ABSTRACT

Pr3+-doped fluorotellurite glass fibers (PDFTFs) were fabricated by using a rod-in-tube method. By using a 976/1400 nm dual-wavelength upconversion pump technique, an intense emission at 605 nm was obtained from a 6 cm long PDFTF, which was attributed to the transition 1D2 → 3H4 of Pr3+ ions. With an increase in power of the 1400 nm laser from ∼34 to ∼136 mW, the spectral bandwidth of the 605 nm emission decreased and the intensity of the 605 nm emission increased monotonically, indicating the generation of 605 nm amplified spontaneous emission (ASE). To the best of our knowledge, this is the first report of 605 nm ASE in PDFTFs. Our results showed that PDFTFs had the potential for constructing red fiber lasers and amplifiers.

ABSTRACT

OBJECTIVES: Limited literature exists on the characteristics of early gastric signet ring cell carcinoma (GSRCC) within 20 mm. This study aimed to explore this type of cancer from several aspects, to provide guidance for early detection and intervention of GSRCC. METHODS: We retrospectively collected data from 24 patients diagnosed with early GSRCC ≤20 mm in Beijing Friendship Hospital from 2016 to 2021. According to tumor size, those lesions were divided into three groups: diminutive group (1-5 mm, n = 4), small group (6-10 mm, n = 12) and intermediate group (11-20 mm, n = 8). The clinicopathologic and endoscopic characteristics of GSRCC were compared among the three groups. RESULTS: Treatment strategies for lesions differed according to the size (p<.05). There were no significant differences among the three groups with regard to age, sex, Helicobacter pylori infection, tumor location and macroscopic type. Lesions were often flat type and more likely to present with discoloration, uneven color, ulceration and submucosal invasion with the increase of diameter. Almost all cases showed abnormal intervening part (IP) under magnifying endoscopy. CONCLUSIONS: The location of early signet ring cell carcinoma is not specific, and the diminutive lesions are often flat. Abnormal IP may be the early endoscopic feature of early GSRCC.

ABSTRACT

Objective: Cardiovascular and cerebrovascular disease (CCVD) remains the most common factor of death around the world. Nursing care plays a key role in the recovery of patients with CCVD. This study was to explore the application of quality care in aged patients with CCVD. Methods: Totally, 74 aged CCVD patients admitted from June 2018 to June 2019 in Dongying People's Hospital were randomly assigned in 2 groups with the same treatment. The control group was treated with routine care intervention, and the observation group was treated with quality care intervention for 12 weeks. Meanwhile, the frequency of agitation behaviors and cognitive ability were assessed, and complication was counted. Results: The observation group showed decreased Cohen-Mansfield Agitation Inventory (CAMI) scores from 47.31 ± 8.27 to 38.73 ± 6.94, raised Mini-Mental State Examination (MMSE) scores from 15.01 ± 3.9 to 19.34 ± 3.15 and Montreal Cognitive Assessment (MoCA) scores from 16.92 ± 5.48 to 20.37 ± 4.16, and reduced complications after quality care intervention. Conclusion: Quality care intervention exerted a better application effect on aged CCVD patients, along with reduction of agitation, improvement of mental condition and behavioral cognitive function, and reduced complications.

ABSTRACT

BACKGROUND: Due to the extent and complexity of its physical, cognitive, and psychological accompaniments, multiple sclerosis has tremendously negative effects on employment outcomes for adults with the disease. OBJECTIVE: This article extends the current understanding of the relationship between disease-related and functional factors and employment status among adults with multiple sclerosis. METHODS: Findings are reported in terms of descriptive statistics and logistic regression. The logistic regression analysis was completed to determine the extent to which disease-related and functional predictors contributed to the overall prediction model for the employment status of adults with MS. RESULTS: The combined variables explained approximately 33% of the variance in employment status. In addition to three items of the Psychological subscale and 12 items of the Physical subscale, one of the items from the Cognitive Functioning Scale contributed to the prediction of employment status. CONCLUSIONS: The findings emphasize the importance of including physical, psychological, and cognitive functioning variables when predicting employment status among adults with multiple sclerosis.

ABSTRACT

The production and increase of damage points in optical components under high energy repetitive pulsed lasers is closely dependent on the effects of light beam intensity modulation. In the present paper, the appearance of laser-induced damage points on surface of K9 glass was observed. The damage is increased toward center. In this way, the center of the focus of laser beam is fully cracked, and the shell-like factures and the refractive-index changing region, which is caused by phase transition, are arranged outward orderly. The transmittance spectrum through the K9 glass and damage point were measured, indicating that the optical transmittances can reduce by over 20% and the declining rate is related to the area of damage points instead of the wavelength, which means that the full fracture of the material will absorb laser energy completely and is similar to the black body. The laser density detection with CCD shows that the damage points can cause the distortion of laser transmission and the scattering effect plays a major role. This kind of modulation effects by damage points can cause inhomogeneity of the laser light intensity distribution, which can induce diffusion of damage in optical components.
