ABSTRACT

The progressive scaling in semiconductor technology allows for advanced miniaturization of intelligent systems like implantable biosensors for low-molecular weight analytes. A most relevant application would be the monitoring of glucose in diabetic patients, since no commercial solution is available yet for the continuous and drift-free monitoring of blood sugar levels. We report on a biosensor chip that operates via the binding competition of glucose and dextran to concanavalin A. The sensor is prepared as a fully embedded micro-electromechanical system and operates at GHz frequencies. Glucose concentrations derive from the assay viscosity as determined by the deflection of a 50 nm TiN actuator beam excited by quasi-electrostatic attraction. The GHz detection scheme does not rely on the resonant oscillation of the actuator and safely operates in fluidic environments. This property favorably combines with additional characteristics-(i) measurement times of less than a second, (ii) usage of biocompatible TiN for bio-milieu exposed parts, and (iii) small volume of less than 1 mm3-to qualify the sensor chip as key component in a continuous glucose monitor for the interstitial tissue.

ABSTRACT

We present a case of a triplet with HELLP-Syndromin the 31st gestation week. In ultrasound one of the fetuses was to small for gestational age and one of them showed an zero-flow in Doppler ultrasound. We decided to deliver by Caesarean section in the 31st gestation week. Growth-retardiation was found in two infants. One of them had a single umbilical artery in addition.

ABSTRACT

ABSTRACT

Using a retrospective investigation the authors demonstrate the advantage of the modified Sarafoff-suture (a one layer suture of the myometrium) in comparison with the two-layer suture. The results shows a lower rate of febrile courses, less postoperative complications and a shorter hospital stay. The first clinical experiences showed less scar complications in the courses of vaginal delivery in patients with a previous caesarean section. Therefore, the authors advise the modified Sarafoff-suture for wound closure in caesarean section.

ABSTRACT

The amplitudes of urethral vascular pulsations in pregnant women, continent and urinary stress incontinent women were compared with each other. Significant differences have been found in the chi 2-Test. In pregnant women the mean pulsation amplitude was 1.81 kPa, in continent women it was 1.13 kPa and in urinary stress incontinent women 0.46 kPa. Low or missing urethral vascular phenomena seem to be connected with urinary stress incontinence. That is why the amplitude of urethral pulsation should be taken into consideration in the urodynamic investigation of urinary stress incontinence.

ABSTRACT

The rectal-digital fetal stimulation test (FST) is outlined. The indications of FST are the same as for the fetal scalp, blood sampling (FBA). Our clinical experiences suggested, that the fetal scalp blood sampling rate may be reduced by 50% using FST. The main advantage of the FST is that it can be repeated easily without any increased infection risk.

ABSTRACT

The intrauterine pressure was determined by means of endoradiosonde in 42 pregnant women before induced abortion. It was measured the tonus and after stimulation with oxytocin the liminal value the basic tonus and the highest increase of pressure. The values of pressure were higher after artificial rupture of the amnion than before. Telemetering of intrauterine pressure is an advantageous method.
