ABSTRACT

Groundwater contamination have been widely concerned. To reliably conduct risk assessment, it is essential to accurately delineate the contaminant distribution and hydrogeological condition. Electrical resistivity tomography (ERT) has become a powerful tool because of its high sensitivity to hydrochemical parameters, as well as its advantages of non-invasiveness, spatial continuity, and cost-effectiveness. However, it is still difficult to integrate hydrochemical, hydrogeological, and ERT datasets for risk assessment. In this study, we develop a general framework for risk assessment by sequentially jointing hydrochemical, hydrogeological, and ERT surveys, while establishing petrophysical relationships among these data. This framework can be used in groundwater-contaminated site and help to delineate the distribution of contaminants. In this study, it was applied to a nitrogen-contaminated site where field ERT survey and borehole information provided valuable measurement data for validating the consistency of contamination and hydrogeological condition. Risk assessment was conducted based on the refined results by the establishment of relationship between conductivity and contaminants concentration with R 2 > 0.84 . The contamination source was identified and the transport direction was predicted with the good agreement of R 2 = 0.965 between simulated and observed groundwater head, which can help to propose measures for anti-seepage and monitoring. This study thus enhances the reliability of risk assessment and prediction through a thought-provoking innovation in the realm of groundwater environmental assessment.

ABSTRACT

We elucidate the flexoelectricity of semiconductors in the high strain gradient regime, the underlying mechanism of which is less understood. By using the generalized Bloch theorem, we uncover a strong flexoelectric-like effect in bent thinfilms of Si and Ge due to a high-strain-gradient-induced band gap closure. We show that an unusual type-II band alignment is formed between the compressed and elongated sides of the bent film. Therefore, upon the band gap closure, electrons transfer from the compressed side to the elongated side to reach the thermodynamic equilibrium, leading to a pronounced change of polarization along the film thickness dimension. The obtained transverse flexoelectric coefficients are unexpectedly high with a quadratic dependence on the film thickness. This new mechanism is extendable to other semiconductor materials with moderate energy gaps. Our findings have important implications for the future applications of flexoelectricity in semiconductor materials.

To prospectively compare the reproducibility of normal pancreas-normalized apparent diffusion coefficient (ADC) measurements for the normal pancreas and mean normalized ADCs at different pancreas anatomic locations.In total, 22 healthy volunteers underwent pancreatic 3.0-T magnetic resonance (MR) imaging, including axial diffusion-weighted (DW) imaging with 3 b values used (0, 400, and 800 s/mm) and with the respiratory-triggered (RT) technique. The mean ADCs from 3 regions of interest (ROIs) in 5 anatomic locations (head [H], body [B], and tail [T] of pancreas and spleen [S] and erector spinae muscles [M]) were calculated. The pancreas-normalized ADC was defined as the ratio of the ADC for the pancreas to the ADC for the spleen or erector spinae muscle. Reproducibility of ADCs and normalized ADCs was assessed by the Bland-Altman method. The ADC and normalized ADC data were analyzed by repeated-measures ANOVA.Mean ADC and normalized ADC values did not differ (P >.05) with repeated measurements at the different pancreas anatomic locations. Reproducibility of pancreas-normalized ADC measurements in each of the 3 pancreatic anatomic locations was better with the erector spinae muscle rather than the spleen used as a reference. Mean ADC and normalized ADC values significantly differed between the 3 pancreatic segments (H: 1.36 × 10 mm/s, B: 1.38 × 10 mm/s, T: 1.25 × 10 mm/s, P = .022; H/S: 1.75, B/S: 1.78, T/S: 1.59, P = .009; H/M: 0.91, B/M: 0.95, T/M: 0.85, P = .008). Mean ADC values and normalized ADC values showed a trend to decrease from the pancreatic head to tail.Our preliminary results suggest that normalized ADC measurements for the pancreas show good intra- and interobserver reproducibility, the erector spinae muscle is a better choice than the spleen for calculating normalized ADC values for the pancreas, and the normalized ADC values are lower for the pancreatic tail than other pancreatic segments.

ABSTRACT

OBJECTIVE: To establish a method for quick finding the absorption ingredients of Wuzhuyu decoction in order to select the index to control its quality. METHOD: The absorption of three concentration of Wuzhuyu decotion was investigated with the in vitro-everted intestinal sac model. The intestinal bag fluid of jejunum and ileum were collected in different time and the eight ingredients, which were evodiamine (Ev), rutaecarpine (Ru), limonin (Li), ginsenoside-Rb1, -Rg1, -Re (Rb1, Rg1, Re), isorhamnetin-3-O-beta-D-glucosyl(6''-->1'")-alpha-L-rhamnoside (Irs)and 6-gingerol (6-Gi), were detected by HPLC as the represent constituents in samples. RESULT: Eight ingredients except Ru in samples could be detected, but Ev could not be detected in high concentration samples. The ratios between absorption ingredients were different from in Wuzhuyu decotion. CONCLUSION: The in vitro-everted intestinal sac canc absorb the ingredients of Wuzhuyu decotion selectivity. Compare with the ileum, the jejunum can provide the more absorption information and faster, the best test time is 60-90 min.
