nanoemulsions and bigels are biphasic delivery systems that can be used for topical applications. The aim of this study was to incorporate an oil-in-water ciprofloxacin hydrochloride nanoemulsion (CIP.HCl NE) into two types of bigels, Type I (oleogel (OL)-in-hydrogel (WH)) and Type II (WH-in-OL) to enhance drug penetration into skin and treat topical bacterial infections. Bigels were prepared at various ratios of OL and WH (1:1, 1:2, and 1:4). Initially, CIP.HCl NE was prepared and characterized in terms of droplet size, zeta potential, polydispersity index, morphology, and thermodynamic and chemical stability. Then CIP.HCl NE was dispersed into the OL or WH phase of the bigel. The primary physical stability studies showed that Type I bigels were physically stable, showing no phase separation. Whereas Type II bigels were physically unstable, hence excluded from the study. Type I bigels were subjected to microstructural, rheological, in vitro release, antimicrobial, and stability studies. The microscopic images showed a highly structured bigel network with nanoemulsion droplets dispersed within the bigel network. Additionally, bigels exhibited pseudoplastic flow and viscoelastic properties. A complete drug release was achieved after 4-5 h. The in vitro and ex vivo antimicrobial studies revealed that bigels exhibited antimicrobial activity against different bacterial strains. Moreover, stability studies showed that the rheological properties and physical and chemical stability varied based on the bigel composition over three months. Therefore, the physicochemical and rheological properties, drug release rate, and antimicrobial activity of Type I bigels could be modified by altering the OL to WH ratio and the phase in which the nanoemulsion dispersed in.

ABSTRACT

Diseases or defects of the skeleton are hazardous because of their specificity and intricacy. Bone tissue engineering has become an important area of research that offers promising new tools for making biomimetic hydrogels that can be used to treat bone diseases. New hydrogels with a distinctive 3D network structure, high water content, and functional capabilities are ranked among the most promising candidates for bone tissue engineering. This makes them helpful in treating cartilage injury, skull deformity, and arthritis. This review will briefly introduce the variety of biocompatible functional hydrogels used in cell culture and bone tissue regeneration. Many gel design concepts, such as crosslinking procedures, controlled release properties, and alternative bionic methodology, were stressed regarding injectable hydrogels to form bone tissue. Hydrogels manufactured from biocompatible materials are a promising option for minimally invasive surgery because of their adaptable physicochemical qualities, ability to fill irregularly shaped defect sites, and ability to grow hormones or release drugs in response to external stimuli. Also included in this overview is a quick rundown of the more practical designs employed in treating bone disorders. Essential details on injectable hydrogel scaffolds for bone tissue regeneration are described in this article.

OBJECTIVE: The aim was to establish the reliability and the validity of Arabic translated versions of the Fatigue Assessment Scale (FAS) and the Effort Assessment Scale (EAS). DESIGN: The FAS and the EAS were translated from the original English following a recommended six-step approach for translating hearing-related questionnaires for different languages. The reliability of the scales was investigated using Cronbach's alpha, item-total correlation, and inter-item correlation. Construct validity was investigated using factor analysis and the hypothesis testing method. STUDY SAMPLE: The translated scales were completed by 146 participants from Jordan and Saudi Arabia (age range 19-86 years old, 39% male). Participants' hearing level ranged from normal to profound. RESULTS: Item 3 in the translated FAS was removed to improve the scale's construct validity. The translated version of the EAS was found to be as reliable and valid as the original EAS. CONCLUSIONS: The availability of standardised versions of the FAS and the EAS provides a quick and easy method for improving hearing rehabilitation in Arabic-speaking countries where audiology services can often be costly and not necessarily accessible to all individuals.

OBJECTIVES: The purpose of this study is to describe all published techniques of short nose correction released by surgeons over the years and summarize their outcomes in a descriptive systematic review of the literature. PATIENTS AND METHODS: A computerized literature search was conducted using 5 major databases. All original studies discussing correction methods and/or outcomes of shortened noses were included. The risk of bias was evaluated blindly by 2 reviewers, and the data were descriptively presented. The study protocol was recorded in the International Prospective Register of Systematic Reviews. RESULTS: A total of 24 studies including 1450 patients were included. Lengthening of the nose was performed through a cartilage-only graft in 14 studies, whereas bone graft was used in 3 studies. The mean increase in nasal tip projection in 5 reports ranged from 0.05 to 2.2 mm. The mean nasal length before and after rhinoplasty was reported in 8 studies, with a mean increase ranging from 0.28 to 6.2 mm. Regarding surgical complications, 30 patients had implant deviation or migration, 22 patients experienced postoperative infection, and 12 patients required corrective surgery. CONCLUSIONS: Augmentation of a short nose is a challenging surgical procedure for rhinoplasty. There are several techniques for short nose correction; however, it is difficult to evaluate the outcomes in the absence of a standard tool of assessment. Further analytical studies are warranted to fully evaluate surgical techniques.

Background In this study, we aimed to investigate the relationship between central corneal thickness (CCT) and age, gender, refractive errors, and corneal curvature in a Saudi population. Methodology In this randomized, hospital-based, retrospective study, data were collected from Dr. Sulaiman Al Habib Hospital and Imam Medical Center, Riyadh. A total of 1,005 eyes were included and recruited from patients referred to the refractive surgery clinic for Lasik assessment. The study included patients aged between 17 and 57 years with no history of any ocular pathology, eye surgeries, and systemic disease, as well as all groups with stable refractions. The identifying data were the age and gender of the patients, as well as their CCT, refraction, and corneal curvature. CCT and corneal curvature were measured by ultrasound pachymeter Pentacam. Results The distribution of CCT was 543.81 ± 34.47 µm. A significant difference in the mean CCT was observed across different refractive errors (p = 0.004). Patients with astigmatism had the lowest CCT, followed by myopic and hyperopic patients. An association between the spherical equivalent of patients with myopia and CCT (p = 0.001) was noted. Conclusions In the Saudi population, we found no significant association between mean corneal curvature and CCT in all three groups. Spherical equivalent in myopic patients was significantly associated with CCT. A significant difference in the mean CCT was observed across different refractive errors. There was a significant negative and weak correlation between age in myopic and astigmatism patients and CCT. Gender was significantly associated with CCT in patients with astigmatism.

BACKGROUND: Black women have a disproportionately higher incidence of cardiovascular disease-related mortality than other groups, yet they are less likely to receive culturally proficient education and competent preventive care. PURPOSE: The purpose of this study was to determine feasibility of the Midlife Black Women's Stress and Wellness intervention (B-SWELL); a culturally adapted, 8-week group intervention leveraging stress reduction and goal setting to increase awareness and adoption of Life's Simple 7 (LS7) healthy lifestyle behaviors. METHODS: A randomized feasibility trial was conducted. Participants (N = 48, mean age = 55 years) were randomized to the B-SWELL or a group wellness (WE) intervention that lacked stress reduction and goal setting instruction. We hypothesized that B-SWELL participants would achieve a lower perceived stress, greater self-efficacy, improved LS7 scores, fewer symptoms (depression and unhealthy days), and greater perceived general health compared to WE participants. Survey data were collected at three timepoints: baseline, 8 weeks, and 12 weeks. RESULTS: Both B-SWELL and WE groups had low attrition and navigated the online platform well. Further, both groups experienced lower perceived stress, improved LS7 scores, reduced depressive symptoms, and greater perceived general health from baseline to 8 weeks. Based on data trends, participants in the B-SWELL had more improvement in perceived stress, self-efficacy, and mental and physical unhealthy days compared to WE participants. CONCLUSION: The B-SWELL is a feasible intervention for midlife Black women. Positive data trends were found for both B-SWELL and WE groups. Based on observations from the feasibility study, a larger outcomes-based study is planned.


Midlife Black women have a greater chance of dying from heart disease compared to other groups. However, Black women are less likely to receive the education and health care needed to affect this difference. The purpose of this study was to compare a new program, the Midlife Black Women's Stress and Wellness intervention (B-SWELL) to a wellness program (WE). The B-SWELL program uses education, stress reduction, and goal setting to improve healthy lifestyle behaviors in midlife Black women. The WE program provided health education in a group setting but did not offer information about stress or goal setting. We enrolled 48 midlife Black women ages 40­64 years old into the study. The women were randomly assigned to either the B-SWELL or WE program. We proposed that women in the B-SWELL program would have lower stress, improved healthy lifestyle scores, less depression, and fewer symptoms compared to women in the WE program. Both groups experienced lower stress, improved healthy lifestyle scores, and less depression. Women in the B-SWELL had greater improvement in stress and symptoms. In conclusion, the B-SWELL program is practical for midlife Black women. A larger study is planned.

Objective: Coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) vaccine distribution continues to expand; however, increased cutaneous reactions have been reported. Several recent studies suggest a link between COVID-19 vaccination and the development of various cutaneous complications. Lichen planus is a chronic, immune-mediated, inflammatory dermatological illness with an unclear etiology. In this case report, we assessed the relationship between COVID-19 vaccination (Pfizer) and lichen planus diagnosis and evaluated the link between additional doses of the vaccine and disease progression. Methods: Complete clinical, laboratory, and histopathological assessment of a patient was performed with ethical and privacy considerations. Written informed consent for all clinical data, images, and publication was obtained from the patient. Results: New-onset lichen planus appeared 48 hours after the first dose of the Pfizer vaccine. The symptoms worsened following the second dose. The patient responded gradually to topical corticosteroids, and lichen planus was controlled within 21 days. Conclusion: Our case significantly contributes to the literature by highlighting that additional doses of the Pfizer vaccine can contribute to disease progression. Therefore, reporting the patient's condition associated with COVID-19 vaccination should be considered. Future studies should be performed to investigate the combined onset of lichen planus and multisystem COVID-19 vaccine-related complications.

Matcha tea has been used as an adjunct in weight loss programs. The weight loss effects of matcha tea were evaluated in a prospective non-randomized open-label comparative study of overweight and obese individuals who followed a specified low-calorie diet (LCD) plan. A total of 40 participants were enrolled and assigned to either matcha tea or control groups. The matcha tea group followed a LCD plan and received matcha tea once daily, whereas the control group followed only the LCD diet plan. The study lasted 12 weeks. The main outcome measures included anthropometric measurements, fasting blood glucose, hemoglobin A1c (HbA1c), lipid profile, obesity-related hormone peptides, pro-inflammatory and anti-inflammatory cytokines, and oxidative stress biomarkers. Thirty-four participants had completed the study. The matcha tea and control groups showed significant reductions in body weight, body mass index, waist circumference, water content, minerals, and fat mass at week 12. The post-treatment body composition and anthropometric measurements were not significantly different between the two groups. The matcha tea group showed a potential increase in HDL-C, a potential decrease in blood glucose, and a potential increase in HbA1c. Furthermore, the study indicated a potential decrease in insulin and leptin levels, a potential increase in the activity of superoxide dismutase, and a potential decreased activity of glutathione peroxidase. IL-10 was increased by matcha tea consumption. The data suggest that matcha tea may have some potential effect on weight loss, along with anti-inflammatory properties. The findings of this study will be used to design a multicenter randomized clinical trial to examine the potential weight loss benefits of matcha tea.

Superhydrophobic surfaces have gained sustained attention because of their extensive applications in the fields of self-cleaning, anti-icing, and drag reduction systems. Water droplets must have large apparent contact angle (CA) (>150°) and small CA hysteresis (<10°) on these surfaces. However, previous research usually involves complex fabrication strategies to modify the surface wettability. It is also challenging to maintain the temporal and mechanical stability of the delicate surface textures. Here, we develop a one-step solvent-free sand-in method to fabricate robust superhydrophobic surfaces directly atop various substrates with an apparent CA up to ∼163.8° and hysteresis less than 5°. The water repellency can withstand 100 Scotch tape peeling tests and remain stable after being stored under ambient humid conditions in Houston, Texas, for 18 months or being heated at 130 °C in air for 24 h. The superhydrophobic surfaces have excellent anti-icing ability, including a ∼2.6× longer water freezing time and ∼40% smaller ice adhesion strength with the temperature as low as -35 °C. Since the surface layers are fabricated by sanding the substrates with the powder additives, the surface damage can be repaired by a direct re-sanding treatment with the same powder additives. Further sand-in condition screenings broaden surface wettability from hydrophilic to superhydrophobic. The sand-in method induces the surface modification and the formation of the tribofilm. Surface and materials characterizations reveal that both microstructures and nanoscale asperities of the tribofilms contribute to the robust superhydrophobic features of sanded surfaces.

Turbostratic layers in 2D materials have an interlayer misalignment. The lack of alignment expands the intrinsic interlayer distances and weakens the optical and electronic interactions between adjacent layers. This introduces properties distinct from those structures with well-aligned lattices and strong coupling interactions. However, direct and rapid synthesis of turbostratic materials remains a challenge owing to their thermodynamically metastable properties. Here, a flash Joule heating (FJH) method to achieve bulk synthesis of boron-carbon-nitrogen ternary compounds with turbostratic structures by a kinetically controlled ultrafast cooling process that takes place within milliseconds (103  to 104 K s-1 ) is reported. Theoretical calculations support the existence of turbostratic structures and provide estimates of the energy barriers with respect to conversion into the corresponding well-aligned counterparts. When using non-carbon conductive additives, a direct synthesis of boron nitride is possible. The turbostratic nature facilitates mechanical exfoliation and more stable dispersions. Accordingly, the addition of flash products to a poly(vinyl alcohol) nanocomposite film coating a copper surface greatly improves the copper's resistance to corrosion in 0.5 m sulfuric acid or 3.5 wt% saline solution. FJH allows the use of bulk materials as reactants and provides a rapid approach to large quantities of the hitherto hard-to-access turbostratic materials.

ABSTRACT

Plastic waste (PW) and increasing atmospheric carbon dioxide (CO2) levels are among the top environmental concerns presently facing humankind. With an ambitious 2050 zero-CO2 emissions goal, there is a demand for economical CO2 capture routes. Here we show that the thermal treatment of PW in the presence of potassium acetate yields an effective carbon sorbent with pores width of 0.7-1.4 nm for CO2 capture. The PW to carbon sorbent process works with single or mixed streams of polyolefin plastics. The CO2 capacity of the sorbent at 25 °C is 17.0 ± 1.1 wt % (3.80 ± 0.25 mmol g-1) at 1 bar and 5.0 ± 0.6 wt % (1.13 ± 0.13 mmol g-1) at 0.15 bar, and it regenerates upon reaching 75 ± 5 °C. The CO2 capture cost from flue gas via this technology is estimated to be <$21 ton-1 CO2, much lower than competing CO2 capture technologies. Hence, this PW-derived carbon material should find utility in the capture of CO2 from point sources of high CO2 emissions while providing a use for otherwise deleterious PW.

ABSTRACT

BACKGROUND: Headache is one of the most disturbing complaints worldwide, negatively impacting social and regular life activities. In the background of stressful life in medical schools, adding to the stressful situation in Palestine, a developing country under occupation, this study investigated the prevalence and clinical characteristics of migraines and tension- type headaches among medical students from the Palestinian Universities in West Bank and Gaza. METHODS: A questionnaire-based cross-sectional study was conducted on all Palestinian Medical Students. Students were diagnosed based on ICHD-3 criteria. Demographic characteristics were compared by gender for each type of headache. Frequency, percentage, and mean ± SD. Pearson's chi-squared test, independent t-test, and one-way ANOVA were used where needed. P-value < 0.05 was considered significant. RESULTS: The study included 806 medical students; 476 (59.0%) of them were female. TTH and migraine's prevalence was 59.8 and 22%, respectively, with a higher prevalence among basic year students. The female to male ratio was 1:0.6 for both types of headaches. Sleep deprivation, physical activities, and altered sleep patterns were reported as the top triggering factors. CONCLUSIONS: The results demonstrate that the prevalence of both subtypes' primary headache is high among Palestinian medical students, with a higher prevalence among basic year students. The study also showed that these findings are higher than other studies among medical students in other countries.

Our findings expand the known clinical features of trisomy 13 by including ectrodactyly as a possible Trisomy 13-associated limb malformation. We highlight the importance of performing antenatal genetic test to establish more specific treatment plan.

ABSTRACT

Flash Joule heating (FJH), an advanced material synthesis technique, has been used for the production of high-quality carbon materials. Direct current discharge through the precursors by large capacitors has successfully converted carbon-based starting materials into bulk quantities of turbostratic graphene by the FJH process. However, the formation of other carbon allotropes, such as nanodiamonds and concentric carbon materials, as well as the covalent functionalization of different carbon allotropes by the FJH process, remains challenging. Here, we report the solvent-free FJH synthesis of three different fluorinated carbon allotropes: fluorinated nanodiamonds, fluorinated turbostratic graphene, and fluorinated concentric carbon. This is done by millisecond flashing of organic fluorine compounds and fluoride precursors. Spectroscopic analysis confirms the modification of the electronic states and the existence of various short-range and long-range orders in the different fluorinated carbon allotropes. The flash-time-dependent relationship is further demonstrated to control the phase evolution and product compositions.

ABSTRACT

OBJECTIVES: Candidemia incidence has increased in the past few years, with high mortality. Previous studies have reported a variable distribution of Candida spp. among different regions. This study aimed to identify the species found in Candida bloodstream infections, routine antifungal susceptibility testing, and mortality outcomes in an academic medical centre. METHODS: Between January 2012 and December 2018, the positive blood cultures for candidemia infection were retrieved and statistically analysed for species prevalence, susceptibility pattern, and crude mortality at 14, 30, 60 and 90 days. RESULTS: Of 156 candidemia cases, a majority (69.2%) was caused by non-albicans Candida spp. After Candida albicans (30.8%), Candida tropicalis and Candida parapsilosis were the second and third most frequeunt isolates spp, each counting for 23.7%. Acquired resistance was detected in 14.8% of candidemia strains. No other antifungal resistance was detected. The overall crude mortality rates of all species were 29.3%, 47.9%, 56.4%, and 58.0% at 14, 30, 60, and 90 days, respectively. A higher mortality rate was noted in cases of Candida krusei infection (crude mortality 71.4-100%, p = 0.002). CONCLUSION: In this study, a considerable shift to non-albicans Candida causing most bloodstream infections was observed. As such infections pose a serious threat to hospitalised patients, microbiology laboratories are urged to adopt rapid diagnostic and minimal inhibitory concentration-based testing for the detection of susceptible dose-dependent phenotypes. Prospective studies are essential to consider the prognosis of bloodstream infections by various Candida species in a multivariate model.
