ABSTRACT
A case of team-treated thrombosed popliteal artery caused by blunt limb trauma with open tibia fracture is presented. Thrombosed artery was treated by endovascular pulse-spray method using Angiomed catheter. Implementation of this method allowed us to dissolve thrombus and to retrieve arterial circulation in the limb. In our opinion this procedure was an alternative for traditional surgery. After revascularisation of the limb orthopedic operation on fractured bones was performed using Zespol technique.

Fourty children were treated for brain abscess in the period 1983-1988 at the Neurosurgery Department, Children's Health Centre, Warsaw. Their age was from 4 weeks to 16 years. In 38 cases the treatment was surgical, followed by antibiotic therapy, in 2 cases only antibiotics were given. In 7 cases shunts were implanted for treatment of hydrocephalus developed in infants. Two patients died during the treatment. Problems encountered in various methods of brain abscess treatment are discussed.

In the years 1980-1987 the number of children aged from 11 months to 15 years treated for cerebellar astrocytoma was 113, the mean age was 5.4 years. Shunt insertion preceding the main surgical treatment was done in 10 cases (9%). After the operation shunt was necessary in 15 cases, that is 15% of cases not undergoing shunt insertion before the operation. In all, shunting was necessary in 22% of patients with cerebellar astrocytoma. In the conclusions the authors suggest indications to shunting in various age groups in cases of cerebellar astrocytoma.
