ABSTRACT

Systemic diseases--like diabetes mellitus--are able to injure the local and common resistance of an organism. Therefore we must expect a more intensive and severer progress of gingivitis and periodontitis in diabetic patients in comparison with a non-diabetic control-group. On the Gondar College of Medical Sciences in Northwest-Ethiopia are investigated 77 Insulin-obliged diabetics and 312 persons for control by means of the plaque-Index, the Oral-Hygiene-Index simplified. The DMF/T-Index and the Gingivitis-respectively Periodontal-Disease-Index for evaluation of the oral health situation. The comparison shows that the diabetic group has a moderate higher Plaque-pictures of gingivitis or periodontitis. This confirms our opinion that the diabetes mellitus is a risk-factor for the development of periodontal diseases. Therefore patients with diabetes mellitus should perform a very intensive care for mouth-hygiene.

ABSTRACT

The evidence on the clinical relevance of the behaviour of the R-amplitude under load for the non-invasive diagnosis of the chronic ischaemic heart disease is contradictory in literature. One of the causes for the variable estimation is possibly to be found in the different localization of the lead electrodes. With the help of the ECG mapping using 30 electrodes at the anterior thoracic wall 15 males were examined with typical syndrome of angina pectoris and a clearly pathological reaction of the ST-distance in a preceding usual bicycle ergometry. The ECG mapping was carried out before, during and after an ergometer load in lying position with 50 Watt. The most frequent pathological reactions of the R-amplitude were found below the chest wall electrodes V4, V5 and V6 after Wilson. The estimation of the valency of this first observation must be performed in further examinations.

ABSTRACT

The evidence of the pentagastrin rapid test inaugurated by Johnston and Jepson in contrast to the usual analysis of the gastric secretion (DAB 7 GDR) was controlled on altogether 256 patients. Of them 121 patients were examined according to the well-known method and 135 patients with the shortened pentagastrin test. The same efficiency could be verified for the pentagastrin rapid test. The stimulated acid secretion may be sufficiently exactly established with the help of this test for the daily practice and may be recommended for the use in the outpatient practice. The limits of the normal values established up to the existence of a sufficiently large number of test persons, a norm region of 3-25 mmol/h should be taken as a basis.

ABSTRACT

The distribution of the interval of the heart beat of 93 test persons of the 4 groups normal group, group with labile essential hypertension, group with apparantly vegetatively conditioned heart pain and group with angina pectoris syndrome in coronary sclerosis may be described with the help of log normal distributions. In the vegetative group a dependence of the distribution parameters was proved. The results of a linear discriminance analysis for the vegetative group and the group with coronary sclerosis as well as the unequivocal age dependence of sigma at first do not allow a differentiation significant for practice according to the results got up to now. The different age structure might be regarded as cause in the two groups, so that further investigations are necessary.
