ABSTRACT

The coronavirus SARS-CoV-2 has a severe impact on global public health, and the emerging variants threaten the efficacy of the circulating vaccines. Here, we report that a single vaccination with a non-replicating chimpanzee adenovirus-based vaccine against the SARS-CoV-2 Delta variant (JS1-delta) elicits potent humoral, cellular and mucosal immunity in mice. Additionally, a single intranasal administration of JS1-delta provides effective protection against the Delta (B.1.617.2) variant challenge in mice. This study indicates that chimpanzee adenovirus type 3 (ChAd3) derived vector represents a promising platform for antiviral vaccine development against respiratory infections and JS1-delta is worth further investigation in human clinical trials. HighlightsO_LIA new chimpanzee adenoviral vaccine against the SARS-CoV-2 Delta variant was developed. C_LIO_LIThe vaccine elicited potent humoral, cellular and mucosal immunity in mice. C_LIO_LIThe vaccine protected mice from the Delta variant challenge. C_LI

ABSTRACT

OBJECTIVE@#To observe the differences in the clinical effects on cervical spondylosis with neck pain between the grain-moxibustion combined with acupuncture and simple acupuncture.@*METHODS@#Eighty-eight cervical spondylosis patients with neck pain who met the inclusion criteria were randomly divided into an observation group and a control group, 44 cases in each one. The patients in the control group were treated with conventional acupuncture, and grain-moxibustion was applied on the basis treatment of the control group in the observation group. The treatment was given 3 times a week, once every other day, 10 times as one course, and followed up after 6 months. Northwick Park neck pain inventory (NPQ) and the McGill pain questionnaire (MPQ) of the two groups before and after treatment and 6 months follow-up were observed. The clinical efficacy was compared.@*RESULTS@#After one course of treatment in both groups, the effective rate was 84.1% (37/44) in the control group and 86.4% (38/44) in the observation group; after 6 months follow-up, the effective rate was 79.5% (35/44) in the control group, and 81.8% (36/44) in the observation group. There was no significant difference in overall efficacy between the two groups (both >0.05). Compared before treatment, the NPQ scores and MPQ scores were decreased at the end of one course of treatment and after 6 months follow-up in the two groups (all 0.05), but the NPQ scores and MPQ scores in the observation group were significantly lower than those in the control group after 6 months follow-up (both <0.05).@*CONCLUSION@#The immediate efficacy of grain-moxibustion combined with acupuncture for cervical spondylosis with neck pain is similar to that of simple acupuncture, however, the long-term curative effect is better.

ABSTRACT

Objective To observe the clinical efficacy of yang-warming acupuncture therapy established by Zuo Changbo for the treatment of allergic rhinitis. Methods Sixty patients with allergic rhinitis were randomly divided into observation group and control group, 30 cases in each group. The observation group was given Zuo’s yang-warming acupuncture therapy and the control group was given conventional acupuncture therapy. Acupuncture was performed once every other day, and 10 times constituted one course of treatment. After treatment, the therapeutic effect was evaluated, and the symptom scores of nasal itching, stuffy nose, sneezing and nasal discharge as well as their visual analog scale ( VAS) scores were observed. Results ( 1) Total effective rate of the observation group was 93.3%, and that of the control group was 63.3%, there was significant difference between the two groups ( P<0.01). ( 2) After treatment, the scores of the four symptoms were decreased obviously ( P<0.05 or P<0.01) , and the decrease in the observation group was superior to that in the control group ( P<0.01) . ( 3) After treatment, the VAS scores in both groups were decreased ( P<0.01) , and the decrease was more obvious in the observation group (P<0.01). Conclusion The curative effect of yang-warming acupuncture therapy on allergic rhinitis is better than that of the routine acupuncture group.

ABSTRACT

TheStandardized Manipulations of Acupuncture and Moxibustion has been published and gradually standardized the clinical practice. It provided a solid foundation for the standardization of acupuncture and moxibustion therapeutic effects. It also provided powerful convictable effects on the accuracy and scientificity of acupuncture and moxibustion clinical practice, which gained well-acceptance from patients. In the treatment of certain diseases, acupuncture and moxibustion have become irreplaceable so that acupuncture and moxibustion can be strongly promoted both at home and abroad. There were some common problems occurred during the establishment of the national standardization onStandardized Manipulations of Oral and Lip Acupuncture. This article reviewed, analyzed and discussed questions occurred during the standardization establishment. The results showed that according to the principle of standardized production, a rigorous, scientific and reasonable text standard can be established. Advices or opinions gained during the process can be used as references for future standardization establishment. It was concluded that the standardization of acupuncture had great guidance in the acupuncture clinical application. It is an arduous and long-term mission to achieve and strengthen the position of international standardization of acupuncture and moxibustion. The government should increase the effort on investment and promotion of acupuncture and moxibustion standardization. Conversation and cooperation should also be strengthened with international communities to promote the standardization implementation.

ABSTRACT

Objective To evaluate the clinical effect of acupotomy therapy combined with acupuncture based on distal points selection for lumbar intervertebral disc protrusion ( LIDP) . Methods Sixty-eight LIDP patients were randomly divided into treatment group (N=33) and control group(N=35). The treatment group were given acupotomy therapy on the proximal positive response points in the lumbosacral region for relaxing the tendons, and acupuncture therapy based on distal points selection of Shugu, the Shu-stream point of the foot Taiyang bladder meridian, Zulinqi and Weizhong, the shu-stream point and the blood xi-cleft point of the foot Shaoyang gallbladder meridian respectively, twice a week, 2 weeks constituting one course of treatment. The control group was given conventional electroacupuncture therapy on Huatuo clip points, Dachangshu point, bilateral Shenshu points, Yinmen point, bilateral Zibian points and bilateral Yanglingquan points, and together with TDP radiation therapy, 5 times a week, 2 weeks constituting one course of treatment. The two groups received follow-up for one month. The low back pain scores of Japanese orthopaedic society ( JOA) and visual analog scores ( VAS) of pain were used for the evaluation of therapeutic effect after the treatment. Results ( 1) After treatment, the JOA scores were increased and VAS scores were decreased in both groups compared with those before treatment ( P< 0.05) , and the increase of JOA scores and the decrease of VAS in the treatment group were superior to those in the control group ( P< 0.05) . There was statistically significant difference of VAS scores between the two groups ( P < 0.05) during the follow-up period. ( 2) The total effective rate was 87.9%in the treatment group, and was 77.1%in the control group, the difference being significant (P<0.05) . Conclusion The acupotomy therapy combined with acupuncture based on distal points selection is effective and safe for lumbar intervertebral disc protrusion, which has the advantages of reliable long-term effect and low recurrence rate, showing good prospects for extensive clinical application.

ABSTRACT

Purpose: To observe the clinical efficacy eye acupuncture in the control of acute attack of deficiency-syndrome asthma in china alone. Method: Random cross-comparison grouping was used to observe the curative effects in eye acupuncture, body acupuncture and medication groups. Results and conclusion: Both clinical control rate and marked effective rate in the eye acupuncture were higher than those in the body acupuncture group (P< 0.01),but not significantly different from those in the medication group (P> 0.05); plasma cAMP content and cAMP/cGMP ratio rose and plasma cGMP content dropped in the patients after the treatment, indicating that eye acupuncture, like body acupuncture and medication, can increase sympathetic excitability and stimulate adrenocortical functions to remove bronchial spasm.

ABSTRACT

Objective: Patient-reported outcome (PRO) method was used to evaluate clinical effects of acupuncture for cervical spondysosis. Methods: With RCT method used, 162 cases were adopted, and 150 cases finished the whole course (treatment group: 76 cases, control group: 74 cases). Treatment group cases were treated by real-acupuncture while control group cases treated by sham-acupuncture. Northwick Park Pain Questionnaire(NPQ)was used as main outcome index, while SF-36 as secondary index. Both groups’ patients were evaluated before and after treatment course, plus one month and 3 months after the end of the treatment course. Results:Treatment group cases got lower NPQ Scores and higher mental health dimensions scores than the control group cases at any evaluation time-point. At the point of one month after the end of the treatment course, the treatment group cases got better social function scores than the control group cases. At the point of three months after the end of the treatment course, the treatment group cases got better body pain and energy scores than the control group cases. Multiple regression analysis showed that three dimensions of SF-36 (social function scores body pain and energy scores) had close relationship with NPQ scores. Conclusion: Acupuncture had satisfactory long-term effect for cervical spondylosis.
