ABSTRACT

BACKGROUND: The diagnosis and treatment of attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) comorbid with epilepsy have been insufficiently addressed in China. We conducted a study in China to investigate the current status, diagnosis, and treatment of ADHD in children to further our understanding of ADHD comorbid with epilepsy, strengthen its management, and improve patients' quality of life. METHODS: We carried out a multicenter cross-sectional survey of children with epilepsy across China between March 2022 and August 2022. We screened all patients for ADHD and compared various demographic and clinical factors between children with and without ADHD, including gender, age, age at epilepsy onset, duration of epilepsy, seizure types, seizure frequency, presence of epileptiform discharges, and treatment status. Our objective was to explore any possible associations between these characteristics and the prevalence of ADHD. RESULTS: Overall, 395 epilepsy patients aged 6-18 years were enrolled. The age at seizure onset and duration of epilepsy ranged from 0.1-18 to 0.5-15 years, respectively. Focal onset seizures were observed in 212 (53.6%) patients, while 293 (76.3%) patients had epileptiform interictal electroencephalogram (EEG) abnormalities. Among the 370 patients treated with anti-seizure medications, 200 (54.1%) had monotherapy. Although 189 (47.8%) patients had ADHD, only 31 received treatment for it, with the inattentive subtype being the most common. ADHD was more common in children undergoing polytherapy compared to those on monotherapy. Additionally, poor seizure control and the presence of epileptiform interictal EEG abnormalities may be associated with a higher prevalence of ADHD. CONCLUSIONS: While the prevalence of ADHD was higher in children with epilepsy than in normal children, the treatment rate was notably low. This highlights the need to give more importance to the diagnosis and treatment of ADHD in children with epilepsy.

OBJECTIVES: Epilepsy and migraine are common chronic neurological disease. Epidemiologic studies and shared pathophysiology and treatment suggest that these two diseases overlap. However, migraine is often underestimated among patients with epilepsy. This study aimed to evaluate the prevalence of migraine and identify the related influencing factors among adult patients with epilepsy. METHODS: Adult patients with epilepsy were recruited at the outpatient epilepsy clinic of 13 tertiary hospitals in China from February to September 2022. ID Migraine questionnaire was applied to evaluate for migraine. Both univariable and multivariable logistic regression models were used to explore the influencing factors of migraine. RESULTS: A total of 1326 patients with epilepsy were enrolled in this study. The prevalence of migraine among patients with epilepsy was 19.2% (254/1326). In the multivariable analysis, being female (OR = 1.451, 95% CI: 1.068-1.975; p = 0.018), focal and focal to bilateral tonic-clonic seizures (OR = 1.583, 95% CI: 1.090-2.281; p = 0.015), and current seizure attack in the last 3 months (OR = 1.967, 95% CI: 1.282-3.063; p = 0.002) were the influencing factors for migraine. However, <10% of patients with epilepsy received analgesics for migraine. SIGNIFICANCE: Approximately 20% of patients with epilepsy screened positive for migraine. Being female, focal and focal to bilateral tonic-clonic seizures, and current seizure attack in the last 3 months were the influencing factors for migraine. Neurologists should pay more attention to the screening and management of the migraine among patients with epilepsy in China. Despite the high prevalence, the treatment for migraine was not optimistic, neurologists should pay more attention to the screening and management of migraine.

ABSTRACT

The primary challenges in tea production under multiple stress exposures have negatively affected its global market sustainability, so introducing an infield fast technique for monitoring tea leaves' stresses has tremendous urgent needs. Therefore, this study aimed to propose an efficient method for the detection of stress symptoms based on a portable smartphone with deep learning models. Firstly, a database containing over 10,000 images of tea garden canopies in complex natural scenes was developed, which included healthy (no stress) and three types of stress (tea anthracnose (TA), tea blister blight (TB) and sunburn (SB)). Then, YOLOv5m and YOLOv8m algorithms were adapted to discriminate the four types of stress symptoms; where the YOLOv8m algorithm achieved better performance in the identification of healthy leaves (98%), TA (92.0%), TB (68.4%) and SB (75.5%). Furthermore, the YOLOv8m algorithm was used to construct a model for differentiation of disease severity of TA, and a satisfactory result was obtained with the accuracy of mild, moderate, and severe TA infections were 94%, 96%, and 91%, respectively. Besides, we found that CNN kernels of YOLOv8m could efficiently extract the texture characteristics of the images at layer 2, and these characteristics can clearly distinguish different types of stress symptoms. This makes great contributions to the YOLOv8m model to achieve high-precision differentiation of four types of stress symptoms. In conclusion, our study provided an effective system to achieve low-cost, high-precision, fast, and infield diagnosis of tea stress symptoms in complex natural scenes based on smartphone and deep learning algorithms.

ABSTRACT

The shuttle effect of soluble lithium polysulfides (LiPSs) poses a crucial challenge for commercializing lithium-sulfur batteries. The functionalization of the separator is an effective strategy for enhancing the cell lifespan through the capture and reuse of LiPSs. Herein, a novel In2O3 nanorod with an ultrathin carbon layer (In2O3@C) was coated on a polypropylene separator. The results demonstrate the adsorption and catalysis of In2O3 on polysulfides, effectively inhibiting the shuttle effect and improving the redox kinetics of LiPSs. Besides, the ultrathin carbon layer increases the reaction sites and accelerates the electrochemical reaction rate. The cell with the In2O3@C interlayer displays excellent reversibility and stability with a 0.029% capacity decay each cycle in 2000 cycles at 2C. In addition, the In2O3@C interlayer significantly improves the cell performance under high current (888.2 mA h g-1 at 2C and room temperature) and low temperature (1007.8 mA h g-1 at 0.1C and -20 °C) conditions.

ABSTRACT

Previous studies have indicated a potential relationship between zinc and epilepsy. The aim of this study is to investigate the causal relationship between zinc, zinc-dependent carbonic anhydrase, and gray matter volume in brain regions enriched with zinc and epilepsy, as well as explore the possible mechanisms by which zinc contributes to epilepsy. First, this study assessed the risk causality between zinc, carbonic anhydrase, and gray matter volume alterations in zinc-enriched brain regions and various subtypes of epilepsy based on Two-sample Mendelian randomization analysis. And then, this study conducted GO/KEGG analysis based on colocalization analysis, MAGMA analysis, lasso regression, random forest model, and XGBoost model. The results of Mendelian randomization analyses showed a causal relationship between zinc, carbonic anhydrase-4, and generalized epilepsy (p = 0.044 , p = 0.010). Additionally, carbonic anhydrase-1 and gray matter volume of the caudate nucleus were found to be associated with epilepsy and focal epilepsy (p = 0.014, p = 0.003 and p = 0.022, p = 0.009). A colocalization relationship was found between epilepsy and focal epilepsy (PP.H4.abf = 97.7e - 2). Meanwhile, the MAGMA analysis indicated that SNPs associated with epilepsy and focal epilepsy were functionally localized to zinc-finger-protein-related genes (p < 1.0e - 5). The genes associated with focal epilepsy were found to have a molecular function of zinc ion binding (FDR = 2.3e - 6). After the onset of epilepsy, the function of the gene whose expression changed in the rats with focal epilepsy was enriched in the biological process of vascular response (FDR = 4.0e - 5). These results revealed mechanism of the increased risk of epilepsy caused by elevated zinc may be related to the increase of zinc ion-dependent carbonic anhydrase or the increase of the volume of zinc-rich caudate gray matter.

ABSTRACT

There is sufficient evidence suggesting that exposure to hexavalent chromium [Cr(VI)] can cause a decline in lung function and the onset of lung diseases. However, no studies have yet explored the underlying mechanisms of these effects from various perspectives such as systemic inflammation, oxidative stress, and cellular senescence, simultaneously. This cross-sectional study was conducted among 304 workers engaged in chromate production and processing in China. Urine was used for detection of 8-hydroxy-2'-deoxyguanosine (8-OHdG) and 8-iso-prostaglandin F2α (8-iso-PGF2α), while RNA and DNA extraction from peripheral blood cells was used for detection of mRNA, telomere length, and ribosomal DNA copy numbers (rDNA CNs). A 2.7-fold elevation in blood chromate (Cr) corresponded to a 7.86% (95% CI: 2.57%, 13.42%) rise in urinary 8-OHdG and a 4.14% (0.02%, 8.42%) increase in urinary 8-iso-PGF2α, indicating that exposure to chromates can cause oxidative stress. Furthermore, strong correlations emerged between blood Cr concentration and mRNA levels of P16, P21, TP53, and P15 in the cellular senescence pathway. Simultaneously, a 2.7-fold elevation in blood Cr associated with a -5.47% (-8.72%, -2.1%) change in telomere length, while rDNA CNs (5S, 5.8S, 18S, and 28S) changed by -3.91% (-7.99%, 0.34%), -9.4% (-15.73%, -2.6%), -8.06% (-14.01%, -1.69%), and -5.86% (-10.67%, -0.78%), respectively. Structural equation model highlighted that cellular senescence exerted significant indirect effects on Cr(VI)-associated lung function decline, with a mediation proportion of 23.3%. This study provided data supporting for 8-iso-PGF2α, telomere length, and rDNA CNs as novel biomarkers of chromate exposure, emphasizing the significant role of cellular senescence in the mechanism underlying chromate-induced lung function decline.

ABSTRACT

Lactococcus garvieae (L. garvieae) is a pathogenic bacterium that is Gram-positive and catalase-negative (GPCN), and it is capable of growing in a wide range of environmental conditions. This bacterium is associated with significant mortality and losses in fisheries, and there are concerns regarding its potential as a zoonotic pathogen, given its presence in cattle and dairy products. While we have identified and characterized virulent strains of L. garvieae through phenotyping and molecular typing studies, their impact on mammary tissue remains unknown. This study aims to investigate the pathogenicity of strong and weak virulent strains of L. garvieae using in vivo mouse models. We aim to establish MAC-T cell model to examine potential injury caused by the strong virulent strain LG41 through the TLR2/NLRP3/NF-kB pathway. Furthermore, we assess the involvement of NLRP3 inflammasome-mediated pyroptosis in dairy mastitis by silencing NLRP3. The outcomes of this study will yield crucial theoretical insights into the potential mechanisms involved in mastitis in cows caused by the L. garvieae-induced inflammatory response in MAC-T cells.

ABSTRACT

Background: Ulcerative colitis (UC) is a chronic non-specific inflammatory disease with intestinal tract as the main site. The pathogenic of UC has not yet been clarified, and multiple mechanisms can lead to the pathogenesis of UC. Traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) offers an opportunity for UC treatment. TCM has become the preferred treatment for UC with characteristics of multiple targets, multiple pathways and high safety. This review attempted to summarize the characteristics of TCM (compound prescriptions, single Chinese herbs, and active ingredients) for UC treatment and discussed their pathogenesis based on analyzing the UC-related gut microbiota, signaling pathway and cytokine. In order to provide more systematic and diverse reference for TCM in the prevention and treatment of UC, and provide theoretical reference for clinical treatment of UC. Materials and methods: The information was acquired from different databases, including Web of Science, PubMed, CNKI, Wanfang, and VIP databases. We then focused on the recent research progress in UC treatment by TCM. Finally, the deficiencies and future perspectives are proposed. Results: Modern pharmacological studies have shown that the compound prescriptions (strengthening spleen, clearing heat and removing dampness, clearing heat and removing toxin), single Chinese herbs (replenishing Qi, clearing heat, tonifying blood, etc.), and active ingredients (alkaloids, polysaccharides, flavonoids, polyphenols, terpenes, etc.) have an efficiency in UC treatment by regulating gut microbiota, signaling pathway and cytokine. Conclusions: TCM can achieve its purpose of UC prevention and treatment by acting in multiple ways, and TCM deserves further research and development in this field.

BACKGROUND: Clozapine is a highly effective second-generation antipsychotic with few extrapyramidal reactions, making it a preferred choice among clinicians. However, instances of acute clozapine poisoning resulting from suicide attempts and misuse have been reported. Through our review of existing literature, we identified that we believe to be the highest recorded overdose of clozapine in elderly patients, resulting in a nonfatal outcome. CASE PRESENTATION: The case report involves a 71-year-old female with a history of depression who ingested a dose of 10,000 mg of clozapine. Approximately 6 h after the overdose, the clozapine level was 5,200 µg/L, significantly surpassing the recommended therapeutic concentration range of 350-600 µg/L. After gastric lavage and hemoperfusion, the blood level dropped to 1847.11 µg/L. Notably, during therapeutic drugs monitoring (TDM), we found a perplexing spike in the patient's blood level to 5554.15 µg/L after the second hemoperfusion. CONCLUSION: In this case we mainly focused on the abnormal fluctuations in the concentration of clozapine. We conducted a comprehensive analysis of potential factors contributing to this abnormal phenomenon in terms of the patient's age, clinical symptoms, various laboratory test indexes, and the pharmacokinetics of clozapine. Our findings underscore the importance of timely TDM and the precision of results in managing elderly patients experiencing high-dose clozapine poisoning.

OBJECTIVES: In this real-world approach, we examined the serum Anti-Mullerian Hormone (AMH) level and the relationship with serum IgG subclass in the infertile women. METHODS: A total of 574 female participants were recruited for this study. The serum AMH, IgG subclass(IgG1, IgG2, IgG3, IgG4) and immunoglobulin (Ig) G、IgM、IgA、IgE as well as complement C3, C4 were analyzed. The difference in serum AMH level was assessed according categorized as above or below the median of the ratio of serum IgG subclass(IgG1, IgG2, IgG3, IgG4) to total IgG (RIgG subclass/IgG). RESULTS: The serum AMH level of the low RIgG1/IgG group is significantly decreased than that high RIgG1/IgG group (p < 0.05). The Spearman correlation analysis showed that the serum AMH level was significantly negatively correlated with age and significantly positively correlated with serum IgG1 levels respectively (p < 0.05). GLMMs multivariate model showed that after adjusting the covariate and possible mixed factors including age, serum immunoglobulin, complement C3 and C4, the serum AMH level was significantly positively correlated with IgG1 level (p < 0.01). CONCLUSIONS: Decreased serum IgG1 may significantly affect the ovarian reserve function of women. Confirmation of this association and elucidation of its underlying mechanisms are needed to place these results in a clinical perspective.

Purpose: There is a scarcity of predictive models currently accessible for prognosticating proliferative hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC), an integrated class of subtype, characterized by a dismal prognosis. Consequently, this study aimed to develop and validate a novel prognostic model capable of accurately predicting the prognosis of proliferative HCC after curative resection. Patients and Methods: This retrospective multicenter study included patients with solitary HCC who underwent curative liver resection from August 2014 to December 2020 (n = 816). Patients were stratified into either the proliferative HCC cohort (n = 259) or the nonproliferative HCC cohort (n = 557) based on histological criteria. Disease-free survival (DFS) was compared between the two groups before and after one-to-one propensity score matching (PSM). Of all the proliferative HCC patients, 203 patients were assigned to training cohort, and 56 patients were assigned to validation cohort. Univariate and multivariate analyses were performed in training cohort to identify risk factors associated with worse DFS. Thereafter, a predictive model was constructed, subsequently validated in the validation cohort. Results: The DFS of proliferative HCC was significantly worse than nonproliferative HCC before and after PSM. Meanwhile, multivariate regression analysis revealed that liver cirrhosis (P = 0.032) and larger tumor size (P = 0.000) were independent risk factors of worse DFS. Lastly, the discriminative abilities of the predictive model for 1, 3, 5-year DFS rates, as determined by receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curves, were 0.702, 0.720, and 0.809 in the training cohort and 0.752, 0.776, and 0.851 in the validation cohort, respectively. Conclusion: This study developed a predictive model with satisfactory accuracy to predict the worse DFS in proliferative HCCs after liver resection. Moreover, this predictive model may serve as a valuable tool for clinicians to predict postoperative HCC recurrence, thereby enabling them to implement early preventative strategies.

The association between short-term ambient air pollution (AAP) exposure and blood lipids is inconsistent across populations. This study aimed to investigate the modifying effects of fasting blood glucose (FBG) levels on the associations between short-term AAP exposure and blood lipids in 110,637 male participants from Beijing, China. The results showed that FBG modified the association between short-term AAP exposure and blood lipids, especially low-density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL-C). In the hyperglycemia group, a 10-µg/m3 increase in particles with diameters ≤ 2.5 µm (PM2.5), particles with diameters ≤ 10 µm (PM10), sulfur dioxide (SO2), nitrogen dioxide (NO2), or a 1-mg/m3 increase in carbon monoxide (CO) was associated with a 0.454%, 0.305%, 1.507%, 0.872%, or 3.961% increase in LDL-C, respectively. In the nonhyperglycemic group, short-term increases in air pollutants were even associated with small decreases in LDL-C. The findings demonstrate that lipids in hyperglycemic individuals are more vulnerable to short-term AAP exposure than those in normal populations.

ABSTRACT

Dyslipidemia is a critical factor in the development of atherosclerosis and consequent cardiovascular disease. Numerous pieces of evidence demonstrate the association between air pollution and abnormal blood lipids. Although the results of epidemiological studies on the link between air pollution and blood lipids are unsettled due to different research methods and conditions, most of them corroborate the harmful effects of air pollution on blood lipids. Mechanism studies have revealed that air pollution may affect blood lipids via oxidative stress, inflammation, insulin resistance, mitochondrial dysfunction, and hypothalamic hormone and epigenetic changes. Moreover, there is a risk of metabolic diseases associated with air pollution, including fatty liver disease, diabetes mellitus, and obesity, which are often accompanied by dyslipidemia. Therefore, it is biologically plausible that air pollution affects blood lipids. The overall evidence supports that air pollution has a deleterious effect on blood lipid health. However, further research into susceptibility, indoor air pollution, and gaseous pollutants is required, and the issue of assessing the effects of mixtures of air pollutants remains an obstacle for the future.

ABSTRACT

Posttraumatic epilepsy (PTE) is a severe complication arising from a traumatic brain injury caused by various violent actions on the brain. The underlying mechanisms for the pathogenesis of PTE are complex and have not been fully defined. Approximately, one-third of patients with PTE are resistant to antiepileptic therapy. Recent research evidence has shown that neuroinflammation is critical in the development of PTE. This article reviews the immune-inflammatory mechanisms regarding microglial activation, astrocyte proliferation, inflammatory signaling pathways, chronic neuroinflammation, and intestinal flora. These mechanisms offer novel insights into the pathophysiological mechanisms of PTE and have groundbreaking implications in the prevention and treatment of PTE. Immunoinflammatory cross-talk between glial cells and gut microbiota in posttraumatic epilepsy. This graphical abstract depicts the roles of microglia and astrocytes in posttraumatic epilepsy, highlighting the influence of the gut microbiota on their function. ABSTRACT

Background: Juvenile myoclonus epilepsy (JME) is an idiopathic generalized epilepsy syndrome. Functional connectivity studies based on graph theory have demonstrated changes in functional connectivity among different brain regions in patients with JME and healthy controls. However, previous studies have not been able to clarify why visual stimulation or increased cognitive load induces epilepsy symptoms in only some patients with JME. Methods: This study constructed a small-world network for the visualization of functional connectivity of brain regions in patients with JME, based on system mapping. We used the node reduction method repeatedly to identify the core nodes of the resting brain network of patients with JME. Thereafter, a functional connectivity network of the core brain regions in patients with JME was established, and it was analyzed manually with white matter tracks restriction to explain the differences in symptom distribution in patients with JME. Results: Patients with JME had 21 different functional connections in their resting state, and no significant differences in their distribution were noted. The thalamus, cerebellum, basal ganglia, supplementary motor area, visual cortex, and prefrontal lobe were the core brain regions that comprised the functional connectivity network in patients with JME during their resting state. The betweenness centrality of the prefrontal lobe and the visual cortex in the core functional connectivity network of patients with JME was lower than that of the other brain regions. Conclusion: The functional connectivity and node importance of brain regions of patients with JME changed dynamically in the resting state. Abnormal discharges originating from the thalamus, cerebellum, basal ganglia, supplementary motor area, visual cortex, and prefrontal cortex are most likely to lead to seizures in patients with JME. ABSTRACT

Passive daytime radiative cooling (PDRC) relies on simultaneous reflection of sunlight and radiation toward cold outer space. Current designs of PDRC coatings have demonstrated potential as eco-friendly alternatives to traditional electrical air conditioning (AC). While many features of PDRC have been individually optimized in different studies, for practical impact, it is essential for a system to demonstrate excellence in all essential aspects, like the materials that nature has created. We propose a bioinspired PDRC structure templated by bicontinuous interfacially jammed emulsion gels (bijels) that possesses excellent cooling, thinness, tunability, scalability, and mechanical robustness. The unique bicontinuous disordered structure captures key features of Cyphochilus beetle scales, enabling a thin (130 µm) bijel PDRC coating to achieve high solar reflectance (≳0.97) and high longwave-infrared (LWIR) emissivity (≳0.93), resulting in a subambient temperature drop of ∼5.6 °C under direct sunlight. We further demonstrate switchable cooling inspired by the exoskeleton of the Hercules beetle and mechanical robustness in analogy to spongy bone structures.

ABSTRACT

Background: Depression and anxiety are the most common psychiatric comorbidities in patients with epilepsy (PWE). However, they are often unrecognized and consequently untreated. Objective: The study was conducted to evaluate the prevalence and risk factors of anxiety and depression among Chinese adult PWE. Design: Cross-sectional study. Methods: Adult PWE were recruited from 13 tertiary epilepsy centers from February to September 2022. Generalized Anxiety Disorder-7 and Neurological Disorders Depression Inventory for Epilepsy were applied to evaluate anxiety and depression, respectively. Both univariate and multivariate logistic regression analyses models were performed to explore the risk factors of anxiety and depression. Results: A total of 1326 PWE were enrolled in this study. The prevalence of anxiety and depression was 31.45% and 27.30%, respectively. Being female [odds ratio (OR) = 1.467, 95% CI: 1.134-1.899; p = 0.004], focal and focal to bilateral tonic-clonic seizures (TCSZ) (OR = 1.409, 95% CI: 1.021-1.939; p = 0.036), and seizure occurrence in the last 3 months (OR = 1.445, 95% CI: 1.026-2.044; p = 0.036) were the risk factors for anxiety. Focal and focal to bilateral TCSZ (OR = 1.531, 95% CI: 1.094-2.138; p = 0.013) and seizure occurrence in the last 3 months (OR = 1.644, 95% CI: 1.130-2.411; p = 0.010) were the risk factors for depression. In addition, for every 1-year increment of age, the odds of developing depression were decreased by 3.8% (p = 4.12e-5). Nevertheless, up to 70% of PWE did not receive any treatment for comorbidity. Conclusion: There were approximately 30% of PWE screened positive for anxiety or depression. Both focal and focal to bilateral TCSZ and seizure occurrence in the last 3 months were estimated as risk factors for anxiety and depression. However, the current status of treatment was not optimal.

Lactococcus lactis (L. lactis) is the primary organism for lactic acid bacteria (LAB) and is a globally recognized safe microorganism for the regulation of the intestinal micro-ecological balance of animals and improving the immune performance of the host. L. lactis is known to play a commercially important role in feed fortification, milk fermentation, and vaccine production, but pathogenic L. lactis has been isolated from many clinical cases in recent years, such as the brain of silver carp with Lactococcosis, the liver and spleen of diseased waterfowl, milk samples and padding materials with cow mastitis, and blood and urine from human patients with endocarditis. In dairy farming, where L. lactis has been used as a probiotic in the past, however, some studies have found that L. lactis can cause mastitis in cows, but the lack of understanding of the pathogenesis of mastitis in cows caused by L. lactis has become a new problem. The main objective of this review is to analyze the increasingly serious clinical mastitis caused by L. lactis and combined with the wide application of L. lactis as probiotics, to comprehensively discuss the characteristics and diversity of L. lactis.

Background: Increasing evidence has highlighted that systemic immune-inflammation index (SII), a recently developed prognostic biomarker that utilizes peripheral platelet, lymphocyte and neutrophil counts, is associated with unfavorable prognosis in various tumors. Nevertheless, the prognostic significance of SII in high-grade gliomas patients undergoing radical resection remains unclear. Therefore, the present study aimed to assess the potential of SII as a prognostic biomarker in this patient population. Methods: A total of 111 adult patients with high-grade gliomas who underwent radical resection were consecutively enrolled in this investigation. The study involved the categorization of patients into high and low SII groups using predetermined cut-off values. Subsequently, forward stepwise logistic regression was employed to identify autonomous predictors for early gliomas recurrence. To mitigate the impact of confounding factors, a propensity score matching (PSM) analysis was performed between high and low SII patients. Finally, the Kaplan-Meier approach was utilized to compare the progression-free survival (PFS) and overall survival (OS) of the two groups. Results: The study involved the categorization of patients into two groups based on their SII levels, namely high SII (> 604.8) and low SII (≤ 604.8) groups. Forward stepwise logistic regression revealed that high SII (p < 0.001) and tumor size ≥ 50 mm (p < 0.001) were significantly related to early recurrence of gliomas. Furthermore, the results indicate that PFS and OS were significantly shorter in the high SII group compared to the low SII group, both before and after PSM (p < 0.05). Conclusion: Preoperative biomarker SII can serve as a prognostic biomarker for early recurrence and prognosis in patients with high-grade gliomas undergoing radical resection. Furthermore, the combination of tumor size and SII demonstrates a robust predictive capacity for early recurrence and prognosis in this patient population.
