ABSTRACT

The temperature dependencies of the lower critical field H_{c1}(T) of several filled-skutterudite superconductors were investigated by local magnetization measurements. While LaOs_{4}As_{12} and PrRu_{4}As_{12} exhibit the H_{c1}(T) dependencies consistent with the single-band BCS prediction, for LaRu_{4}As_{12} (the superconducting temperature T_{c}=10.4 K) with a similar three-dimensional Fermi surface, we observe a sudden increase in H_{c1}(T) deep in a superconducting state below about 0.32T_{c}. Remarkably, a rapid rise of H_{c1}(T) at approximately the same reduced temperature 0.27T_{c} is also found for the heavy-fermion compound PrOs_{4}Sb_{12} (T_{c}≃1.78 K), in fair accord with the earlier macroscopic study. We attribute the unusual H_{c1}(T) dependencies of LaRu_{4}As_{12} and PrOs_{4}Sb_{12} to a kink structure in their superfluid densities due to different contributions from two nearly decoupled bands. Whereas LaRu_{4}As_{12} is established as a two-band isotropic s-wave superconductor, nonsaturating behavior of H_{c1}(T) is observed for PrOs_{4}Sb_{12}, indicative of an anisotropic structure of a smaller gap. For this superconductor with broken time-reversal symmetry, our findings suggest a superconducting state with multiple symmetries of the order parameters.

ABSTRACT

The compounds Sm2TGe6 (T = Pd, Pt,) were synthesized and characterized by x-ray diffraction, magnetization, electrical resistivity, thermoelectric power, and specific heat measurements performed in the temperature range 2-300 K. Additional resistivity and thermoelectric power measurements performed down to 0.35 K have not indicated superconductivity. These compounds crystallize in the orthorhombic structure of Ce2NiGe6 type and order antiferromagnetically at 23(1) and 30(1) K, respectively, showing localized magnetism of a Sm(3+) ion with a crystal field doublet level being the ground state. Below T(N), the electrical resistivity, the thermoelectric power, and the specific heat are dominated by electron-magnon scattering with an antiferromagnetic spin-wave spectrum typical of anisotropic antiferromagnetic systems. The thermoelectric power, S, achieves medium positive values at high temperatures, indicating a hole domination in electrical transport in both samples. At low temperatures, S changes its sign and becomes negative. At about 10 K a small negative maximum in S(T) occurs for both studied compounds. All the measurements carried out point to well-localized 4f-electrons in these two compounds, being strongly influenced by the crystal-electric-field effect with a significant admixture of two J-multiplets (5/2 and 7/2), typical for Sm-containing compounds.

ABSTRACT

104 laparoscopy were performed in infertile women. Apart from the routine evaluation of organs of pelvis small the particular attention was drown to the presence of stigma on the surface of corpus luteum. The sigma was present in 41 cases (39.42%). It was shown that the presence of the stigma allows to recognize the examined infertile women as on ovulating one. It was also stated that the evaluation of the presence of the stigma is an important method in diagnosis of ovulation, particularly in the so-called unexplained infertility.

ABSTRACT

In 104 infertile women the presence of the ovulation stigma detected during the laparoscopy was compared with the behaviour of the concentration of 17-beta estradiol and progesterone in the peritoneal fluid and in the blood. It was shown that the simultaneous and performed twice during one cycle measuring of the level of these hormones in peritoneal fluid and in blood is of a great value in the diagnosis of ovulation in infertile women--and is correlated with the presence of stigma. It was also shown that the lack of stigma and the lower values of concentrations of steroid hormones in peritoneal fluid and blood suggest the lack of ovulation in spite of the presence of corpus luteum.

ABSTRACT

Serum levels of total cholesterol (TC), HDL-cholesterol (HDL-C), triglycerides (TG), and 17 beta-estradiol (E2) as well as LDL1-cholesterol (LDL1-C) and atherogenic coefficient HDL-C/TC and HDL-C/LDL1-C were determined in 72 patients with uterine leiomyoma and 45 healthy women aged 34-54. The extent of surgery was found to have no significant effect on fat metabolism in the early postoperative period. Because of a possible exhaustion of body compensatory potential protecting against atherosclerosis, it was found necessary to measure fat metabolism parameters during the postoperative check-ups.

ABSTRACT

Serum levels of total cholesterol (TC), HDL-cholesterol (HDL-C), triglycerides (TG) and, 17 beta-estradiol (E2), as well as the values of LDL1-cholesterol (LDL1-C), HDL-C/TC, and HDL-C/LDL1-C were determined in 72 patients with uterine leiomyoma and 45 healthy women aged 34-54. The subjects were divided into three groups according to age and menstrual status (B1I-III). The patients were further subdivided into groups N and P, depending on the leiomyoma size, in order to assess the intensity of the pathogenic process. The values of cholesterol parameters (CT, HDL-C) showed a statistically significant increase in the youngest patients. The study also confirmed the opinion that hyperestrogenism could play a role in the etiopathogenesis of uterine leiomyoma.
