ABSTRACT

Nitazoxanide (NTZ) is an effective antiparasitic drug with potent antiviral and antimicrobial activity. This randomized, open-label, 2-sequence, 2-period crossover trial was designed to evaluate the bioequivalence (BE) of the NTZ dry suspension in healthy subjects and investigated the effect of food intake on the pharmacokinetic (PK) properties of tizoxanide (an active metabolite of NTZ, TIZ). Sixty healthy Chinese subjects were enrolled and received a single dose of 500 mg/25 mL of preparations on days 1 and 4 under overnight fasting or fed conditions, respectively. The plasma concentration of TIZ was determined using high-performance liquid chromatography/tandem mass spectrometry. PK parameters were calculated using WinNonlin 8.2 and BE was evaluated using SAS 9.4. The 90% confidence intervals for the geometric mean ratio (test/reference) of maximum concentration (Cmax), the area under the curve from time 0 to the time of the last quantifiable concentration (AUC0-t), and the area under the curve from time 0 to extrapolation to infinity (AUC0-∞) were all within the equivalent interval of 80%-125%, compliant with BE requirements. In comparison with fasting, on taking the reference and test preparations of the NTZ dry suspension after a meal, the AUC0-t increased by 48.9% and 47.3%, respectively, the AUC0-∞ increased by 48.4% and 48.3%, respectively, and the post-meal Tmax was prolonged by 1.8-2 hours. Our results demonstrate that the test and reference preparations were bioequivalent. High-fat meals significantly improve the degree of drug absorption and delay the rate of drug absorption.

ABSTRACT

OBJECTIVES: To explore the prevalence and associated factors of obesity in Tibetan adults in Qinghai, China, and to determine the association between the FTO (rs1121980 and rs17817449) and MC4R gene (rs17782313 and rs12970134) polymorphisms with obesity. METHODS: A cross-sectional survey was conducted in 2015 in Qinghai to selected Tibetan adults aged 20 to 80 years. Prevalence of obesity (BMI ≥ 28 kg/m2) and overweight (BMI 24 ~ 27.9 kg/m2) were evaluated. Multivariable logistic models were used to determine the associated factors. Pair-matched subjects of obesity cases and normal-weight controls were selected for the gene polymorphism analyses. Conditional logistic models were used to assess the association between gene polymorphisms with obesity. Additive and multiplicative gene-environment interactions were tested. RESULTS: A total of 1741 Tibetan adults were enrolled. The age- and sex- standardized prevalence of obesity and overweight was 18.09% and 31.71%, respectively. Male sex, older age, heavy level of leisure-time exercise, current smoke, and heavy level of occupational physical activity were associated with both obesity and overweight. MC4R gene polymorphisms were associated with obesity in Tibetan adults. No significant gene-environment interaction was detected. CONCLUSION: The prevalence of obesity and overweight in Tibetan adults was high. Both environmental and genetic factors contributed to the obesity prevalent.

ABSTRACT

Acquired hemophilia A (AHA) is a rare but serious bleeding disorder. Randomized controlled trial (RCT) comparing the efficacy of immunosuppression therapy for AHA lacks. We conducted the first multicenter RCT aiming to establish whether the single-dose rituximab combination regimen was noninferior to the cyclophosphamide combination regimen. From 2017 to 2022, 63 patients with newly diagnosed AHA from five centers were randomly assigned 1:1 to receive glucocorticoid (methylprednisolone 0.8 mg/kg per day for the first 3 weeks and then tapered) plus single-dose rituximab (375 mg/m2 ; n = 31) or plus cyclophosphamide (2 mg/kg per day until inhibitor becomes negative, for a maximum of 5 weeks; n = 32). The primary outcome was complete remission (CR, defined as FVIII activity ≥50 IU/dL, FVIII inhibitor undetectable, immunosuppression tapered and no bleeding for 24 h without bypassing agents) rate measured within 8 weeks. The noninferiority margin was an absolute difference of 20%. Twenty-four (77.4%) patients in the rituximab group and 22 (68.8%) patients in the cyclophosphamide group achieved CR, which showed the noninferiority of the single-dose rituximab-based regimen (absolute difference = -8.67%, lower limit of the 95% confidence interval = -13.11%; Pnoninferiority = 0.005). No difference was found in the incidence of treatment-related adverse events. Single-dose rituximab plus glucocorticoid regimen showed similar efficacy and safety, without a reported risk of secondary malignancies or reproductive toxicity seen in cyclophosphamide, it might be recommended as a first-line therapy for AHA, especially in China where there is a young age trend in AHA patients. This trial was registered at ClinicalTrials.gov as #NCT03384277.

ABSTRACT

In this study, all-inorganic perovskite quantum dots (QDs) for pure blue emission are explored for full-color displays. We prepared CsPbBr3 and Cs3NdCl6 QDs via hot injection methods and mixed in various ratios at room temperature for color blending. Nd-doped CsPb(Cl/Br)3 QDs showed a blueshift in emission, and the photoluminescence quantum yields (PLQY, ΦPL) were lower in the 460-470 nm range due to surface halogen and Cs vacancies. To address this, we introduced a silane molecule, APTMS, via a ligand exchange process, effectively repairing these vacancies and enhancing Nd doping into the lattice. This modification promotes the PLQY to 94% at 466 nm. Furthermore, combining these QDs with [1]Benzothieno[3,2-b][1]benzothiophene (BTBT), a conjugated small-molecule semiconductor, in a composite film reduced PLQY loss caused by FRET in solid-state QD films. This approach achieved a wide color gamut of 124% National Television System Committee (NTSC), using a UV LED backlight and RGB perovskite QDs in a BTBT-based organic matrix as the color conversion layer. Significantly, the photostability of this composite was enhanced when used as a color conversion layer (CCL) under blue-LED excitation.

ABSTRACT

INTRODUCTION: Stroke is closely related to cognitive function, and many patients experience cognitive impairment after stroke; however, whether cognitive impairment is associated with an increased risk of stroke remains inconclusive. This study aims to investigate whether cognitive impairment is associated with new-onset stroke (first ever nonfatal stroke) using a national prospective study. METHODS: Data from the China Health and Retirement Longitudinal Study (CHARLS) from 2011 to 2018 were used. A total of 11,961 Chinese participants aged ≥45 years without a history of stroke were included in the present study and divided into a cognitive impairment group and a normal group according to the baseline cognitive score. Logistic regression analysis was used to analyse the association between baseline cognitive function and new-onset stroke. RESULTS: During the 6.96-year follow-up period, 875 participants experienced new-onset stroke. Compared with the cognitively normal group, the odds ratio (95% confidence intervals) for new-onset stroke in the cognitively impaired group was 1.21 (1.04, 1.40) when not adjusted for confounders and 1.22 (1.01, 1.48) after adjusting for established confounding factors, including demographic data, medical history, physical examination, and laboratory indicators. CONCLUSION: Cognitive impairment was associated with new-onset stroke among middle-aged and elderly Chinese individuals. Further studies should be carried out to confirm the causal relationship between cognitive impairment and stroke.

ABSTRACT

The modern world is facing chaos of different connected issues. Achieving sustainability in the tourism industry for poverty reduction is one of them, having limited guidance for stakeholders. Thus, following SDG-3 guidelines for good well-being via tourism development could contribute to SDG-1 for no poverty. This roadmap needs scientific validation. Therefore, this research aims to determine how much of an overall impact tourism has on alleviating poverty and what factors account for the wide range of estimates of that impact. Using data from 2002 to 2020 and the ARDL model with eight variables, including (a) currency supply, (b) GDP per capita, and (c) tourism earnings higher GDP area, the current emphasis is on reducing the likelihood of any negative impacts this business may have on tourism. Lower Gross Domestic Product (GDP) regions, higher profits per capita from tourism, and reduced poverty all have a role. With a 1% significance threshold, the observed data becomes more convincing. Last, the results show that the Laotian government intends for tourism to contribute to long-term environmentally responsible financial development. In addition, the study's empirical results corroborated the conclusion that policymakers should encourage the successful expansion of the tourist industry.

ABSTRACT

Rational ligand passivation is essential to achieve a higher performance of weakly confined lead halide perovskite quantum dots (PQDs) via a mechanism of surface chemistry and/or microstrain. In situ passivation with 3-mercaptopropyltrimethoxysilane (MPTMS) produces CsPbBr3 PQDs with an enhanced photoluminescence quantum yield (PLQY, ΦPL) of up to 99%; meanwhile, charge transport of the PQD film can be enhanced by one order of magnitude. Herein, we examine the effect of the molecular structure of MPTMS as the ligand exchange agent in comparison to octanethiol. Both thiol ligands promote crystal growth of PQDs, inhibit nonradiative recombination, and cause blue-shifted PL, while the silane moiety of MPTMS manipulates surface chemistry and outperforms owing to its unique cross-linking chemistry characterized by FTIR vibrations at 908 and 1641 cm-1. Emergence of the diagnostic vibrations is ascribed to hybrid ligand polymerization arising from the silyl tail group that confers the advantages of narrower size dispersion, lower shell thickness, more static surface binding, and higher moisture resistance. In contrast, the superior electrical property of the thiol-passivated PQDs is mostly determined by the covalent S-Pb bonding on the interface.

ABSTRACT

Objectives: The aim of this study was to explore spousal similarities in cardiovascular risk factors in northern China. Methods: We conducted a cross-sectional study of married couples from Beijing, Hebei, Gansu, and Qinghai provinces between 2015 and 2019. A total of 2,020 couples were included in the final analyses. The spousal similarities for metabolic indicators and cardiovascular risk factors (including lifestyle factors and cardiometabolic diseases) were evaluated using Spearman's correlation and logistic regression analyses, respectively. Results: All metabolic indicators showed positive spousal correlations (p < 0.001), with the strongest for fasting blood glucose (r = 0.30) and the lowest for high-density lipoprotein cholesterol (r = 0.08). Significant husband-wife associations were observed for several cardiovascular risk factors except for hypertension in multivariable models, with the strongest association for physical inactivity (odds ratios with 95% confidence intervals of 3.59 [2.85, 4.52] and 3.54 [2.82, 4.46] for husbands and wives, respectively). In addition, the interaction of age with spousal overweight/obesity status was statistically significant, and the association was stronger in people ≥50 years. Conclusion: There were spousal similarities in cardiovascular risk factors. The finding may have public health implications that targeted screening and interventions for spouses of people with cardiovascular risk factors.

BACKGROUND: Hand grip strength (HGS) is a powerful indicator of sarcopenia and other adverse health outcomes. Normative values for HGS for general Chinese people with a broad age spectrum are lacking. This study aims to establish normative values of HGS and explore the correlations between HGS and body composition among unselected people aged 8-80 in China. METHODS: From 2012 to 2017, 39 655 participants aged 8-80 years in the China National Health Survey were included. Absolute HGS was measured using a Jamar dynamometer. The relative HGS was normalized by body mass index. Body composition indexes included body mass index, body fat percentage, muscle mass, fat mass index (FMI) and muscle mass index (MMI). Sex-specific smoothed centile tables for the P1 , P5 , P25 , P50 , P75 , P95 and P99 centiles of HGS and body composition were generated using lambda-mu-sigma method. The correlations between muscle strength and body composition were estimated by partial Spearman correlation analysis. RESULTS: The median values (25th and 75th percentile) of HGS in boys and girls (8-19 years old) were 22 (14, 34) kg and 18 (12, 22) kg, respectively; in men and women aged 20-80 were 39 (33, 44) kg and 24 (20, 27) kg, respectively. Values of upper and lower HGS across ages had three periods: an increase to a peak in the 20 s in men (with the 5th and 95th values of 30 and 55 kg, respectively) and 30 s in women (with the 5th and 95th values of 18 and 34 kg, respectively), preservation through midlife (20s-40 s), and then a decline after their 50 s. The lowest HGS values in both sexes were in the 70- to 80-year-old group, with the 5th and 95th percentile values of 16 and 40 kg in men, and 10 and 25 kg in women. There were substantial sex differences in body composition in the life course (all P values <0.001). In ageing, the decrease of muscle strength was faster than that of muscle mass in both sexes. The correlations between muscle mass and HGS were most robust than other correlations, especially in women (0.68 vs. 0.50), children and adolescents. CONCLUSIONS: Our study established the age- and sex-specific percentile reference values for hand grip strength in an unselected Chinese population across a broad age-spectrum. The rich data can facilitate the practical appraisal of muscle strength and promote early prediction of sarcopenia and other impairments associated with neuromuscular disorders.

BACKGROUND: The relationship between muscle mass and fat mass might be an indicator to assess the cardiometabolic risk independently from overweight/obesity, but evidence from a representative general Chinese population is lacking. OBJECTIVE: To understand the age- and sex-specific associations between muscle-to-fat ratio (MFR) and cardiometabolic risks in Chinese population. METHODS: 31,178 (12,526 men and 18,652 women) subjects from the China National Health Survey were included. Muscle mass and fat mass were assessed by a bioelectrical impedance device. MFR was calculated as muscle mass divided by fat mass. Systolic blood pressure (SBP) and diastolic blood pressure (DBP), serum lipids, fasting plasma glucose and serum uric acid were measured. General linear regressions, quantile regressions and restricted cubic-spline (RCS) regressions were applied to assess the effect of MFR on cardiometabolic profiles. RESULTS: Per unit increase of MFR was associated with a 0.631 (0.759-0.502) mmHg SBP decrease in men, 2.648 (3.073-2.223) in women; 0.480 (0.568-0.392) mmHg DBP decrease in men, 2.049 (2.325-1.774) in women; a 0.054 (0.062-0.046) mmol/L total cholesterol decrease in men, 0.147 (0.172-0.122) in women; 0.084 (0.098-0.070) mmol/L triglycerides decrease in men, 0.225 (0.256-0.194) in women; a 0.045 (0.054-0.037) mmol/L low-density lipoprotein decrease in men, 0.183 (0.209-0.157) in women; a 2.870 (2.235-3.506) µmol/L serum uric acid decrease in men, 13.352 (14.967-11.737) in women; and a 0.027 (0.020-0.033) mmol/L high-density lipoprotein increase in men, 0.112 (0.098-0.126) mmol/L in women. The effect in overweight/obese people was much significant than in under/normal weight counterparts. The RCS curves revealed both linear and non-linear relationships between increased MFR and lower cardiometabolic risk. CONCLUSIONS: Muscle-to-fat ratio is independently associated with multiple cardiometabolic parameters among Chinese adults. Higher MFR is related with better cardiometabolic health, and the effect is much significant in overweight/obese people and women.

Pearls are an edible and medicinal resource with whitening activity and nutritional value in China. In the previous study, we found that the pearl shell meat hydrolysate showed dual activities of antioxidation and tyrosinase inhibition, which were similar to the activities of pearls. In this research, a pearl shell meat hydrolysate was isolated, identified and screened by molecular docking, and three peptides FLF, SPSSS and WLL with high tyrosinase inhibitory activities were obtained. The results indicated that FLF, SPSSS and WLL could effectively inhibit tyrosinase activities and the inhibition rates (1.0 mg mL-1) were 54.32%, 65.26% and 57.50%, respectively. The results of a zebrafish whitening experiment showed that the tyrosinase activities of zebrafish treated with FLF, SPSSS and WLL decreased by 75.41%, 62.87% and 64.99% (p < 0.05), respectively, and the melanin content decreased by 37.34%, 38.52% and 40.39% (p < 0.05), respectively. In a B16F10 cell whitening experiment, compared with a control group, FLF, SPSSS and WLL also showed a significant whitening effect, the tyrosinase activities decreased by 84.08%, 79.08% and 77.45% (p < 0.05), respectively, and the melanin content decreased by 42.23%, 34.37% and 34.02% (p < 0.05), respectively. Moreover, the active peptides could act on three signal pathways including Wnt/ß-catenin, MAPK and MC1R/α-MSH and significantly downregulated the expressions of the signaling factors WNT4, MITF, ß-catenin, ERK, JNK, TRP1 and TRP2 (p < 0.05). The results demonstrated that the whitening active peptides were edible natural antioxidants, tyrosinase inhibitors and skin anti-melanin agents, which could be added to functional foods as food ingredients.

ABSTRACT

Free radicals are associated with aging and many diseases. Antioxidant peptides with good antioxidant activity and absorbability are one of the hotspots in antioxidant researches. In our study, pearl shell (Pinctada martensii) meat hydrolysate was purified, and after identification by proteomics, six novel antioxidant peptides SPSSS, SGTAV, TGVAS, GGSIT, NSVAA, and GGSLT were screened by bioinformatics analysis. The antioxidant peptides exhibited good cellular antioxidant activity (CAA) and the CAA of SGTAV (EC50: 0.009 mg/mL) and SPSSS (EC50: 0.027 mg/mL) were better than that of positive control GSH (EC50: 0.030 mg/mL). In the AAPH-induced oxidative damage models, the antioxidant peptides significantly increased the viability of HepG2 cells, and the cell viability of SGTAV, SPSSS, and NAVAA were significantly restored from 79.41% to 107.43% and from 101.09% and 100.09%, respectively. In terms of antioxidant mechanism by molecular docking, SGTAV, SPSSS, and NAVAA could tightly bind to free radicals (DPPH and ABTS), antioxidant enzymes (CAT and SOD), and antioxidant channel protein (Keap1), suggesting that the antioxidant peptides had multiple antioxidant activities and had structure-activity linkages. This study suggests that the antioxidant peptides above are expected to become new natural materials for functional food industries, which contribute to the high-value applications of pearl shell meat.

ABSTRACT

The dynamic output feedback H∞ (DOFH) control under imperfect premise matching (IPM) is studied in this paper for continuous-time Takagi-Sugeno (T-S) fuzzy systems. Different from the existing results, the DOFH switching controller, which enjoys membership functions (MFs) distinct from the fuzzy systems, is designed. First, the non-quadratic Lyapunov function (NQLF) based on MFs is utilized to design the controller. The time derivatives of MFs are addressed by the switching strategy. Second, a method based on linear matrix inequality (LMI) is given to make the controller gains solvable. Third, an improved method is developed to incorporate the more boundary information of MFs into the stability conditions to reduce conservatism. Finally, three examples are used to certify the advantage of the approach.

BACKGROUND: The effects of the fat-to-muscle ratio (FMR) on hyperuricemia and a reduction in the estimated glomerular filtration rate (eGFR) are still unclear. METHODS: Data from the China National Health Survey were used to explore the associations of the FMR with hyperuricemia and reduced eGFR. The fat mass and muscle mass were measured through bioelectrical impedance analysis. Mediation analysis was used to estimate the mediated effect of hyperuricemia on the association between the FMR and reduced eGFR. RESULTS: A total of 31171 participants were included. For hyperuricemia, compared with the Q1 of the FMR, the ORs (95% CI) of Q2, Q3 and Q4 were 1.60 (1.32-1.95), 2.31 (1.91-2.80) and 2.71 (2.15-3.43) in men and 1.91 (1.56-2.34), 2.67 (2.12-3.36) and 4.47 (3.40-5.89) in women. For the reduced eGFR, the ORs (95% CI) of Q2, Q3 and Q4 of the FMR were 1.48 (1.18-1.87), 1.38 (1.05-1.82) and 1.45 (1.04-2.04) in men aged 40-59, but no positive association was found in younger men or in women. Hyperuricemia mediated the association between the FMR and reduced eGFR in men. The OR (95% CI) of the indirect effect was 1.08 (1.05-1.10), accounting for 35.11% of the total effect. CONCLUSIONS: The FMR was associated with hyperuricemia and reduced eGFR, and the associations varied based on sex and age. The effect of the FMR on the reduced eGFR was significantly mediated by hyperuricemia in men.

Reproductive factors have been demonstrated to be associated with hyperuricemia. Body composition is an essential determinant influencing serum uric acid (SUA), but it is largely unknown whether increased SUA was influenced by changed body composition during the menopausal transition. As a secondary analysis of China National Health Survey from 2012-to 2017, this study included 18,997 women aged 20 to 80. Menarche age and menopause information were collected by questionnaire interview. Body mass index (BMI), body fat percentage (BFP), fat mass index (FMI), and fat-free mass index (FFMI) were used as body composition indexes. Hyperuricemia was defined as SUA higher than 360µmol/L (approximately 6 mg/dl). Mediation analysis was performed to explore the direct and indirect effects of menopause on hyperuricemia. A 1:2 age-matched case-control data set (n=6202) was designed to control age-related confounders and was used in multivariable analyses. After adjustment of covariates, postmenopausal women had 14.08 (10.89-17.27) µmol/L higher SUA than their premenopausal counterparts. Overweight/obesity and higher levels of BFP, FMI, and FFMI were all found to be positively associated with hyperuricemia. The mediation analysis showed that the total effect of menopause on hyperuricemia was positive, but was substantially mediated by body composition indexes. Forty-five percent of the total effect can be attributed to the indirect effect mediated by BMI (OR for the natural indirect effect (NIE): 1.09, 95%CI: 1.04-1.13), and over 80% mediated by BFP (OR for NIE: 1.23, 95%CI: 1.16-1.29). However, FFMI did not present the mediated role in the association (OR for NIE: 0.99, 95%CI: 0.96-1.02). The findings revealed that body composition, especially the fat mass indexes, significantly mediated the association between menopause and hyperuricemia. The role of body composition as mediator constitutes clinical and public health significance that should be recognized and considered in healthcare for women experiencing their menopause transition.

ABSTRACT

Waldenström macroglobulinemia/lymphoplasmacytoid lymphoma (WM/LPL) is a rare lymphoproliferative neoplasm characterized by clonally related lymphocytes, lymphoplasmacytic cells, and plasma cell proliferation. WM/LPL patients commonly present with elevated immunoglobulin, predominantly immunoglobulin M (IgM). Previous studies reported that thyroid dysfunction was associated with the development and progression of solid tumors. However, only limited information is available on the correlation between thyroid complications and lymphoid malignancies. The aim of our study was to explore the prognostic significance of thyroid complications in WM/LPL. Herein, 13.3% of WM/LPL patients were diagnosed with thyroid complications, which were significantly associated with unfavorable progression-free survival (PFS), overall survival (OS), and adverse treatment response. Co-existing thyroid disease was significantly related to alleviated serum IgM levels, providing an answer to practical problems. Furthermore, the presence of thyroid complications was identified as an independent prognostic indicator for PFS in WM/LPL. Incorporating the ISSWM score with thyroid complications was superior to ISSWM alone in risk stratification and prognostic prediction. Furthermore, subgroup analyses of WM/LPL patients revealed that subclinical hypothyroidism predicted undesirable outcomes at the early stage. These results were also supported by independent microarray dataset analyses. In conclusion, the primary strength of this study is that it provides robust real-world evidence on the prognostic role of thyroid complications, highlighting further clinical concerns in the management of WM/LPL patients.

Alcohol intake and excess adiposity are associated with serum uric acid (SUA), but their interaction effect on hyperuricemia (HUA) remains unclear. Using data from the China National Health Survey (CNHS) (2012-2017), we analyzed the additive interaction of beer, spirits intake, excess adiposity [measured by body mass index (BMI), body fat percentage (BFP), and visceral fat index (VFI)] with HUA among male participants aged 20-80 from mainland China. The relative excess risk due to interaction (RERI), the attributable proportion due to interaction (AP), and the synergy index (SI) were calculated to assess the interaction effect on the additive scale. Both RERI and AP larger than 0 and SI larger than 1 indicate a positive additive interaction. Among 12,592 male participants, the mean SUA level was 367.1 ± 85.5 µmol/L and 24.1% were HUA. Overweight/obese men who were presently drinking spirits had an odds ratio (OR) of 3.20 (95%CI: 2.71-3.79) than the never drink group, with RERI, AP, and SI of 0.45 (95%CI: 0.08-0.81), 0.14 (95%CI: 0.03-0.25), and 1.25 (95%CI: 1.02-1.54), respectively. However, although combined exposures on beer intake and excess adiposity had the highest OR compared with no beer intake and nonobese participants, there was no additive interaction, with RERI, AP, and SI in the overweight/obesity and the beer intake group of 0.58 (-0.41-1.57), 0.17 (-0.08-0.41), and 1.30 (0.85-1.97), respectively. Other excess adiposity indexes revealed similar estimates. Our findings suggested that the exposures of both excess adiposity and alcohol drink could result in an additive interaction effect on HUA: the combined risk of excess adiposity with spirits intake but not with beer was greater than the sum of the effects among Chinese male adults.

All-inorganic cesium lead halide perovskite (CsPbX3; X = Cl, Br) nanocrystals (NCs) are synthesized via a modified hot injection method using 3-mercaptopropyltrimethoxysilane (MPTMS), together with oleic acid and oleylamine, for in situ passivation of the surface defects. The surface chemistry, revealed by Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR) and x-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) techniques, shows an absence of Si-O-Si network and C-O groups on these in situ passivated CsPbX3 NCs, denoted as InMP-CsPbX3, which is in strong contrast to the counterpart NCs obtained via a postsynthesis exchange strategy. The x-ray diffraction (XRD) pattern indicates a lattice structure significantly strained from the cubic structure. The synthesis of these InMP-CsPbX3 NCs is highly reproducible, and the colloids are stable in nonpolar solvents. The emission wavelength of CsPb(Cl/Br)3 mixed halide perovskite NCs is tuned from 405 nm to 508 nm by reducing the nominal Cl/Br ratio, while the photoluminescence quantum yield (PLQY) is greatly enhanced over the whole spectral range. More importantly, the InMP-treatment is among the few strategies that are promising for electroluminescence in light-emitting diodes.

OBJECTIVES: Antithymocyte globulin is extensively used for prophylaxis of graft-versus-host disease in patients undergoing haploidentical hematopoietic stem cell transplantation. However, different doses of antithymocyte globulin are administered in clinical practice. This study aimed to identify the optimal dose of antithymocyte globulin (thymoglobulin) in haploidentical hematopoietic stem cell transplantation. MATERIALS AND METHODS: We retrospectively analyzed the effects of 10 mg/kg (2.5 mg/kg on days -5 to -2) versus 7.5 mg/kg thymoglobulin (2.5 mg/kg on days -4 to -2) on patients receiving haploidentical hematopoietic stem cell transplantation with myeloablative conditioning. RESULTS: We observed significant differences between the 2 treatment groups with regard to cumulative incidence of grade II to IV acute graft-versus-host disease (15.3% vs 14.6%; P = .93) and 3-year chronic graft-versus-host disease (12.1% vs 14.3%; P = .77). The probabilities of 3-year overall survival (68.9% vs 73.5%; P = .98) and graft-versus-host disease-free/relapse-free survival (66.7% vs 53.1%; P = .14) were comparable between the 2 groups. However, there was a trend for lower cumulative incidence of hemorrhagic cystitis in the 7.5 mg/kg treatment group compared with the 10 mg/kg treatment group (40.7% vs 24.4%; P = .07). CONCLUSIONS: For patients who received a reduced dose of antithymocyte globulin (7.5 vs 10 mg/kg), there was no impaired effect on prophylaxis of graft-versus-host disease, with a trend of reduced incidence of hemorrhagic cystitis. Further studies of the 7.5 mg/kg dose of antithymocyte globulin are warranted for patients receiving haploidentical hematopoietic stem cell transplantation.

INTRODUCTION: The prevalence of hyperuricemia (HUA) is increasing worldwide; understanding of population attributable fraction of modifiable risk factors (MRFs) is important for disease prevention. Given the sparse evidence on how MRFs influence HUA in mainland China, we aimed to explore the effect of excess body weight and alcohol consumption and their population attributable fractions of HUA based on a national survey in mainland China. METHODS: Using data from the China National Health Survey which included 31,746 Han Chinese of 20-80 years of age from 10 provinces, we estimated the prevalence and MRFs (overweight/obesity and alcohol consumption) of HUA. HUA was defined as serum uric acid >417 µmol/L in men and >340 µmol/L in women. Restricted cubic-spline models were used to demonstrate the linear and nonlinear associations between exposures and HUA. The adjusted population attributable risk (PAR) was calculated to understand the relative importance of each MRF. RESULTS: The prevalence of HUA was 25.1% in men and 15.9% in women. The population fraction of HUA cases that could be avoided by weight loss was 20.6% (19.3%-22.0%) in men and 18.1% (17.1%-19.0%) in women. The PAR of alcohol consumption was 12.8% (8.5%-17.1%) in men. Participants from Southwest China (Yunnan) had the highest HUA prevalence (47.9% in men and 29.9% in women) but with lower PAR of MRFs, especially in men (16.7%). Subjects in North China had lower HUA prevalence but higher PAR of MRFs. Around 44.8% male HUA cases in Inner Mongolia (26.9% of HUA prevalence) and 37.7% cases in Heilongjiang (34.4% of HUA prevalence) were attributable to overweight/obesity and alcohol consumption. CONCLUSION: There are significant sex and geographic difference on PAR of HUA due to MRFs. More tailored prevention strategies are needed to prevent HUA through weight loss and reduction of alcohol consumption.
